Great value for money - with spacious rooms, clean, helpful service, great pool. Beds are comfy, breakfast is decent. So if you don;t expect anything beyond 3 starts amenities, you'll definitely enjoy your stay :)

Stayed here 3 nights on a Peregrine Trip. Nice room upstairs overlooking glorious pool and grounds. The bed was very nice and the room a good size. Bathroom had shower over bath of separate large shower head on tiled bathroom floor. Safe in rooms for belongings. Pool was luke warm, huge and very clean. The breakfast was very average - poor, but included. Although they had dinners we didn't eat here as there was no atmosphere in the dining room at all. Some of the rooms again had the mothball/deodoriser smell in them which was horrid, we were fortunate not to have this. There were lovely fluffy towels at the end of the pool. Best meals out were at "The black Rose" a smallish cafe run by a very friendly man. Food was great and very cheap. It was good Myanmar food. Deserts of pancakes approx $2US of a plate of fresh fruit US$1 approx. Beer 600ml bottles approx US$2.50. So good we returned there for 2 nights. Bagan (the new city) is very small and quite a distance from the old city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool. Beautiful gardens and setting

We arrived at the Sky Palace Hotel and were put in small dark room that had a window that looked immediately out onto the wall of the next building less than 2 meters away. We asked to move as the hotel was nearly empty and were shown a room upstairs with the same view. I asked again to move and were given a different room which was brighter and airer. I asked if the room was quite and the answer was yes. At 4am the generator started outside the room which was very noisy. Why the manager could not have given us a better room from the beginning considering there was no one in the hotel I do not know. The pool area however was lovely! This is also one of the closest hotels to Old Bagan where most of the pagodas are so a great location.

Great swimming pool. The room was old looking and wasn't so clean. And they have only twin rooms??? So I was told. Pretty bad breakfast. If you wanna walk around outside of the hotel, get a flashlight as it's really dark around the area. There are a few dining options walking distance. I got a good rate so wasn't expecting much but was a little disappointed. Overall average.

A nice place to stay in. The quality of the breakfast isn't exceptional, but there is a larger variety of food than the other Hotels we have been to. The rooms are very tidy and clean with a good bathroom, not too elegant. Nevertheless, all in all, with good service, internet and air conditioning, it's all you need for a good night before leaving for your visit in the city!

The Sky Palace hotel is situated in a lovely garden just off the main road in Bagan. This being a city with just 15.000 inhabitants, main road is quite different to those in Mandalay or Yangoon.

Rooms are spacious and so are the beds and the bathroom. All amenities are there and I particularly appreciated the bathrobe.

The pool is good for doing laps or just unwind after another long day with temples and pagodas.

Breakfast is a bit more blend than other Burmese hotels I stayed at but dinner turned out to be tasty and they are more than happy to serve it by the pool. Be aware that they only sell liquor by the bottle and that Gin is not on their drinking menu. They offered to go out and buy a bottle though.

Staff is as friendly and helpful as you would want them to be. Always a kind greeting and a smile. Highly recommendable.

We stayed 2 nights at the "new" Sky Palace Hotel in New Bagan purely by accident. Our original hotel (Golden Express in Old Bagan) had "lost our reservation" and/or given away our rooms to a tour group or some other hypothesis. Well, we were THRILLED with the Sky Palace Hotel and were therefore thankful for the way things turned out.

Location: While we originally wanted to be in Old Bagan, the Sky Palace (which is in New Bagan) was actually much better! It is newer, less crowded, there are tons of places to eat, and the staff are eager to help you get around. The archelogical park is right at the doorstep, so you can begin visiting temples within minutes with bikes/horse/driver.

Transport: We were planning on renting bikes, but the weather was 44 degrees Celsius. The front desk manager of the hotel said it would get uncomfortable, but he could show us where to rent bikes no problem (they could arrange it for us immediately if desired). That was nice, as he gave us a few choices to think about. What we did instead was rent a horse and buggy with driver/guide. The hotel organized him to pick us up as soon as we were ready, and we planned on using him for a half day. Well, the trip to the temples and monasteries was so fabulous that we decided to KEEP the horse and buggy with driver/guide for the entire day...AND he suggested that we rest and use the pool during the hot hours (2-4pm). Then he picked us up again late afternoon and took us to see the sunset atop a beautiful temple (not a crowded one). It was spectaular. The next day we decided to do it all again, but this time with a private driver. It was not expensive, all the prices are negotiated by the hotel and were the going rate (no feeling of being ripped off). We had an air con van all to ourselves. We did again a tour of markets, temples, etc and with an afternoon break at our hotel for the use of the pool. The hotel arranged everything! Also, they did it all within 20 minutes upon our arrival, so no need to sweat the small stuff before you get there.

Front Desk: They were very helpful. Free water in rooms. Extra towels at the pool. Airport transfer by the hotel driver (again, you pay the going rate, not an inflated price). They gave us maps and suggested lots of options for our day trips. The hotel greeted us with refreshing towels and juice when we arrived. It was lovely.

Hotel Room and Pool: We were in Bungalow G2. It was newly renovated (or newly built I believe) and finished in Nov 2012. It was great! Very spacious, with mini bar and closet and free water upon arrival. Flat screen TV. Huge bathroom with rain shower as well as shower in bathtub. There were nice bathrooms provided and flip flops for pool/shower area. The pool was beautiful, with separate shallow area for kids and fab lounge chairs with cushions (ask for them if they are not yet laid out due to heat). The room had nice photos on wall, closet, and a changing nook with stool, mirror and hairdryer. There were a few cracks in the walls but it is really common and nothing to worry about at all = this is common in Myanmar with the shifting of the grounds due to the hot/dry seasons which affects cement walls according to my friends who live there. The room was quiet and the breakfast was very good = it included asian dishes (noodles, vermicelli, rice dishes, sweet/sour pork, asian veggies, spring rolls), crepes with honey, local croissants and danishes, good jam, eggs, ham, juices, fresh fruit, etc.

Summary: Defintely we would recommend this hotel! We loved it and would stay there again for sure! The hotel organized everything we needed to see Bagan as soon as we arrived and did not overcharge us at all for anything. The price was $ 60 USD for two twin beds in a bungalow room (in a row of 4) in March 2013. Before going to Bagan, we thought being near Old Bagan was better but we are sold on New Bagan due to their eagerness to please (not as crowded as Old Bagan) walking distance to restaurants in the evening and quieter temples for sunsets views. The hotel had everthing we needed to make our stay perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room.
