“A great place to stay!!!”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

I stayed here during some of my stay in Moshi recently while I was doing some volunteer work. The staff became like family, especially Jessica, the daughter of the owner/manager. The food was GREAT...I SO enjoyed the local Tanzanian food prepared by the wonderful chef. The hostel is clean, has beautiful, well manicured grounds and is quite and peaceful. It was great to go "home" each day to just relax after working with the kids in a local preschool or tooling around in Moshi town, talk with the staff or other guests. Will definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone else.

Room Tip: Would suggest someone ask for a room down the hall a bit. My room was very close to the dining room...

I stayed here during the weekend of the very popular Marathon event and had been told that it would be difficult to find any accommodation. I contacted Green Hostel just the day before the event by phone and was assured that there would be a room. There seemed to be some discrepancy between the website prices, the prices quoted on Hostel Bookers and the prices quoted at the hotel so I would recommend that you confirm what the actual rate will be before arriving. There were plenty of rooms available and it really was very conveniently placed for anyone running or supporting runners in the Marathon - about a 10 minute stroll to the stadium (start and finish point). The hostel is in a very pleasant location about a 15 minute stroll from the town and down a very quiet cul de sac. Moshi town centre is dominated by a mosque and having stayed in numerous places in the town I can definitely say that this was by far the quietest and I had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was basic but adequate and was ready in time to get to the start of the Marathon (soon after 5am - thanks very much to the management). The owners were friendly and quite welcoming. The room was very basic but clean and there was an en suite bathroom. The only criticism I would have is that for 2 people it seemed quite pricey for what it was because the price is per person and not per room. I have stayed in other places with more character and appeal for the same price, but for the Marathon, it was ideal and I would book again next year.

I went to stay at Green Hostels in September, I was there on and off for 5 weeks. I hadn't intended on staying so long but the mix of Mary's fantastic cooking, the huge outdoor pool 5 minutes away, the peaceful area just 10 minutes from restaurants and bars, and the family I found myself returning back every time I went off on an excursion.
I've now been traveling for 7 months and what you get at this place is very different from your regular offering. You get genuine people, giving you genuine advice about safari's, treking, local sights, good markets etc..
They are a very special family who will bend over backwards to make your stay a special one. They will make you part of the family and give you an unforgettable experience in Tanzania.

We stayed here since it was only a 5-10 minute walk from the start and finish of the Kilimanjaro marathon.

It was of course full but a friend of ours needed a room so the 3 of us just squeezed ourselves in a 2-person bedroom and was fine. The beds, though twin-sized, are relatively wide and we were able to fit 2 people in one bed and the 3rd person on the other bed comfortably.

It is a 10 minute walk to the center of Moshi town and it's close to the Keys hotel and Shanty Town (very very safe area. We nicknamed the Shanty Town as the Beverly Hills of Moshi.)

Overall a good stay.

About 10 mins from YMCA, about 15 mins from Moshi central bus station. Very friendly welcome by staff and I had a nice conversation with the owner.

The room was clean with a private bathroom. Please note that (at least for my room) there were only mosquito nets above the room door where you would normally expect a glass window, probably for ventilation purposes, so it might be a bit noisy, but I didn't mind. Too bad I could only stay one night. Would gladly stay here again on a future visit to Moshi.
