The staff at my previous hotel suggested the Hotel Thante. I am very happy they did.

The staff was professional, but not stuck up. The price was fair. The room was large with a armiore and desk combination. Air conditioning that kept up with the heat of the day. Twin beds that are like almst every bed in Southeast Asia, very firm. The room was not new by any means. Maybe built in the mid 1960 (maybe not). Not s much worn as lovingly well used.

The bathroom had what you would expect. Sink toilet and tub/shower. The shower was again a step up higher than the floor to shower and precariously step down onto a tile floor when exiting. Soap and shampoo provided. No hairdryer though. The water is always hot between Six and ten, morning and evening. If you want it hot at a different time the hotel is happy to accomodate you, just ask. When they say hot water, rest assured it is hot, almost too hot.

There is no inroom safe. Instead at the front desk there are bus lockers with a key you keep and then a padalock that the hotel keeps. I felt very secure keeping my cash and other valuables in there. Heck except for the cash, I felt comfortable leaving my laptop and IPhone in the room. Not out in the open but placed out of plain sight was sufficent.

The jewel in the crown of this hotel is it's garden pool area. What an oasis ! Plenty of chase lounges to accomodate everyone. Some full sun, some shaded under the trees. The pool and environs were spotless. Snacks and smoothies were all available to be ordered from the kitchen or bakery next door.

My room was 5.021 and I thought it was perfect for my purposes in thst it had a great veranda that overlooked the pool.

When I arrived I asked for three night and later extended for a fourth. I would have extended for a fifth if the plane schedule to my next destination had been better.

Room Tip: A room around the pool area is a great place to hangout and watch the world go by

Clean, nicely appointed bungalow room with good breakfast and pretty grounds. Would stay here again. Didn't visit Old/New Bagan so can't comment but for 2 twentysomething 'flashpackers' this was a decent base. Nyuang U itself very dusty and dark at night but felt easy to wander around. Bit of a walk to 'restaurant road' (didn't help that we took the wrong road!) but not bad, just nothing immediately outside your hotel if you're bothered by that. If I was being really picky I would maybe instead consider staying on the main road (can't remember its name but has San Kabar restaurant on which we went to for an embarrassing but much needed bit of Western food respite!) as it seemed busier with more options nearby to eat/drink, pls the busier end of 'restaurant road' is that way.

We used our agent One Stop to get us a rate of $55 a room, and for this price we were happy.

The bathroom was slightly funny and old fashioned (shower curtain didn't quite wrap around so floor got wet, funny stool to stand on to get to the sink - but it was clean and did the job), but this is part of Myanmar. Only pity the beds were single (we pushed together to make a double but its not the same) - but we were hardly in the room and the hotel itself was very pretty and staff charming. We enjoyed lounging about the pool one afternoon but didn't really have time to use it much. Considering options aren't great in Burma/Bagan, I was pleased we picked Thante Hotel, just don't expect luxury!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Thante Hotel (Nyaung Oo) for a night in December last year. Arriving from Yangon via a night bus, the only option we had to get from the drop off point to the hotel was by horse-cart. The ride took about 20 minutes. In general, the hotel was located conveniently and we could get to most of the major sites by walking or a short horse cart ride.

The hotel spawned a relatively large area with a swimming pool right in the middle. Each “room” was in fact a standalone bungalow, with its own porch and toilet. While the room was large and spacious, there were some signs of wear and tear due to age. The most appalling was that we discovered BEDBUGS the morning after. Thankfully, we didn’t get too many bites.

Service was relatively good. The staff was cheerful and polite. Most spoke pretty good English too. They even offered us free pastry from their bakery while we were waiting in the reception for our night bus after we had checked out.

With the exception of the bedbugs, it was a pleasant stay.

Beautiful environment, with bungalows (several rooms each) spread around a pleasant swimming pool.
The whole compound is quite some years old, and it shows, specially on the rooms.
Nice and smiling service all over, but that is a standard in Myanmar.
Good breakfast and and perfectly acceptable and inexpensive adjacent restaurant.
All things considered It's quite a nice base for a visit to Bagan.

We recently stayed 2 nights and it was very good for what we wanted. The rooms was clean with good aircon and a nice verandah and the pool was excellent after a hot day. The breakfast was very good and was still available after we came back from our special once in a lifetime flight.[ Ballons over Bagan. - Fantastic]. The hotel also had bicycles for us to use which was good for exploring around Nyaung Oo. The markets were any easy walk from the hotel and the tourist restaurants were about a 15 min walk. The hotel has its own bakery with good meals and great fruit ice creams. Staff very friendly and helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We stayed here for 3 nights. We had a large comfortable bungalow with a veranda. We appreciated the fridge containing cold beer as we arrived very late due to a bus breakdown.

The hotel is in an excellent location and has a lovely garden and a very clean swimming pool which was a delight after a hot day exploring Bagan.

The very generous buffet breakfast was excellent, the best we had in Myanmar. There was WiFi but it seldom worked and when it did work it was so slow that it was virtually useless (like most of Myanmar).

We were able to get a horse and cart for sightseeing just outside the hotel and there is cycle hire at the hotel and other nearby locations. There are shops and restaurants nearby.

If I ever return to Bagan I will definitely stay here again.
