You sit down and the dishes arrive - all delicious. A great way to discover the local food. Don't be put off by the fact that there is no menu - you don't need one. Friendly service and the daughter of the owner speaks good English so it's nice to chat to her.

The food was authentic Burmese, they didn't seem to have a menu but brought out a huge array of dishes in order for us to try a little bit of each. We found some dishes absolutely delicious, and others just ok but the great benefit was that there was so much to try!

The food was only part of the experience. My Mum and I were joined by the entire extended family for our meal who were lovely and chatty, and seemed extremely grateful for our custom. They gave us a description of each dish as we ate it. We got so chummy by the end that I was even offered to take one of the relatives' hand in marriage!

If you are keen to sample a range of Burmese dishes and enjoy chatting with some genuinely happy, friendly locals then I couldn't recommend this place enough.

You'll find this restaurant just off the main street in New Bagan, east of the market.

This place is very friendly and has been in Bagan since it was called Pagan! Off of the main circle of touristy restaurants, this is the real deal for Burmese food served in a traditional fashion. Bagan is a tourist trap basically and the restaurants are average at best. Locals eat here! Check it out!

This was by far my favorite restaurant experience in Bagan. It's a bit off the beaten path but worth finding. The amounts of food were unbelievable AND it was amazingly delicious. Two litres of beer, two bottles of water and an endless supply of food cost $12 for two of us and that was evidenltly a small mark up from the local rates. Well worth a visit. They even fanned the flies away from our food while we ate and gave us a tour of their kitchen after the meal. Don't miss this!!

After a first night's meal in New Bagan, we had started to wonder if the food was as touristy and predictable as much of the other fare in Bagan. When we sat down at Pwint Mar Lar Restaurant, just behind the market in New Bagan, however, we were immediately greeted with a waitstaff of smiling family-members and something felt right. We each ordered a package special of four dishes for the price of less than 5USD. Something must have tipped off the family that we were there to eat and taste as many different things as possible, and they just started bringing out dish after dish of new things to try. The whole time, the family sat and watched on, amazed both at our ability to eat all of their food and our appreciation for their taste. Everything was exceptional, as were the desserts that a neighboring lady brought by. I would have been happy to spend $50 here just because they were so earnest and the food was that good. But I didn't have to spend more than $5. Incredible place. Definitely get the package specials.
