thank you for your review.
We hope you settled again after your adventures in Tanzania.
Thanks for all your warm words about our backpackers. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us that much. Also a big thanks for recommending us to your friends, this means a lot to us.
Please come back to visit at some point.
We would enjoy having you here again!
Me and my friends stayed there only for one night, here is what I can tell you:
People there are very helpful (e.g. providing you with information or organizing transport) and friendly. We were welcomed warmly!
The rooms are clean and nice. There is a big living room where you can hang out and meet other backpackers, also you can use the roomy kitchen for preparing your own food!
If you walk/drive the main road towards the place you have a great view on the Kilimanjaro (if it isn't cloudy of course)!!! We were very impressed!
In the neighbourhood around are small places to get food or drinks, which is very practical!
As there is only one shower and one toilet you sometimes have to wait longer if there are many people that want to use the bathroom at the same time.
It is located a bit outside of the ceter. If you arrive at the "main square", you have to walk for around 30 minutes to get to the hostel - look up the map first! It is better to grab a cab as it is quite cheap (around 5000 TZS) and fast.
Altogether I can really recommend you that place to stay, would go there again!!! :)
thank you for taking the time to write a review about rafiki backpackers. We really appreciate it!
We are very happy that you and your friends had a good time with us. We really try our best to make you feel warmly welcomed, so if we met your expectations, that's when we are satisfied. :)
I am sorry if you had to wait for the showers and toilet. We must have forgotten to show the second shower and toilet in the back house. We also provide another bathroom en suite for the 6 bed dorm. Next time you come - and hopefully stay longer - I make sure to show you the second bathroom.
And if you come the next time please call us when you arrive at the bus station, we provide free pick up from town.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels to the fullest!
Dang, what a wonderful place staffed with even better people. Whether it was the owner, Alfred, or his assistant, Stephanie, or the cleaning lady / cook, Isabel, Rafiki Backpackers was an awesome choice for those on budget yet hungry for adventure in the quiet town of Moshi. He gave us a great deal on double beds and included great breakfast in the morning, and arranged for us on the spot for a tour of the local village to make coffee on the mountain kilimanjaro, as well as a day hike the following day. The place was clean, toilets and hot showers, very safe (I left my camera out for a good amount of time and no one touched it) and so friendly. Alfred and Stephanie will join you out on the chairs to talk, or join at the bar across the street to chat until late at night. They are super inclusive, inviting us out to go to local bars. They also gave us directions and suggestions about town. Definitely check out Rafiki, rafiki means friend in Swahili and this place definitely made me feel like a friend and not just a tourist.
wow, we are blushing and very happy that you enjoyed your time with us in Moshi that much. Isabella and I were reading the review together. Thank you Leigh for taking the time to share your experience with other travelers. If you ever come back to Moshi please visit and let's have a drink or two together. Enjoy the rest of your travels and stay safe!

I was so happy I booked a room with Alfred and Rafiki Backpackers. I arrived after 24 hours by bus from Uganda at 7 am. Alfred picked up immediately and took no time coming to pick me up and drive me back to the hostel. He was the best host and I will recommend this to everyone staying in Moshi! :-)
We had a very nice hike to Kilimanjaro with Viva Africa Tours!
Before our hike, all our equipment were checked by the guides to make sure that we were ready to meet the roof of Africa. If we were missing something, they helped us to get additional gear.
The company provides good service, with great food and experienced guides that will take good care of you in the mountain! the same same it was with Safari to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara
Stopped at Rafiki's while bussing from DAR to Nairobi. Alfred was awesome, he organised for someone to pick us up and also helped us book a shuttle for our journey the next day. The hostel itself was great. Located in a quieter neighbourhood it was just what we need after a long bus ride. We went on the coffee tour and waterfall hike, both were great and I would recommend them to others. There are two eating options nearby serving great food.
