The Springlands was our base for a Mt. Kilimanjaro climb. It's owned by the climb outfitter, Zara Tours, and I have no idea what the rates are, it was a package price. Bottled water and beer were reasonably priced.

No-one will ever rate this a 5 star hotel, or even 4 stars.

However it suited the purpose, two nights before the climb and one night after.

The rooms were acceptable in context, and clean aside from dead insects on the bathroom floor.
The grounds were well maintained.
The staff were friendly and attentive.
The food was marginal, they'll be getting no Michelin stars anytime soon.

While this is a lukewarm review the acid test is "Would you go back", and yes, I would. For where it is, it's probably pretty good. You're not going to find a Hilton in Moshi and as a base for mountain climbing it's perfectly adequate.

The staff at the hotel are friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms are basic, but well appointed and the swimming pool is great (even by the standards of swimming pools at grand hotels elsewhere in the world). I loved the courtyard of the hotel. The food is decent and there is enough to eat. The hotel has a tropical feel to it. The road leading to the hotel needs attention, and one could wonder what awaits one when you travel the road, although to be fair, this is not the responsibility of the hotel as it is a public road. I would recommend the hotel for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms that are situated away from the entrance of the hotel as there is some noise in that area. Roo...

Springlands is owned by Zara tours and we used them for Kilimanjaro and a 7 day safari. The hotel is a bit out of town, but Zara provides free guided tours of Moshi, a great way to introduce yourself to the town. The rooms are clean and the staff is fantastic. Everyone was friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. Buffet breakfasts are included with a decent selection. If you order an omelette, you may need to wait a few minutes. Lunches and dinners are also buffet ( $8 and $10 USD) and they just get charged to your room, so no fussing with cash.

First of all, the score is for the whole trip booked with Zara Tours. Hotel belongs to them and almost everyone sleeping there is going or just back from the trip with Zara so it's hard to score it separately, I would rather call it the base camp. The hotel itself is good as for Tanzanian standards, clean rooms, beds are fine. Some maintenance would be advised, but staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast simple, but tasty, just be prepared to wait a moment for eggs if you order something. Lunch and dinner not included, but organised in the same everyone-at-the-same-time way. Hotel is out of the town, but that's not a problem as everything starts and ends in the hotel, but if you want, you can ask any guide for a town trip (much better than walking alone). Everything else booked with Zara was absolutely superb. Kili trip with fantastic crew, especially guides (thanks Winfordi again for reaching the Uruhu Peak). Our cook Tosha was a genius, we were eating better on a track than in a hotel and we had more food than we could eat. I must add, that Zara treats porters very well, what they confirmed, including fair tips distribution (all recorded in Zara's documents). Short but perfect Safari and we were never late for anything - perfect organisation, I can't see any reason to book indirectly, paying someone else extra for nothing. I've been going here once a year for 10 years and have extensive knowledge of the area and people. This is not just the best hotel in the area, it has the most genuine, nice staff as well. stay here over any other place in town. Their knowledge and support of adventures in the area is unparalleled!

Room Tip: Rooms near the north side are quieter

We stayed at springlands before our kilimanjaro climb. We had booked it together as a package deal.
Firstly location is not great it's far out from town and so difficult to get around. The price of the room and breakfast included is definitely not worth the money you pay. Very basic room, old fashioned, bedside lamps not working, lighting in the room was poor. The bathroom as well, shower not working properly, like a trickle of water, no partition between the shower and the toilet, so the floor remains wet.
Personally the reception staff and some of the hotel staff were not helpful at all and not accommodating. We felt very undermined. They wanted all the bills to be sorted the night before you check out but nothing seemed systematic or in order.
Breakfast was always cold, even though they had food heaters. Lunch and dinners were not included but you would pay $10 for dinner and $8 for lunch. Being vegetarian as we had mentioned to the staff , directed us to the chef, he asked us what we would like but weren't told of an extra $5 supplementary charge for the food per person.
Rental equipment was over priced, we bought head torches for our climb and tried them to see if they were working which seemed like they were working but they stopped working as soon we started our climb.
I wouldn't recommending staying at this hotel, you can use their tour company as the tour guides are brilliant and package is good but definitely not the hotel.

Firstly let me start with the climb

The guide was excellent.. So so knowledgeable and helpful. He looked after us every hour of the day. The crew were amazing from the chef to the waiter to the porters. Will never forget the climb and what a journey it was. I would definitely recommend Zara for the climb

Now the hotel and rest

They made us wait 2hours at the airport so three passengers could join us to the hotel. Not what you want when your tired. No apologies.
Day 1, the showers were not flowing, instead was dripping. The bed side lamp wasn't even working. Staff were just rude from just general enquiries, maybe because we were also from East Africa.

The hotel really needs a revamp for what it charges. Prices of drinks are not that bad in comparison to general hotel prices.

Coming back from the climb, we were dreading going back to this hotel. Luckily we just stayed one night there as we wanted to leave ASAP.
