We stayed there as a group and we took over the whole hotel! Lovely location and the staff service was superb. food good They have lots of activities on site including a bowling green, tennis courts, mountain hikes and horse riding. they even brought in a guitarist so that we could party on a Friday night!

Room Tip: Go for Swiss Village for the views

In September this was very quiet. The room we stayed it was full of heavy old fashioned furniture and there was a lot of road noise. The tin roof loses heat rapidly so it was necessary to use the underfloor heating, that could be felt more in some places than others. Bath had a shower fitting over it, we were warned that hot water took a long time to arrive. The yellowish tiles looked so offputting we didn't wish to use the shower although they wree clean apart from some dirty grouting. Comfortable bed.

I was concerned that being in the middle of nowhere food prices would be inflated. In fact they were comparable to other South African restaurants and food was acceptable, although we had better meals elsewhere. As food is cooked to order it does take a while to arrive. Breakfast was a buffet with a choice of hot dishes cooked to order. Good bread.

Wifi was chargeable so we didn't use it.

Good walks, not as well signposted as their maps suggest. If you are lucky you may see the babboons. Bowling green, tennis courts, squash courts. Rides cost 150R and are at 10 or 2, donkey cart for children 10R at 10a.m only. Library with games - sign on door said the room was for adults only. Snooker table.

Thank you for staying at Eight Bells Mountain Inn and for taking the time to review us.
As an eighty- five year old country hotel we decided not to decorate our rooms in a modern style but rather retain the Cape Cottage style furniture that fits in well with our location in the Southern Cape mountains. To enhance our environmental status we still use traditional boilers for our hot water needs burning the invading Black Wattle trees that are unfortunately taking over many indigenous forest areas in this region.
It is a pity that the client did not check with our counter during their stay as our qualified staff would have been able t o immediately answer any questions that they may have had regarding the facilities on offer like the free wifi and rules regarding the bar and adult lounge areas.
We appreciate all feedback and will certainly endeavour to make your next Eight Bells experience an even better one. Thank you once again for visiting our unique establishment.

Well what can I say....This is our 3rd stay, 5 days at a time. This must be the best rest ever! The tranquility, views and the sound of the birds is amazing. The food is very good, and the staff are so pleasant, helpful and it is like coming home to family, because they remember you, they will go out of their way to accommodate you whatever your needs. We stayed in the Swiss Village Chalets, which is the best because its warm- underfloor heating, cozy and comfortable. We loved it and will definitely be back. Thanks to all for a most pleasant stay.

Room Tip: The Chalets are great because its not a four walled room, makes all the difference!!!!

A bunch of us enjoyed a relaxing two night stay. Service was excellent, staff friendly and the food abundant and tasty. A wide range of accommodation is offered in different clusters. The Swiss Village chalets were comfortable and well furnished with lovely views over a valley towards the mountains. Underfloor heating and plenty of blankets kept the winter chills at bay and fire places in some of the public rooms were welcome. The spacious gardens and grounds are well maintained and there are short walks and trails on the property.

Room Tip: If you prefer a shower you need to specify this when making a reservation as not all rooms have one.

We had stayed here 30 years ago to find that Eight Bells still has its country charm, but most of all that it has been upgraded to four star accommodation. This is obviously seen in the very, very friendly management and staff as well as the well-kept accommodation. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. We stayed in a log cabin facing the mountain. What a wonderful surprise to see such a variety of birds and fynbos. Well done to Eight Bells! We will be back!

We went to Eight Bells for 2 nights last week. Were we surprised?. Great staff, very obliging, helpful and friendly. Food was good value and pleasant. Altogether a very good experience. Well recommended. Thank you to the owners for running a "good ship" and to all the staff!

Room Tip: Suggest mesh at the open windows because of monkeys. Stay in log cabins because of road noise.

Thank you so much for your positive review of our property. I am justly proud of our long-serving staff and even more so as I was away at Indaba in Durban during your stay. It is heartening to hear that everything was spot on during my absence, but then again I knew it would be.
The monkeys are a problem from time to time but as they lived here in the mountains before we came here, we have to accept the occasional mishap and live with it. Thank you once again for staying with us and we look forward to your next visit.

We were searching for somewhere to stay around George/Mossel Bay area on our 6 week trip touring around in South Africa. We found Eight Bells Mountain Inn on the internet and it sounded perfect. We booked to stay, and we had 2 wonderful nights there.
We stayed in one of the log cabins which had wonderful views on the valley and mountains. It was very comfortable with a big bed and all we needed..
The meals were excellent with very good service. We sat out on the terrace to eat while the sun was setting. All the staff made us feel so welcome - I think many had been there a long time. We loved the complimentary tea and coffee served at mid morning and again at 4pm.
We spent some time by the pool and also went on some lovely country walks and it was a truly magical stay.
Unfortunately I left a blouse in our room by mistake and realized a week later. It had been handed in by the houseeping staff and was waiting for me when we were able to pick it up at a later date. Thank you for all the good service and we shall certainly be back.
