Let's start with the best aspect of the hotel - its staff. As with the rest of the country (before it goes in the same direction as Thailand), the staff we encountered at Kumudara were all a pleasure to deal with. They were more than happy sorting out air tickets, giving advice on how to go around the city, and even hopped into town to pick up some items for my friend's 'emergency', an absolutely brilliant bunch!

The room itself was a tiny bit tired but charming and clean regardless. That aside, from our standard room (USD 42/night) - the view from the balcony - temple plains would leave you very pleasantly surprised!

The hotel itself is a quite a way in from the main road (from which there weren't any restaurants /bars in the vicinity). Therefore you are at the mercy of the hotel's restaurant which was a tiny bit pricey by Burmese standard (but pretty good). You can also have drinks in the restaurant - however the general vibe of the place is very sleepy and the hotel, despite being fully booked was dead by 10 pm.

All in all, pleasant enough room, great view, good restaurant - amazing staff.

Room Tip: Standard rooms right at the back boast brilliant view.

This turned out to be a real bonus for our party of five. The site is perfect next door to temples and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the breakfast, horse cart rides, bicycle rides, and taxi service. Many food options only a walk away. No negatives about this place with very clean and well presented rooms. Agree with other posts that the management could attend to some of the handyman chores that need doing but overall a great place to stay during your time in his amazing area

While I love the upper balcony rooms, what is it with Myanmar and single beds? Perfect room, great view but lovers like to sleep together? Often, that is the point of travel (Hey! I'm no rabid twentysomething & I've been married 25 years - so there!). Otherwise, the room was great. I can't complain that New Bagan is a bit out of it, because anyone who read a review should be smart enough to know that. The breakfast was great and the staff was helpful. Great to have a cool pool after a day of biking around the magnificent but dusty Bagan. $60/night for their finest room is a great deal.

Room Tip: If you want one large bed, say so. It will not be a balcony room with a temple view however, which i...

I traveled with my mother, who returned to her home country for the first time in 33 years. Our entire Bagan trip was booked through a tour agency, Club Nomad. For a little over a $1000, three nights' stay and tour guide with driver, it wasn't a bad deal at all.

On the other hand, the stay at Kumudara was average. The balcony view was great, but what detracted from the stay was the lack of cleanliness. Our room reeked of mold. Our blankets stunk and itched, and our pillows smelled like ooold saliva. The bathroom also smelled terrible. On top of that, Kumudara didn't provide wifi, but attempted to rob customers $10 for 24-hours of wifi. They had a computer room, though, but it was first-come-first-serve.

As for food, the complimentary breakfast was good, as they provided variety, typically a different local dish everyday as well as toast, fruits, etc. However, for dinner, just because you were the only ones there, don't think for a second that your food would come out quickly. On average, my mom and I waited 30+ min. for 2 dishes, whether or not it was busy at the time. If there were anything closer to the hotel, we would've definitely grabbed dinner elsewhere.

What made the stay positive, though, was the staff, particularly the housecleaning staff. They were very friendly and accommodating, even before they realized that my mother is Burmese. She befriended a couple of the girls there on our last day, and maybe in the future, we'll come back if there were another Bagan trip.

We stayed 2 nights at Kumudara Hotel. We enjoyed our stay there. It is very well located in nex Bagan in a peaceful area. The hotel rent bicycles for a high price (around 4 US per day) compared to the others but bikes are in good conditions and it is very convenient to rent it there as once you arrive at the hotel you are ready to discover Bagan a wonderful place!!!
We arrived very early in the morning but our room was ready and we could check-in. We had a nice cottage with a terrace with a view on the swimming pool and a few pagodas. The room was clean, large and quiet. However, it was what we expected for the price even if Myanmar hotels are generally expensive compared to other countries in Asia!
The swimming pool is nice but water was cold though it was pleasant after many kilometers biking!
We were only disapointed on the breakfast below the hotel standing.
Prices are also quite expensive at the restaurant but food is good with a large choice, and the setting is nice
I recommend this hotel, you deserve what you pay (scarce in most of Myanmar hotels) and it is very well located in New Bagan.

Stayed for 2 nights in November.

Better than average quality. Nice location in the backyards of Stupas. Amazing view of hot air balloons in the morning.

Staff are very nice and try their best to please you. The restaurant however is not so nice. The breakfast is bland and includes too many local dishes which is a bit odd for an hotel which has more than 90% foreigners.

Quality of rooms and hygiene are definitely above average!

Room Tip: Ask for a room which looks over the Stupas...

nice sized room with a great view of some of the ruins. free breakfast was pretty good and helpful when u want to start a day of touring very early.

there's nothing really closeby / walking distance, so for dinner you've got to take a horsecart or hire a car, which is pricey. they rent bikes at about double the price in nyang u, but the convenience is worth it. try to stay in old bagan if you can afford it, else this isn't a bad option.

bathtub had some leaks onto the ground, which the hotel tried to fix but could not, wet bathroom floors are par for the course in this part of asia, so they didn't seem to care much. also our neighbors were crazy loud very early in the morning. front desk wasn't all that helpful when trying to map out a plan for taking on the pagodas.

Room Tip: get a view of the pagodas, our junior suite was newish and clean
