“The other branch in New Bagan”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

Went to Star Beam in New Bagan twice within six days and it is exactly what many restaurants (in Europe or anywhere really) are not anymore. Many times, you walk out of a well-marketed and sleek restaurant having eaten average food (at best). At Star Beam, you leave your bamboo table in the sand in front of a very simple hut, having eaten well-above-average delicious food for relatively small money. Your table is set up just like your table at the sleek European restaurant, after 10 minutes you are served the fresh home-made bread with butter on your bread plate with your bread knife and the surprises continue from there on. All the food we tried was fantastic, the service was impeccable and every time, we left happy. The more recent place in New Bagan is run by the owner's brother, who worked for restaurants and hotels abroad and applies high restaurant standards to this place. Thank you once again for the delicious meals!

“best of the tasty group of restaurants just north of Ananda”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

Just so you know, 4 of the top 10 Bagan restauarants on TA are literally grouped together in an unpaved parking lot just between Ananda temple and the main paved road. They are all a bit similar, and if you pay a bit more, it's a bit better, so we tried a different one for each of the 4 days we were in Bagan.
*StarBeam is a bit pricier than the rest but not really pricey ($15-20 for 2 pax) and is more a Burmese-French fusion. Favourite dishes were the LOVELY aubergine salad (delicate and light) and the lunch curry, and the ginger juice-drinks. Family-run and personal service. it takes time but nice shady tables. The only place we went twice, and good both times.
TIP: do NOT eat in any of the hotels, as the prices there are DOUBLE, TRIPLE OR 4X the price of this clutch of restaurants.

“Delicious food”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

I ate at the restaurant in new bagan. The restaurant itself is very basic but the food there is great. The chef sure does now what he or she is doing! Also, their ginger juices are very refreshing on a hot Bagan day.

“Absolutely fantastic food from a great chef”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

We had a lovely evening meal at Star Beam and the food was excellent as was the hospitality. We had several meals in Bagan and this was definitely the best and most interesting. The chef/owner has strong credentials from previous establishments

“Star Beam restaurant”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

Next door to the Moon(be kind to animals) is the very slick Star Beam restaurant. The food is very western in it's approach but is superb, although the curries do lack some chillies punch, the staff are friendly and professional, Prices are mid range for Myanmar making it good value and definitely in the top 5 of Bagan
