“A Museum I Like”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The one place we don't have any interest in visiting when we go places is a museum. But we made an exception and visited Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex because it was right next door to our accommodation in Mossel Bay. And it was actually fun and informative. I like the easy-to-explore lay-out of the museum. And small enough to go through quickly but still get enough information about those bygone days when adventurous European explorers (and death-wishers, considering what their "ocean liners" are made of then) reached the South African shores. I think one should not miss this attraction when visiting Mossel Bay.

“Amazing museum complex in Mossel Bay”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

This is a must stop for visitors on the Garden Route. A replica of the caravelle used by Bartolomeu Dias can be viewed and one can board the vessel. It is amazing how the Portuguese explorers circumnavigated the globe in such a small vessel. One will appreciate the courage that these people had, when the explored the world. No technology, just determination and courage. The complex is very educational to bot adults and children. The post office tree ( first post office in South Africa), can also be viewed.

“Not worth the visit”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Very outdated museum. Did not like the fact that the first picture I had to see was that of Mr P.W. Botha. it left a very bad taste in my mouth and brought back bad memories of my youth in the South African army. The displays are very outdated and faded. I would not return.

“Very Interesting”

Well worth visiting the Dias museum. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to read everything at the museum. Will definitely be back when we have more time to spend at the museum.
