“A new look Honey Badger”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

Having stayed at Honey Badger Lodge before, I was looking forward to my return trip - and what a surprise. Jenny & Joey Renju have really up graded their place. They now have a lovely lounge area - great for playing games, relaxing or watching Wimbledon on their TV screen at the bar. (perfect time to sample their great cocktails - only way to watch Wimbledon!) Also the food is amazing now - wonderful new menu. Lots to chose from and great variety - their lunch menu is particularly good and of course they still have their fab pizza's. The pool was looking wonderful and such a lovely place to sit and chill. Whilst there we went on a safari to a nearby tented lodge in West Kilimanjaro - George was our driver/guide and we really had a great time. Also did the usual Daladala trip into Moshi - a short and interesting ride, which really gives you the feel of the country and if you are lucky Kilimanjaro will peep out for you to see. You don't have to do the Dala Dala a taxi can do the trip in 15 mins. but the dala dala has great entertainment value.
Thank you to all the staff at Honey Badger and to Jenny & Joey, for making my return trip so memorable and congratulations on the renovations - I just LOVE your place !!!

Room Tip: All rooms are individual and have lovely aspects and are set in beautiful gardens

This is the second time I have had a group stay here. This time I brought 17 people. We stayed here for 7 nights over a period of 10 days. What I like about Honey Badger is that not only is the setting and quality of the lodge great value for money, the facility is clean, beautiful, but the staff are also incredibly friendly and remember returning guests as well. They remembered my daughter's name.
I only had to make one call and Honey Badger booked my lodge stay, safari, tours, transfers and meals. The meals were great. There is a mixture of local and Western food available including pizza and burgers.
Our kids used the pool which was extremely clean. If you get up early (around 7am) you can spot monkeys close to the pool.
They even helped us arrange a birthday cake for one of the members of our team as well as a short notice tour to a close by waterfall when our plans fell through for the day.
I highly recommend Honey Badger Lodge.

Room Tip: Some rooms are listed as double, but we were able to sleep 2 adults and 2 kids. It had a double bed...

Honey Badger Lodge

I have enjoyed this wonderful lodge for a week now, and thankfully have a week remaining. I already know that I will be sad to leave. I always like to discover the more rustic, less touristy places to stay. With all my travelling, I think Honey Badger has been my greatest find. I love everything about the place & in particular, the owners concept for running a successful business.

It is a family run business & such care has been taken to every detail.. The employees go through annual training & it shows. They are professional, courteous, gracious & so very helpful. The most appealing concept for me is that the lodge bases it's operation on sustainability, thus everything is solar. They are involved with & totally committed to their community with food, proceeds & encouraging volunteerism. They advertise themselves as "the community conscious tourist option" - a model that hopefully will be adopted by other resorts. I am now volunteering in a school KYGN Kilimanjaro Young Girls in Need, through their encouragement.
As if I wasn't happy enough with this lodge, the amazing food has been an added bonus. They have a wonderful pool & delightful, well tended gardens.
I wouldn't hesitate to return or highly recommend this place to anyone. It is located about 5 miles out of Moshi & at first I was a little disappointed with the location but as I stepped into the compound, I knew instantly that I had scored a winner! If you are coming to Moshi, don't stay anywhere else!

Our staff have asked after you on more than one occasion, its nice when people are here for some time and can really get to know us and the place and you very quickly became part of the Honey Badger Family. We hope all is well with you at home and we also hope that one day we can welcome you back again. Finally thank you for your kind words on our training, this is something that is growing in strength year by year and we enjoy taking time to invest in our fantastic team.

i stayed here for a week in May with my girlfriend and we also did a safari through the lodge. Our stay with Honey Badger and the trip was definitely one of the best experiences we've had. First impressions when we arrived were great, the staff were genuinely friendly, gave us some fresh juice while we were checking in and then showed us to our rooms. The rooms were nicely decorated you really felt like you were in Africa, it was spacious and the bed was really comfortable. They also have their own solar grid which was great for when the power went out as we could still have the lights on at night.

Honey Badger is really nice as you feel like you're remote but you're only a stone’s throw (8 minute taxi ride) from town if you want to explore or do anything. There's a really nice vibe in Honey Badger where the atmosphere is nice a chilled with pool, lounge and bar near each other but the staff are really friendly and professional.

I think the biggest highlight for us in Honey Badger was the food. We went into town a few times but we still felt that the best value and quality was in Honey Badger itself. They've a really diverse menu with Tanzanian fusion (try the pumpkin mandazi you won't regret it) and if you want something a little closer to home they've homemade pizzas from their pizza oven! (which I'm still craving). We worked our way through most of the menu and there wasn't one thing that didn't hit the spot. The desserts were also really good quality - we found a lot of the desserts in town were quite dry but Honey Badger had it perfect.

The safari was one of the best things I've done from start to finish. You could tell that Honey Badger and Milestone really thought through the whole thing, they were really quick with responses and so helpful with all our questions before we booked. The trip itself was mind blowing we went to 3 different parks and saw everything that we wanted to see. Our guides were so knowledgeable about the animals and history, incredibly warm and friendly and funny too! We also have no idea how our chef was able to cook such good food with so little equipment in the middle of Serengeti. The animals, chats and food made it a trip to remember for life. We definitely ended our trip on a high so thank you Honey Badger!

Honey badger is located in a beautiful village away from all the hustle and bustle of Moshi town. It's just a short and inexpensive taxi ride to Moshi town where you can enjoy some lovely cafes and restaurants but after eating and relaxing in the wonderful Honey Badger there is no reason to leave the grounds at all! The pool area is exceptional, the staff are friendly and their new menu is simply to die for!!! The new menu cleverly fuses local swahili cuisine with other typically 'western' ingredients. It is clear that much thought has been put into the new menu with home-made breads, super salad combinations and don't even get me started on the chocolate fondant - it was nothing short of heavenly! And if that all doesn't tickle your fancy then there is always the amazing Pizzas!

The facilities are great complete with internet and a solar power back-up for when the government power decides it has had enough! The pool area is relaxing and chilled complete with banana trees and monkeys! They have recently just built on a new lounge area too which is a great place to chill with a book or a cocktail. The staff are attentive, friendly and really welcoming.

Planning a safari with Honey Badger was great too - they really show attention to detail, great customer service and bundles of passion. If you are looking for a tour company who are reliable and professional then I couldn't recommend Honey Badger more.

In a nutshell...this place rocks! It's clear that management strive for magnificence rather than mediocrity. It's clear that this lodge really does care about their community and being sustainable - they support a number of community projects and run a number of initiatives to save energy and to prevent waste. Overall, this lodge is ahead of the game - they truly care about all their customers but also about their staff and local community...and that, is really really cool! Thank you for such a great stay guys and keep up the excellent work!

Honey Badger was AMAZING. Wonderful staff, beautiful grounds, safe and comfortable. Internet access. The food is outstanding.

They also arranged our climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We had two great guides Nikko and David with Milestone, who are hired regularly by Honey Badger. (Ask for them, they're THE BEST.) They have an almost 100% success rate--in all the hundreds of times they've been up the mountain they've only had 2 people didn't go all the way to the peak, which is an incredible record, so they will get you to the top! They met us at Honey Badger the day before for orientation and went through everything with us. We had a cook and 13 porters for 3 of us. Food was amazing. We even had a dining tent with a table and stools.

Also Honey Badger offers cheap and amazing massages by Tracey. She even took us around town when we got back.
