4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2012

The rooms were a bit basic and I really wish they had phones in them - lots of steps and a bit pointless having to walk to the restaurant to order room service - but it's more than made up for by the awesome views from the big picture windows in the rooms and private balony.

The service was very friendly and attentive to our needs, the food was delicious (although very slow to arrive in low season).

I could have just sat there and lapped up the views all day.

Room Tip: Just be aware that there are a LOT of steps to reach anywhere

Stayed 3 nights in December. For two of those nights we were the only guests, and on the third night only one other room was occupied. What is going on? How does this place survive?

Ate one night at the restuarant. We were the only customers there, so there were more staff than diners. Food was OK, nothing to write home about. Other nights we ate at the cheapie in town. Suggest eating at another of the upmarket hotels if you want more formal dining.

Hot water bottles were provided each night and were welcome.

The room price is quite negotiable.

Every part of my experience staying here was wonderful. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. The owner Keshab is what makes this place such a great experience. Everyone is so warm and friendly. The food is flavorful and really good. The rooms are large and the views are breathtaking. I would stay here over and over. The mountain views seem almost fake when the clouds clear. Definitely an experience to remember.

A good hotel. The rooms are very big. It was clean and had a lovely view from the balcony. You could see Everest in the distance when there were no clouds. No hot water was a disappointment. The food was truly excellent and well worth the money.

We (a friend of mine, my husband and I) traveled 3 weeks through Nepal. After 2 weeks travel we had wonderful 4 days (April 12th - April 15th 2010) at the High View Resort. The High View Resort is a hillside hotel and from every room you can see the Himalaya. The rooms are nice and clean. The garden is amazing - wonderful flowers - a peaceful place for relaxing. The service is excellent and the patio, where we could have our breakfast every morning is a pleasant place. The food was fantastic and we could enjoy a Tibetan dish, which was excellent and the best dinner we had in all the weeks in Nepal. From the hotel you have several possibilities for hiking - we went to Namobuddha and on another day we went to Panauti by foot. In total we had wonderful 4 days at a wonderful peaceful place. After travelling through Nepal by bus we could recharge our batteries. The owner Keshab Luitel kept our company in a very nice way. Thank you, Keshab, for everything.

We stayed for a couple of nights in Dhulikel to escape the heat and noise of Kathmandu in the summertime. The hotel is absolutely wonderfull with beautifull gardens and the best view ever. All rooms have a balcony from where you can watch the mountains in the distance and the green trees in the valleys nearby. The staff was very nice and really tried to make your stay as comfortable as possilbe. The owner was extremely friendly and spoke Englsh very well. It seems he has been to Europe to get his hotel training.
Rooms are spacious and our bathroom was enorm.
The restaurant on location is great too. You should try the Tibetan Steamboat dish!

As someone who has stayed in some fairly average hotels in the world, I can only implore fellow travellers not to stay at High View Resort. My partner and I stayed there recently for one night (against the advice of our travel agent, but based on the recent Tripadvisor review) during a five-day stay in and around Kathmandu. The hotel is in a state of complete disrepair and dilapidation, and the staff are completely contemptuous.

To keep it brief the issues are:
1) The room was unsanitary; the bathroom was filthy, the curtain in the bathroom had mould on it, the bed linen was dirty and the blankets had obviously not been cleaned for months (my partner and I slept in our clothes because it was so dirty), there was mould and damp all over the ceiling and there had obviously been no renovation at the hotel for a good couple of decades.
2) Service - no-one working at the hotel cared about the guests, despite the fact that we were the only people staying there. They were rude, dismissive and completely unhelpful; despite the fact that it was freezing cold, when we asked for a heater for our room (there was no central heating) they told us that they didn't have any. Later our guide managed to get us one from them. They had simply lied earlier.
3) The service overall was appalling. We waited over an hour to be served dinner despite there being only two other people in the restaurant (who weren't guests at the hotel, and had arrived some thirty minutes after us). In the end, so incensed were we that they simply walked away whenever we asked them when our food might arrive, that we left the restaurant and didn't have dinner at all.
4) Late into the night, some teenagers arrived at the hotel and had a party in about four of the empty rooms. We suspected they were probably friends of the staff, as they were without supervision and obviously not paying guests.

We later found out from some local people that the owner has been trying to sell the hotel for a year and so has simply let it go to ruin. Don't let it ruin your stay in the Kathmandu valley as it did ruin ours.

FYI The travel agent we booked our trip with has now cancelled all future trips to the hotel based on the feedback he received from our guide about our stay.
