“A Beautiful Temple”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

One of the few temples to show mold or water damage, the resulting patina was extraordinary.
And example of beautiful, delicate craftsmanship.

“Crowning Jewel”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

The Sulamani is beautiful both outside and inside. Outside, the glazed terracotta decorations and stucco plaster carvings outside are still intact. Our guide told us that the colourful paintings inside were restored in the 16th C, some of which depict life of the common / royal Bagan people, and one of a reclining Buddha, as well as a dying Buddha. (If I remember correctly.) A dying Buddha faces a certain direction & is depicted with monks crying near his body.

“Well-preserved wall paintings”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

This temple is one of the well-preserved in Bagan, where you can see good mix of golden Buddhas and wall paintings. What is unique here is the grand entrance and tiled alley going inside the temple. You will also see lots of locals praying and resting inside. You can see the huge wall paintings in the outer part of the temple - very nice to end your day here before watching the sunset. There are also nice paintings being sold outside - lots of souvenirs too to bring home!
