“Disappointed”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Maybe we expected too much from this place. The website makes it look amazing. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed.

The room was OK, with decent hot water. It was a little small but it will do. The disappointment was more in the atmosphere. As the only non-German speaking guests it got a little lonely and the staff didn't help.

The manager was fine and the gate guard excellent, but the other staff seemed to specialise in shouting at each other outside our room early in the morning, hogging the TV, hogging the WiFi (only 5 people can connect at a time) and giving us surly glaces when we said no to their food (expensive and not great).

The trouble with this is that they are so far out of town that you end up spending quite a bit a time there.

Overall, it's a fairly basic guest house, but that's about it.

I cant recommend this place enough. After getting a full day of being hassled in Moshi to buy painting and carvings, its the perfect place to head back to to chill out. The room we had came with a en suite bathroom, which we didn't expect at all, and the beds are comfortable with a mosquito net.
The place has excellent morning views of Kilimanjaro, while you can sit and have a breakfast of tea/coffee, muesli, eggs etc. The price of the accommodation is wonderful value, as are the meals they provide (at an extra charge), they also provide free transport into moshi in the mornings (or its only a 30 minute walk)
I would definitely recommend this place, it has a wonderful atmosphere while being quiet and peaceful. The staff are also very helpful in planning excursions and arranging transport. 10/10 !!

Good value place to stay. The accommodation was comfortable, well laid out with the rooms in different annexes off of the courtyard. There were tables to order food and drink or catch the sun in the courtyard which made for a good social area to chat with other visitors about their excursions and exchange advice. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The toilets and showers were underpar, but private which is not always the case for places of the same rates. Our toilet flushed only once every 20 minutes or so and warm water from our shower was not reliable.

The location was perfect, a 20 minute walk from Moshi, so away from the noise of the town. A regular shuttle was available if you didn't want to walk. Food was tasty, especially the pancakes. However, they were often out of things on the menu, but happy to make suggestions/ accommodations. As well, the food was slow (on average, took 45 minutes for museli and coffee or scrambled eggs or veggie curry). All of the staff were warm and friendly. Miriam, especially was a gem to speak to and to gather local advice. For the money, this place was as expected.

This is the best hostel you will find in Moshi. Miriam and Julius make this property completely enjoyable. The food is wonderful. I would much rather stay outside of the city at Twiga, than in the town with the loud traffic noises. The local rooster provided a little too much wake up call along with some dogs in the area, but I found if you turned on the ceiling fan and closed the windows I could have slept all day. What fun to sit in the courtyard and visit with people from around the world.

Room Tip: The rooms on the back side of the property away from the courtyard are the quietest. Kibo Hut, the n...

Absolutely great value, good food, friendly staff and high standards of cleanliness. Absolutely no complaints. An airport shuttle is available at good value, as are shuttles to moshi town and the surrounding area.

Would thoroughly recommend for anyone wanting a great value, friendly atmosphere.

Honestly, we didn't expect luxury so acommodation was better then we expected. Some were complaining for slow food service, but in time we all learned in Africa everything is pole pole (slowly). Stuff was friendly and very helpfull.

A basic hostel, not expensive and very friendly people, willing to help and flexible about mealtimes. I have visited twice and some of the staff have been the same. Welcomed the quiet residential area and the regular minibus service into Moshi town centre.

Room Tip: Choose one with AC but realise that the electricity in Tanzania can be erratic. Don't judge by...
