“MT K Must Place to Stay”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

A place to call home away from home. The staff excelled in making us feel welcome.

We were picked up from the airport in Arusha and arrived to have lunch in the small restaurant. Teddy & staff arranged for a tour company to meet us that afternoon to discuss the next day's trip to MT K and other adventures to include a stunning lunch in a local village.

The attached school gave us an opportunity to visit with the children and see how they learn/play.

Room suite enable the three of us to sleep in comfortable privacy. Lobby internet connections a benefit to check news and other planned activities / airline reservations.

This lodge is huge and every room is spectacular. Fair warning to bathe with lizards!! Added to the unique experience.

Room Tip: Beautifully appointed. Staff created warm and inviting accommodations. TV-Sat not reliable yet sta...

We stayed only one night at this hotel almost for mistake (we planned to arrive to Tanzania 1 day later but our flight changed) so that we have to book a night in Kili before our activities started; and I would like to say that it was a beautiful surprise!
The hotel is really clean, staff people is very friendly specially the manager "Teddy" and the night receptionist "Innocent", since we arrive at one pretty rainy night, Innocent received us so nice and friendly.
And the most important: Is right in from of Kilimanjaro Mountain! We booked a night in a hotel that we tought it was in front of Kili, that costed us almost triple price and it was not so beautiful and friendly-staff like Stella Maris.
For travelers that would like to visit Moshi or go to Kilimanjaro or just to look at it, this is it!
An finally: The orphanage, the Hotel manages an orphanage located beside, you can visit the kids and watch them playing, a percentage of the profits go directly to the management of this school.
Great staying at Stella Maris, definitely we will recommend it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the last floor (second) in fron of Kili views

Great hotel. All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming especially Teddy. A bit of a way out of town but easy to get there by taxi or hotel shuttle and just off the main road to Arusha so easy to get off local bus. Great food available any time, freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. Buffet breakie with fresh fruit, pancakes, toast and any form of eggs you would like. Fabulous fresh home made juice too. Big bright airy rooms with fab air-con, comfy beds with mozzie nets and a big balcony. You can lay in bed and look directly at the mountain. Felt completely safe here, we were also happy to leave our stuff here whist we were out or away for a few days which is more than could be said for some places we stayed. There is a safe in the room and a lockable wardrobe if you need it. Fab hot shower at any time,
School attached is great, well worth a visit and you will hear the children singing and playing the drums in the morning. We helped out with a Maths lesson.
Will recomend this as a great base for the mountain, Moshi and safaris. We would stay here again for sure. So nice to think that profit from this hotel funds the school.

Room Tip: All the rooms at the front on the first floor have a direct view of Kili. All rooms bright and airy...

I stayed at the Stella Maris for two nights prior to hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, then one night at the end. Teddy works at the front desk and she is a wizard. She and all of the staff were friendly and helpful, always making sure you get what you need. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is extremely clean with well appointed rooms. I found the food in the restaurant to be very good and extremely reasonably priced. The hotel is about 10 miles outside of Moshi center, so you will either need to take a cab, or the Stella has a shuttle that can take you to town for a small fee. They were always right on time to pick us up as well. I took the Impala shuttle from Arusha and the drive was nice enough to drop me at the door since it was on the way. I guess some drivers won't do it so you have to ask.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Kilimanjaro. Even if you can't get one you can go to the bar on th...

I highly recommend the Stella Maris. I stayed at the lodge prior to my climb of Kilimanjaro in February, 2014, and at the end, before my safari. The staff, starting with Teddy, were wonderful and very friendly. I had a beautiful, clean room facing the mountain. The premises are clean, bright and cheerful. The food was excellent. The kitchen has an extensive menu and the choices are healthy, fresh and based on the local cuisine. It was rewarding to know that the proceeds of my stay are going towards the costs of educating the local schoolchildren. I strongly recommend the Stella Maris.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the mountain.

Stella Maris is a clean comfortable and very friendly hotel in Moshi,Eastern Tanzania. The service here is basic, but the the staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to please, knowing the hotel is non profit and funds a school for local children and their scores in the league tables - the school are also happy for visitors and we found this to be a great experience for the children as well as us. The kitchen has just had a refit and the menu revamped. This hotel is the ideal base from which to set off for Mt Kilimanjaro. My room had a view over the school and on a clear day the mountain was visible which made my stay even better. I would happily visit again.
