“Just an OKAY”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Was there way back 2012 to celebrate my birthday. We chose Sonyas out of curiosity since we hear a lot about it.

1. Surprised that they serve the same food to everyone.
2. Ambience was nothing special
3. Over-all, just an OKAY restaurant. Nothing extra ordinary
4. We intent to have a massage after but we were surprised with their price…. horrible :) sow e went home after…
5. Hotel rooms are also pricey….

“Tourist trap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

Was surprised to find out that they didn't have ala-carte meals any more, only buffet. The price was P700 per person. A bit steep, in my opinion, for the few options they had on the buffet table.

The buffet table only had the following selections:
Main course: Fettuccini pasta with an option of fresh tomato sauce and chicken sauce with mango
Side dish: Shiitake mushrooms and ratatouille
Dessert: Banana rolls (turon) and sweet potatoes

On the table, the waiters would serve fresh greens and flower salads with many sides such as mango, cashew nuts, boiled egg, turnip, etc. And hot bread with many spreads such as anchovies, blue cheese, capers pâté, etc. There's bottomless dalandan drinks also. And finally, a slice of chocolate cake per person for additional dessert.

To sum it all up, I would say Sonya's has become another tourist trap in Tagaytay. Sure, the garden is nice but there's nothing spectacular about the food, most of them are just ok. There's something to be said about the salad dressing though and the red and white sauce for the pasta and also the dalandan juice but that's about it. For P700 per person, I would definitely think twice about coming back here.

“Simple but quality food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Went over for lunch and realized there's no a la carte but menu set. Only salad and pasta buffet style. Was not very impressed but decided to take it. Salad dressing is out of this world. Most of the items are fresh from the garden. Great meal. Not cheap though. Breads at the bakery were great too.

“The buffet is wrong”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

As far as I remember, Sonya's used to serve each menu by hands of waiters. But since one day, they started to make customers to seve themselves in buffet style

The problem with this is that the noodles and other foods are not as fresh. The noodles are dried, which makes them taste like rubber tubes. The tomato paste and other ones also taste terrible.

I wish they would change their way of serving as before. Seriously.
