“Cosy Hotel with friendly stuff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

Pia's Poppies has a nice atmosphere in the traditional decorated house. Nice little Garden and a fishpond in the backyard. Our twinroom was quiet and had a big comfortable bathroom. But for some reason the warm water wasn't running all the time.

The stuff was realy friendly! They where fully booked as we wanted to come back after some days in the north. But they helped us to book a room in an other hotel during we where trekking in the mountains. Thats a great service!

Food was also nice, but you have to order early because sometimes the kitchen is a bit slow because not enought stuff is working there. Better to order in the morning!
In compare to other Hotels on our trip, we liked a lot that no Guides are hanging around there and waiting for new customers!

Room Tip: Book early if you wanna stay there, because they are often full!

Very nice place to stay.
Wi-fi only in diner area. Food is expensive but you should try the mona lisa juice mmmm
If you don't have hot water...ask to put the boiler on
Staff is very friendly.
Good price/quality !
And woman alone be careful for the guides Yussuf and Pieter. Yussuf can't keep his hands off and Pieter isn't honnest!!! They are both waiting for tourists in front of this lovely guesthouse.

I was staying alone in the room, paying 99.000IRD without breakfast. This is cheaper then many others for single occupancy, and the room provided was definitely one of the better once during my last 11 months of traveling.

It was a twin bedded room (no 5), with a spacious bathroom, with nice natural Stone walls and a bit of furniture.
The room was decently clean, and every day it was cleaned again, during my 5 night stay, they even changed the bed linen a few times.

The colleagues working there were very friendly
WIFI Signal was OK, but sometimes extremely slow

I did not eat dinner in the Restaurant, as it is just so expensive that it is far above my backpacker Budget. I had breakfast there a few times, which was good, but also pricy.

Overall I can recommend this place, especially for single travelers.
Double occupancy is more expensive, with 77000IRD PP

Room Tip: 5 was great

Hotel situated just off main road & 500m or so to main shops/banks; nice timber lobby/dining room and OK rooms with quirky stone-walled bathrooms. Bedrooms could do with a lick of paint. Lovely staff. Probably no escaping the non-stop roosters early morning wakeup! Great meals if slightly pricey - try the chicken/beef/fish cooked inside bamboo!

For value (price for quality) we gave it a 5.
We stayed at Poppies for 5 nights a few weeks ago. The rooms are run down but very very clean ( sheets were changed every second day). The owners were discreet and very helpful. They helped with the booking at our next stop, they arranged for the bus to pick us up just outside the door (night bus on a rainy night) and many other little things. They often gave delicious free snacks in the evening (fried bananas with chocolate sauce, pumpkin soup, etc). The cooking was slow but the food was amazingly good and we didn't mind the waiting as their dining room is conducive to exchanging info with other travellers...that is when we pulled ourselves away from the two little tables beside the amazing exotic flower garden that attacks many kinds of birds. NOTE: it is an even better deal for those travelling alone as the price for the room is half than if you are two sharing a room.

Room Tip: Bathroom in room 3 has its unique atmosphere. They have hot water but you sometimes have to ask for...

We stayed 3 night on january following the reviews of TA and have tO say that we had a lovely stay in PiasPoppies. It is a tipe of family guesthouse, basic but comfortable, very clean, quite and the staff is simply wonderfull. Christian is such a nice guy helping us in every momment, and the rest of the family it struggle to make our stay a wonderfull part of our hollyday.
Breackfast is awsom and mona lisa juice is the best fruit juice i have ever drink in my life. You do not forget to order a papiong for dinner, you must do it at list 5 hours before because it takes long for cooking but its so nice and tasty.
Just a tip, forget about the little fat man that every morning comes to breakfast room to pick clients offering extremely expensive tours in english and spanish.
We get the same tour he offers for half price asking on reception and the son of piaspoppies owner took 5 of us in his comfortable car for a full day trip visiting toraja land. It was great experience !!
I will deffenetly recommend this place to my friends and everyone that travels to toraja land.

as we first went to another hotel in rantepao which was terrible (very loud at 4am in the morning, smelly like fungi), we took the only free room in pias poppies. it was clean!, big, nice bathroom, cleaned every day by the very nice crew! it had some fungi on the walls, but no smell, and almost every house there has fungi on the walls caused by the humidity... we were very well taken care of, they just gave us cakes in the afternoons, they spoiled us for new years ev, made a huge delicious dinner for all of their guests, everybody was invited!, and a hangover lunch on the first... for me was one of the most important things that its not located in the middle of the center, but still in walking distance, so it is more like a calm oasis where you can stay and relax with the sound of the water (big pond in the garden) and the frogs instead of the motorbikes and mosqueprayers in the center. the wifi is pretty good and fast! why people in the forum cionsider it as expensive, i dont understand its 66.000 rupiah (would go there again for sure!
