I've been going here once a year for 10 years and have extensive knowledge of the area and people. This is not just the best hotel in the area, it has the most genuine, nice staff as well. stay here over any other place in town. Their knowledge and support of adventures in the area is unparalleled!

Room Tip: Rooms near the north side are quieter

We stayed at springlands before our kilimanjaro climb. We had booked it together as a package deal.
Firstly location is not great it's far out from town and so difficult to get around. The price of the room and breakfast included is definitely not worth the money you pay. Very basic room, old fashioned, bedside lamps not working, lighting in the room was poor. The bathroom as well, shower not working properly, like a trickle of water, no partition between the shower and the toilet, so the floor remains wet.
Personally the reception staff and some of the hotel staff were not helpful at all and not accommodating. We felt very undermined. They wanted all the bills to be sorted the night before you check out but nothing seemed systematic or in order.
Breakfast was always cold, even though they had food heaters. Lunch and dinners were not included but you would pay $10 for dinner and $8 for lunch. Being vegetarian as we had mentioned to the staff , directed us to the chef, he asked us what we would like but weren't told of an extra $5 supplementary charge for the food per person.
Rental equipment was over priced, we bought head torches for our climb and tried them to see if they were working which seemed like they were working but they stopped working as soon we started our climb.
I wouldn't recommending staying at this hotel, you can use their tour company as the tour guides are brilliant and package is good but definitely not the hotel.

Firstly let me start with the climb

The guide was excellent.. So so knowledgeable and helpful. He looked after us every hour of the day. The crew were amazing from the chef to the waiter to the porters. Will never forget the climb and what a journey it was. I would definitely recommend Zara for the climb

Now the hotel and rest

They made us wait 2hours at the airport so three passengers could join us to the hotel. Not what you want when your tired. No apologies.
Day 1, the showers were not flowing, instead was dripping. The bed side lamp wasn't even working. Staff were just rude from just general enquiries, maybe because we were also from East Africa.

The hotel really needs a revamp for what it charges. Prices of drinks are not that bad in comparison to general hotel prices.

Coming back from the climb, we were dreading going back to this hotel. Luckily we just stayed one night there as we wanted to leave ASAP.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel (pre and after our KIlimanjaro climb and safari) and saw both very busy and not so busy days. The hotel has everything you need (at a slightly inflated cost) food, drinks, pool, equipment to rent if you forgot something. Free wireless (sometimes is ti moody and does not work at the speed you would like) and shuttle bus to the town.
The rooms are nice, hot shower all the time, mosquito nets in pretty good condition, air-condition in each room.
Staff is very helpful and if you just want to chill you have plenty of shady green areas where you can drink your beer/coke/water while talking to fellow trekkers/travellers or just browsing on the internet from the cool of the garden.
Was a good base for our trek and safari.
Thank you Zara

Thanks Springland! You made our trip to Kili enjoyable, organized and relaxing, especially when we came back. The staff is friendly and helpful, and we had no problems. We slept well, ate well and left happy.

This hotel was very stingy and terrible value. The rooms were worse quality than the cheapest backpackers in town and all 4 single beds in the room that my partner and i shared had large holes in the mosquito netting and plenty of mosquitos managed to get through the fly screen and into the room. We stayed in Moshi for a whole week before arriving here to climb Kilimanjaro and this is the first time we were getting bitten by mozzies.

The location was very far out of town and despite online advertising stating there were free shuttles into town (booked through Ultimate Kilimanjaro) we had to pay for this service. Everything from a power adapter to the water that was meant to be included in our climb package was charged and for prices between 3X and 5X more than it would have cost us in town.

Although the staff were friendly so are the locals in town (Tanzania has a beautiful culture) and they were helpful until the morning when we were meant to get a taxi to the airport - where the phrase "hakuna matata" (no worries) became all too common and the taxi arrived 45 minutes late.

For those doing the Kilimanjaro tour: Porters get paid 9 USD per day of climbing but for the locals this is still sought after money and your tip is what makes up the rest of their wages.

Anyway I guess my review comes from having stayed in several beautiful backpackers, B&B's and hotels in Moshi town before arriving at Springlands hotel. Having done this I have seen that for exactly 1/4 of the price you can get much better.. EVERYTHING - nicer breakfasts, staff that are capable of helping you, free niceties and amasing locations in town.

Room Tip: Avoid staying here!

2 friends and I stayed at Springlands before and after our climb of Kilimanjaro and enjoyed the experience. Since it is located outside of the town of Moshi we had all of our meals on site including a free breakfast. We found the meals to be very good with lots of fresh local fruits and vegetables. Although the road leading to there was in very poor shape the hotel was well kept and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We also found it very useful in meeting other travelers to Kilimanjaro who provided us with their personal experience in climbing the mountain.
