“Great Hotel for Kili or Safaris”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

My son and I stayed at this hotel before and after our Mt Kilimanjaro climb. Excellent service..the people are great. Very good accommodations including air conditioning. Internet was marginal but that is Africa. Great food, I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Book early.

This hotel pretty much functions as the home base for Kili treks operated by Zara tours. I would not recommend anyone to stay here without the aforementioned purpose. But then Zara itself is a different topic of conversation...

I find that it gets overwhelming with groups of trekkers constantly coming and going. There's this weird group dynamic in the atmosphere with people looking and sizing each other, overhearing individual Kili experiences.

In terms of location, the hotel is far away from town. It does provide a shuttle (for a fee) to go into Moshi center, for ATMs, etc. The organization for the shuttle is confusing, and again, somewhat overwhelming. We were in a shuttle with a man on his way to the emergency room. I was nervous on his behalf. He should have been able to take a private taxi/shuttle to the ER without having to wait for random people who were just taking leisure trips into town.

The buffet meals they provide are expensive, at least relative to the local standard of living: 7 US dollars for breakfast, 8 for lunch, 10 for dinner, if I remember correctly. The food is decent.

On the plus side, they do have a decent pool and a garden for hanging out. And the staff service is good.

Final words: don't stay here unless you have to. But then again, I'm not sure what other options there are in the area.

Good functional accommodations. Is a bit off the beaten path and road which it is on is not as smooth as some of the trails on Kilimajaro. Make sure to turn on water heater when you get back from Kili. Garden and patio are nice and there is plenty of cold beer for very reasonable price. Food is fine and free wifi is great bonus . Overall nice place to start and finish Kilimanjaro climb. Very prompt and helpful staff and connections to airport

The hotel is very basic, there is hot water though and the staff are really friendly.

It is a little bit out of town but there is a shuttle that runs for $1 per person each way into town.

The food and drink is quite over priced here but they do have a nice communal dining setup for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a nice way to speak to people who have climbed Kilimanjaro or who have done a safari. Most (if not all) people staying at the hotel are doing or have done one of these trips. The buffet food is very nice and the chef makes a concerted effort to give a choice of western food along with some more local options.

If you are climbing Kilimanjaro and will be renting anything for it, Jessica and the team in the rental office are fantastic!

We started our Kilimanjaro hike @ Springlands Hotel outside of Moshi. Nice accommodation with friendly stuff, good food and garden bar. Best is the shower after the Kili-trek, makes you feel human again. Met our very supportive and well organized tour team from GAdventure led by Mndeme.

Dear Tom Nairobi
Many thanks for sharing your Kili Experience with us, we are proud that you had best experience with us, we have note your concern regarding the chairs in the swimming pool area and we are ordering pads for the chairs. You are welcome again.

Clean rooms with friendly and attentive staff. Good place to launch from for Kili trek. Good food too. Nothing fancy, but the basics are well covered. Pool is there but plastic chairs without pads don't invite one to linger...

I stayed here with a friend before and after we tackled the Kilimanjaro climb. Location is a little out of the town but to be honest this is a good thing. The pool isn't great so don't book this thinking your going swimming all day because I doubt you'll want to. It's perfect for a couple of nights, staff are friendly and very helpful and the rooms are basic but clean and tidy. I must admit I would have liked a TV in the room but they do have a TV area if you want to watch something. WIFI is available around the main hotel areas but is very busy and it makes it slow, not brilliant for Skype, facetime etc. We had AC in our room which was good as well, nice and quiet.

Room Tip: Try and book room number 3, we could pick the wifi up from within this room.
