“Great Kilimanjaro Rest Option”

Booked the hotel on the internet and were very pleased with our experience, especially when we discovered that the hotel supports a primary school located on the grounds---great idea. Staff was very helpful and most friendly. We ate four meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast and lunch) and enjoyed them very much; food quality was first rate! Recommend the hotel highly; excellent value in food and lodging plus the added benefit of contributing to a commmunity committed to making a difference.

Stella Maris Lodge was an excellent home away from home for us, and it supports a worthy cause -- the elementary school next door. The employees made it a good place to stay. Innocent Chazz, and the lodge provided transportation, with a smile, for us from Arusha to Stella Maris, and then later to the Kilimanjaro Airport. Teddy Chuwa, office manager and a joyful lady made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent. A bonus was meeting Jessica Pasionek, a teacher at the school, who came to the lodge lobby in the morning and took us to see opening exercises with the school children. That was wonderful to see as they chanted, did exercises and sang. We were invited into Jessica's math class afterward. Knowing that the Stella Maris Lodge exists as a means of raising support for the school was important to us. Although the room was small at the lodge it was clean and a good value. Thank you Teddy, Innocent and Jessica for a great stay!

Room Tip: Ask for one facing toward Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Stella Maris is an absolutely unique location. The hotel exists to fund the attached primary school, so a philanthropy minded traveler will be glad to hear that every dollar they spend at the hotel, after the staff is paid, goes to the children. In addition, the hotel manager Teddy Chuwa is an absolutely darling woman who treated my friends and I like she would her own children. Never before have I felt so welcome when traveling abroad. For explorers, the hotel has excellent relationships with many tour groups and their expertise should be trusted 100%. They absolutely have the guest's interests in mind above all else. During my first visit, I was in Tanzania as a medical student volunteer and Stella Maris acted like my home say from home. I'm already planning my next visit for when I graduate. See you in 2017, Stella Maris.

First thing we realized when we saw our room was that is was too much stuff in it.

We were two people and had asked for a room with a double bed. We got a room with two big beds. Even though the hotel was almost empty.

Since there was also a table and an arm chair in the room there was almost no floor space left to walk on.

There was a pub upstairs which was nicely decorated but we only found it on our last day when one of the managers brought it up in passing.

The restaurant felt more like a big school cafeteria than a hotel restaurant and the food wasn't really that great either.

The place feels like it's built on good intentions and idea to build a hotel to finance a school is really nice. It still has a long way to go though.

Room Tip: Apparenly the rooms on the second floor are better. We stayed on the first floor.

A place to call home away from home. The staff excelled in making us feel welcome.

We were picked up from the airport in Arusha and arrived to have lunch in the small restaurant. Teddy & staff arranged for a tour company to meet us that afternoon to discuss the next day's trip to MT K and other adventures to include a stunning lunch in a local village.

The attached school gave us an opportunity to visit with the children and see how they learn/play.

Room suite enable the three of us to sleep in comfortable privacy. Lobby internet connections a benefit to check news and other planned activities / airline reservations.

This lodge is huge and every room is spectacular. Fair warning to bathe with lizards!! Added to the unique experience.

Room Tip: Beautifully appointed. Staff created warm and inviting accommodations. TV-Sat not reliable yet sta...

We stayed only one night at this hotel almost for mistake (we planned to arrive to Tanzania 1 day later but our flight changed) so that we have to book a night in Kili before our activities started; and I would like to say that it was a beautiful surprise!
The hotel is really clean, staff people is very friendly specially the manager "Teddy" and the night receptionist "Innocent", since we arrive at one pretty rainy night, Innocent received us so nice and friendly.
And the most important: Is right in from of Kilimanjaro Mountain! We booked a night in a hotel that we tought it was in front of Kili, that costed us almost triple price and it was not so beautiful and friendly-staff like Stella Maris.
For travelers that would like to visit Moshi or go to Kilimanjaro or just to look at it, this is it!
An finally: The orphanage, the Hotel manages an orphanage located beside, you can visit the kids and watch them playing, a percentage of the profits go directly to the management of this school.
Great staying at Stella Maris, definitely we will recommend it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the last floor (second) in fron of Kili views
