“A Beacon in the night”

Cape St Blaize Lighthouse
Ranked #6 of 28 things to do in Mossel Bay
Attraction details
Reviewed 18 April 2013

The Cape St Blaize Lighthouse has been a beacon to navigators since 1864. It is open Monday - Friday to the public from 10h00 - 15h00. It is closed over the weekends and public holidays. It is only one of two manned lighthouses on the South African coast today.

Be prepared to climb ladders - but well worth it for the view from the top. Need to be of average fitness.

People, you can't find more amaising ocean view, especially during a stormy and sunny weather. Please take care of climbing on the rock before high tide - the water is coming very quick and closed to the broadway. I saw one cross of dead on that palce.

It's a light house perched high on the bluff overlooking a beautifu expanse of ocean. The sea is extremely rough here with waves crashing along the coast 2h hours a day. There are only 2 variants of wave. Big ones and BIGGER ones! Actually, the lighthouse is okay, not really much when compared to some of the ones in the states ( I like the Kilauea Lighthouse on Kauai ) but the caves below it are interesting to see. There are placards with information about the people, ocean and the animals around the area. It's worth the hike to see it.

It's nice because from there you really feel the power of the ocean.
We only found 2 unpleasant things:
- foam in the ocen water (still do not what it's, but it didn't seem natural foam)
.- people feeding the dassies: an awful show, please please do not do it: they are animals not toys!
