A MUST do for ALL, especially South Africans! We have the most beautiful land in the world. This was a 5-star treat! It was like our 2nd honeymoon.....peaceful but yet adventurous. The Safari game Drive was the highlight for me! Thank you, Nyaru Game Lodge. See you soon :) P.Turner

What a great find and totally unanticipated as well. We were driving the garden route and thought we'd just stay in Mossel Bay when we came upon Nyaru Game Lodge on TripAdvisor. We hadn't planned to do anything 'safari' or 'game park' on this trip (more an eating and massage vacation) but we thought 'why not?'

It was a great decision because it was such an excellent and easy experience. The game lodge is just a short drive outside of Mossel Bay but feels a million miles away from civilization. We made the booking directly online via email with Ruan (the son that runs the estate) and arrived the next day. We were curious about Ruan's email where he warned us that if we crossed paths with their local rino "Fabian" not to toot the horn and just call him if he doesn't yield the road! We were looking forward to it already!

The lodge is on a large estate with the main campus being a large hut which comprises the reception and eating areas. Around the 'hut' there are about a dozen cottages with their own facilities - they are cosy and great. There are all the modern amenities you'd want, including running water and kitchen - so no worries there. Facilities were clean and really well maintained.

Highlight of course were the excursions. First day at 1600 we did a quad bike tour of the reserve and got to see giraffes and the local rino up close. Josephatt was our local guide and he was patient, so knowledgeable and a real asset to the whole operation. The day after we went on a 4x4 tour of the reserve seeing different animals but on pretty much the same trek. Fabian, the rino, is definitely the celebrity of the game park but no lions or tigers so if you're looking for those, this is not the park for you. What you'll get a is a calm, intimate experience and a chance to tastefully see some African animals up close.

Breakfast was great and so were the staff. It was a great one night and two day stay.I'd definitely return. Thanks to Ruan and his mom!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nyaru. Met the most friendly hosts and staff and was made to feel welcome from the start. The best experience was driving the quad bikes into the reserve , getting close to the giraffes , wildebees, zebra,s , ostriches , impala,s and even better to be guided by Josphat when faced with the most amazing animal " the beautiful White Rhino"
who seemed unfazed by us glaring at him. We loved the tranquility and atmosphere of this place and will definitely be recommending it to others . Good food together with good people have produced a good recipe for us to visit Nyaru again in the near future!!

Room Tip: First timer , we had a fantastic view from our room , at the far end of the Villae overlooking the r...

100% recommend this lodge. The staff is fantastic - truly make you feel right at home. I was traveling by myself and really felt welcomed and not at all isolated as you sometimes can at group-centric lodges like this. The chalets are gorgeously appointed with a combination of modern comforts and local crafts. The meals - another great value - were delicious and generously portioned. Finally, the quad safari was a blast. I could have stayed out there all day following the family of giraffes, zebras, rhino, etc. This would be a wonderful place to take a family or for a romantic weekend. I hope to return soon and share this place with loved ones!

We had a great time at the Nyaru lodge. Our room was adorable, and had a real African feel. We went on a game drive and we were able to see all sorts of animals, including giraffes, zebras, and a rhino. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and even took pictures for us. The food was awesome. We sat outside by the fire for each meal. I was even greeted by the large resident tortoise at breakfast one morning. We did the picnic at the gazebo, which they arranged for us. It was very romantic and we were able to see the animals grazing in the distance. It was the first two nights of our honeymoon, and it was an unforgettable experience! We really hope to visit this place again for an anniversary in the near future!

What an amazing place these guys have built.....we reached here after our Cape Town and Knysna stays and found this to be the best place. We got an upgrade from the ever courteous Ruan and my kids and mother were accommodated in a Chalet bigger than what we had booked-a nice gesture! We really loved the quiet and remote location. The Chalets were excellent and very well furnished and we found every thing catered for giving us a luxurious feel. The main building looks amazing and provides a good view of the game from the restaurant. It is great to have breakfast with birds trying to build a nest just few meters from your table or Fabian or antelopes grazing just 50 meters from you. The pool is small but neat and clean. The better part of the pool is not the water but the hammocks on the trees around the pool. We enjoyed the birds jumping around us while in those hammocks. The food was great on the first night followed by even better breakfast. Ruan is a perfect host suitably complemented by her mother. It amazes one to know that they are the owners of the property and yet play the part of great hosts perfectly. The staff helped us out in preparing a meal on the next evening by ourselves on the Braai (which is provided for at every Chalet). My kids just loved the experience. Our encounter with the wild was limited to interactions with Fabian and a few antelopes. In fact Fabian, added to the adventure by obstructing our way out on the check out. Ruan managed to move the great beast to a side, although we were delayed for our departure but all of us enjoyed the experience of negotiating Fabian around the narrow exit route. Overall, an exceptional experience and we wished we had a longer stay. Looking forward to staying once again at Nyaru.

Firstly, make sure you confirm the electronic entry code. We'd been given ours months in advance (I like to get things organised well ahead) but unfortunately it was changed, for security reason, in the interim. This had us standing outside wondering if we'd have to drive back to Mossel Bay to get phone coverage. Fortunately one of the employees was leaving at this point so no detour necessary. Turns out there's phone coverage right there once we turned the mobile on to check.

The main property is a huge rondavel which serves as reception, bar and dining room. Great evening meal with game meat options.

The rooms are small cottages and they too were spacious. The owner took us on a game drive (extra$$) around her 2000 acre (I think) property to see the various giraffes, zebra, bontebok (wot dat?), wildebeast etc. The highlight for my son (we were the only guests at the time) was feeding Fabian, the resident rhino. How cool is that for a young kid?

The owner will also take you for a helicopter trip around Mossel Bay but I try to steer clear of helicopters and motorbikes.

A well-run, friendly and professional outfit. Wish we'd had more time.
