“An superb oasis in an area not overburdened with quality”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

The rooms at this hotel are very simple but also elegantly designed. Spotlessly clean and the bed was divinely comfortable. Room blocks are around a small pretty garden with a good pool (but in the very hot weather of this week I was concerned about its water quality: it had insects visibly living in it and needs more active water quality management).

Service levels are excellent and we were made to feel very welcome and staff were immensely attentive and helpful. Yes, it's true wifi is tortuous and the hotel only takes cash; but this is true of Bagan in general and will be for at least a couple more years yet.

There is a small dining pavilion and a lovely outdoor garden seating area where to take evening drinks. The hotel does superb cocktails. For lunch and dinner the menu options are rather limited, to be honest, and I would recommend the hotel consider a 'daily special' just to liven things up; but what they set out to do they do with sincere focus on quality and flavour.

This being the hot time of year I have to say that, while the rooms are wonderfully air-conditioned the lack of a cool public space is a pity (one evening we went to eat elsewhere just so as to be able to eat somewhere in comfort with air conditioning). There were 2 fans available for the dining pavilion but they're largely ineffective for the whole space; small though it is. The reception pavilion is also a heat-trap that at this time of year isn't very welcoming: this is a good hotel but to be a great one it needs to think about guest comfort in the hot season. I recommend the management. Consider addressing this issue should be their next investment step.

Room Tip: Definitely you want to ensure your room overlooks the pool and garden; make it a condition of bookin...

The Blue Bird Hotel in New Bagan is an excellent hotel. The rooms are very comfortable. The staff are excellent. They have a great pool which is great after a long day viewing the pagodas and temples. I liked the restaurant and found it to be better than the local ones. The hotel is convenient to the township. Staff are particularly helpful.

This place is truly one in a million. The staff is over the top, so friendly and helpful, that no other hotel can match. No matte it is during check-in, for breakfast or just walking around in the garden, always a chitchat and a big smile. When relaxing in the pool they even bring ice cold water for free. Went out during the waterfestival, was soaking wet, fresh towel and water was served in the reception.
The staff is truly amazing and give this place so much integrity.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and beautifully designed, the staff are delightful and extremely helpful and the pool and garden were a welcome escape from the midday sun.
Lovely breakfasts in the open air restaurant and gardena and a dinner menu that features both western and Myanmar choices (the Myanmar curries were delicious).
OK wifi near the restaurant and open air bar - good enough for email, not fast enough for video.
Not as central a location as Old Bagan, but the staff can swiftly arrange a car or e-bikes (at very reasonable cost) and bicycles were free to use.
Would stay again.

I stayed in a few hotels in Myanmar, and due to the influx of tourist the hotel prices were generally extremely high for what I received. At the Blue Bird Hotel I actually felt like I was getting what I paid for.
The hotel had a boutique feel to it. The rooms were great, large in size, a lounge area, a DVD player which was very handy during the quiet nights, good AC and a couple of power boards with universal adapters. The shower was in it's own room. It was a waterfall type shower which I quite liked. Not the most powerful fall of water however it was better than the water pressure of my other hotels and it was always hot.
The hotel is not really close enough to the sights without the use of a car, and there's not much nearby except other hotels. The hotel organised a car driver for two day tours. For $40 a day the driver picked me up at 8am, dropped my back at the hotel for a rest after lunch, then picked me up around 3pm for the afternoon. The sights are close enough to see several in a day. I covered around 15 good sights each day, and saw all the temples that I wanted to see. I recommend asking the driver to take you to a traditional Myanmar restaurant for lunch. About 20 small plates come out for meals that I enjoyed the most in Myanmar.
The restaurant at the hotel was nice from a location and ambiance view, however the menu is limited. The meals are okay but it would have been nice to have more local options.
If I return to Bagan I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is gorgeous. Definitely a little gem in Myanmar. I think it's ideal for couples, though I was traveling solo. The lobby is the first thing you see, and it is beautiful and inviting, with little paintings of birds up on the wall and some books laying around to pique your interest.

The rooms are large, simple, private and quiet. The bathroom is probably the highlight. It is massive, with a very creative shower that is half-indoor half-outdoor. It has this little waterfall type of spout unlike anything I've seen. Really lovely. Could spend hours in there.

The bed is nice and has the TV right at the foot in an armoire, which worked for me. There is also a little couch area.

Unfortunately, wifi doesn't really work throughout the premises, which is a pity because I require wifi constantly. Most travelers might not, but as I am often on business it is essential. So, I did most of my work in the lovely garden next to the pool. When I was there, guests were few. So, it was very quiet. The garden has a bunch of benches and tables and plenty of private places to sit. Same goes for the pool, which is sunny and surrounded by flowers and foliage.

The staff were wonderful! All locals, and all very kind and genuinely interested in guests without being overbearing, fawning or annoying. One of the men taught me how to properly tie my longyi. The food at the restaurant was also quite nice. Nothing too special, but fine for me.

The hotel also will help you organize tours or rent e-Bikes. I rented an e-Bike and had a nice time using it to go around and see Bagan. In terms of location this is not so far from anything, really. 15 minutes will get you just about anywhere. When booking a hotel you'll probably have a lot of questions about where to stay, Old Bagan, New Bagan or elsewhere... but I thought this was an ideal location.

You can see that this hotel is really striving to succeed on all fronts and has staff who really want to do well. I was satisfied with my stay and would love to come back here and stay again. I loved it. Also, the price was right!

This is a small hotel in New Bagan with perfect location to visit the temples. You will need a taxi to go to temples but you could also use the rental bikes available at the hotel if it is not too hot.
The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are large comfortable and the cement floor keeps it cooler. The pool is nice and with quite a bit of shade during the midday. Everybody is sooooooo nice!. A lady at the front desk actually took the time to go to the local market to buy a hair ornament for my wife, on her own time. Amazing.
The breakfast in the morning is good. Good place to stay while in Bagan.
