“Good stay for flashpackers”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

We recently stayed 2 nights and it was very good for what we wanted. The rooms was clean with good aircon and a nice verandah and the pool was excellent after a hot day. The breakfast was very good and was still available after we came back from our special once in a lifetime flight.[ Ballons over Bagan. - Fantastic]. The hotel also had bicycles for us to use which was good for exploring around Nyaung Oo. The markets were any easy walk from the hotel and the tourist restaurants were about a 15 min walk. The hotel has its own bakery with good meals and great fruit ice creams. Staff very friendly and helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We stayed here for 3 nights. We had a large comfortable bungalow with a veranda. We appreciated the fridge containing cold beer as we arrived very late due to a bus breakdown.

The hotel is in an excellent location and has a lovely garden and a very clean swimming pool which was a delight after a hot day exploring Bagan.

The very generous buffet breakfast was excellent, the best we had in Myanmar. There was WiFi but it seldom worked and when it did work it was so slow that it was virtually useless (like most of Myanmar).

We were able to get a horse and cart for sightseeing just outside the hotel and there is cycle hire at the hotel and other nearby locations. There are shops and restaurants nearby.

If I ever return to Bagan I will definitely stay here again.

I stayed at the Thante Hotel hotel for two nights. The rooms are pretty basic but very spacious and a haven in amongst a busy dusty town. Luckily I took the filter out of the heat pump (on the Chigo units they have the front of the unit on your wall just lifts up and you can slide down and out the two filters) Just rinse off the caked dust and put back in. This made the unit actually work.
Great pool, very good food in the almost deserted restaurant. The shower and bathroom was pretty basic, and towels a shade of mud, but given the location I doubt whether any other lodging had better. The staff were very helpful. I would certainly stay again.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was big and clean.
It was very peaceful to rest at the swimming pool (cold at this time) in the garden.
The breakfast was diverse and good but the restaurant is a big, dark and impersonal room. We did not like the live traditional music at 6am in the morning in the restaurant. So we took our breakfast on a tray to enjoy it on the terasse, this was very nice.
Helpful and nice staff.

Overall we recommend this hotel!

We're very happy we decided to stay in Nyaung Oo (instead of Old Bagan or New Bagan). This little dusty town has a bit of the Wild West in it, but the Thante Hotel is like a garden retreat to chill you out after a day wandering around the temples of Bagan.

Most of the rooms are in small cottages sprinkled throughout the grounds. There is a swimming pool and a decent restaurant (good breakfast, included with the room, in the morning). They are also able to hire you a reasonably priced car & driver to take you out to the temple zone - which is quite sprawling and, if you are like us, more easily accessed by auto instead of bicycle, scooter, or horse cart.

Bagan itself, for the casual traveller, is good for two or maybe three days max and the Thante is a good place to stay.

This is our second stay at the Thante Hotel in Bagan. Last time was in April 2013 during the Water Festival. Bagan is a magic city. Khine the hotel owner became instantly a friend. She gave us tips about what was happening in town, introduced us to a local clan so we could assist at the Shinbyu - the initiation ceremony of their two boys - and drove us around to shows us the highlights of the Bagan. This year we even planned a trip together to the remote Chin State. Thante hotel is well located next to the markets. The room a spacious and comfortable. The staff helpful and smiles to you. it is great value for money. Internet is as fast as it can be in Myanmar, it is free and available from most rooms.

We stayed at the Thante Hotel for 3 nights. It was booked through our local travel agent and we paid $55 per night for a twin, a very reasonable price for this standard of accommodation.

The location of the hotel is great - close to the airport and all the restaurants and the market of Nyaung Oo. To travel around Bagan, there are many options such as a horse and cart ($17 for a half day including sunset, arranged by the hotel), an electric bike ($6 for half a day, at the traffic circle in front of the hotel) or bicycle ($1 from the hotel).

The hotel's greatest asset is it's pool which is set in a lovely garden. This is a great place to relax after a hard day of temple spotting.

The cottages scattered around the pool are very nice, if a bit dated. The cleanliness left a bit to be desired, especially the bathrooms. Our toilet was leaking, so not only was the floor wet but it also caused a nasty odor. We reported this, but eventually moved rooms on the last day as the problem persisted. Lo and behold, another leaky loo!

Breakfast is great! The buffet includes many choices and the freshly prepared eggs and pancakes were delicious. The breakfast service starts at 6 which is very handy for early mornings. I would not really recommend the restaurant for other meals, though. There are better options around.

The laundry service is good and affordable. But make sure that they take it! My laundry was left in the bin on our last day, even though I had physically shown a member of the housekeeping staff that I was putting laundry in the bin. Speaking of housekeeping staff, they do not seem to be well managed. There are a whole army of them, yet our room was not cleaned on the second day, despite the fact that we had been out most of the day.

All in all we enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend the Thante Hotel, but keep in mind that there are a few minor details that require attention.
