“Perfect home for our group”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

We were a secondary school group from Australia and stayed at Pamoja Guesthouse for 6 nights. It was the perfect home away from home for us - safe, close to town, friendly staff and cosy rooms. It is also the perfect base to set off on safari from. Leonie coordinated our visit and provided detailed information for our school group and promptly responded to emails for the many months before our visit. During our visit all of the staff looked after us like family; which was valued by the staff/adults on the trip. Leonie ensured everything went smoothly during our stay, the mamas arrived early each morning to cater for our early departures and cooked beautiful breakfasts for us accompanied by gorgeous smiles and love, Saidi was there to farewell us for the day and welcomed us back each evening ensuring everything was fine and Andrew took the effort to visit us on numerous occasions to check that all was ok and to organise/order our evening meals - we pre-ordered dinner through Pamoja Cafe which was delivered to the guesthouse. With a group of 25 students and 6 adults, having this dinner ready for us after a long day working at a local project was amazing and convenient. The food was delicious!!! The rooms are lovely with most having ensuites and some with shared bathroooms. It is not a 5 star hotel (if that is what you are after); it is a warm and homely guesthouse. The house has lovely sitting areas where the students could socialise, play music, board games and chat. All of the staff on the trip agreed that Pamoja Guesthouse was the perfect place to stay, and lucky for us, we booked the entire guesthouse with our large group. There is a bar across the street from Pamoja Guesthouse, so buying beers and sodas was particularly easy and convenient. We loved everything about Pamoja Guesthouse and look forward to staying there when we return. AND the best thing about staying at Pamoja Guesthouse and eating from Pamoja Cafe, is that you know the money you are spending is supporting The Pamoja Tunaweza Women’s Centre and providing education and medical care to local women in Moshi.

An OK place to stay. Leonie, the manager is very helpful and friendly.Cleanliness is to be improved. The bedrooms are dusty, the bedsheets are a bit suspicious to sleep on and toilet brushes lie on the floor. The bathroom, washing sink was not thoroughly cleaned. The rooms are a bit overpriced.

We stayed at the Pamoja Guesthouse in February 2014 and we had a wonderful time there. The staff was very helpful especially Leonie. Rooms were great and they accommodated our needs as we were a group of 6 people from ages 12years to 78 years old. The guest house is a hub for medical volunteers who do some needed work in Tanzania. A great guest house and a great cause.

The guesthouse was comfortable, friendly and functional in every way, and in between activities, it was utterly relaxing. It was easy to arrange other related things, like book a safe, regular taxi, go to the Pamoja Café and book safaris and tours.

Stayed at Pamoja for 2 nights before & two nights after our Kili climb in February 2014. Had a private double room with shared bathroom. Highly recommend! Really comfy beds, clean room and great common amenities. Located about a 20 minute walk outside of Moshi town center, it offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle and dust of town. Great value for the price. Also, absolutely amazing staff (Leonie!).

We arrived in Moshi with the plan of climbing Kili, but without having anything booked in advance (other than a night at the Pamoja). We asked staff at Pamoja for input regarding tour operators, since we quickly realized Pamoja staff would be a trusted and unbiased source. They recommended an operator who we went with. Had a great experience and got really competitive pricing compared to other vendors in town. A fantastic recommendation on the part of Pamoja!

One minor thing I have to mention is that there is a sort of pub across the street from Pamoja which has one "party" night per week - Sunday. They play very loud music quite late, which kept my boyfriend up (but I slept comfortably with good earplugs). Again, this is only on Sunday nights. All other nights are extremely quiet, and as long as you have earplugs the discomfort is minor. Even so, I would absolutely stay here again given the option.

In sum, do yourself a favor and book with the Pamoja!

The pamoja guesthouse was a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. I had my own room with bathroom and felt safe and welcomed always. Leonie is the manager (and a volunteer as the proceeds go to the pamoja tunaweza womens centre and clinic) and she is a gem. I highly recommend staying here!

Leonie, the manager, was the most hospitable person that I met during a week long stay in Tanzania. As an ex-pat, she has plenty of foreigner-friendly advice, and was an amazing person to get to know. The guesthouse was clean, with large rooms, plenty of hot water, and incredible views of Kilimanjaro from the 2nd floor balcony. My room came with a well-maintained bug net and very comfortable pillows.

The Tanzanians manning the gate were incredibly friendly and tolerant of my comings and goings. On the grounds are also two wonderful dogs who are playful and seem child-friendly. There may be similarly quipped b&b's in Moshi, but I bet that none have the same quality of service as Pamoja. I would look forward to staying here again if my travels take me back to Moshi.
