My husband and I stayed in one of the suite in Marco Hotel. The room was large and tidy, the pool was wide but we have to pay for every towel we used even we check in which I dont understand because most hotels you get free towels to use once you check in. The foods in there restaurants was crap (for the flavor, for the amount of food and for the price). All in all the Marco Hotel is well overpriced for what you received. We will never go back there.

P.S. You should advice the housekeeping to smile so the guests feels welcome. The time that we were there we did not received one smile from any of the housekeeping nor did we received a reply from any of the housekeeping when we offered a goodmorning or good afternoon to them.

I have been in Cagayan De Oro City for how many times and I'll keep coming back. And as always upon touched down at the CDO airport taxi drivers will always try to out smart you by haggling transportation fare. If you already knew where to go and you have lite luggage ride jeepney outside the airport and that will only costs you 8-10 pesos, but remind you always ask the jeepney driver where you are heading into. If you want to ride taxi get one outside the airport and ask to plug down the fare meter.

It was my first time to stay at MARCO HOTEL and I had a good and bad impressions, I was traveling with friends, two of my friends decided to celebrate their birthday at CDO. Let me start with the good impressions: The hotel room was awesome perfect for big groups, it has high ceiling, made from wood and can accommodate 6-8 people for only 3200 pesos with 6 buffet breakfast. Air-conditioning is more than OK, but comfort room I would say it's not quite impressive. On top of that you can use the lap pool, hot pool and wall climbing for free.

My bad impressions: MARCO HOTEL is far away from the city and I have to agree with one of the travelers here who reviewed Marco Hotel, taxi fare is not reasonable if you re going to the city to dine-in. And of course you cannot eat always at their Restaurant; first you need to taste the native cuisine; second you want to see the city and have fun; lastly if you are ordering at Marco Hotel resto for room service they will add I think at least 20% of their resto food and drinks regular rate. And remind you that be careful ordering outside delivery because they will charge you for corkage much higher for what you've ordered.

If you are in CDO don't forget to visit TINAGO FALLS ( Iligan City ) a must see and a must experience but be there during weekends. It's worth of your penny visiting Tinago Falls. Of course white water rafting and zip lining.

Then if you like dining out try THAI ME UP it's a thai cuisine they have superb selections of thai food that will not burn your purse. CANDY'S for a cold beer, if you are considering going to KAGAYNON restaurant I think you need to think twice we've been there this trip, rating the food 10 being the highest I would say 4. I don't know what's the hype of that place but for me nothing special. There is this French restaurant La Vetta at Limketkai It's worth a visit.

But if you have limited budget you need to dine at Divisoria of CDO, food are reasonable and good.

To Recap CDO itself has it's authentic approach of beauty of nature, the locals and the City and it's worth visiting over and over it's up to you to look for the things that you wanna do it's just there to explore. MARCO HOTEL is just an icing on the cake, CDO has a lot to offer whether you in a cheap hotel or in an expensive one.

Marco hotel is only a few kilometers away from the town center, but the local transportation guys seem to think it's out in the boondocks. The airport taxi wanted to charge us 150% the normal rate to take us there and the hotel is a 100-150 peso ($2.50) taxi ride from town. We stayed in their standard cottage for PhP 1,300 per night (around $35). It sounds cheap especially considering there's a small buffet breakfast for two imputed into the rate, but after adding up all the taxi fares you will pay to get in and out of CDO you'll find that it's better to find a place to stay in the middle of town.

The pluses: large swimming pool, rock climbing wall, gym, and timely service from the staff. However, even though the pool was nice, most of the weekend they have swim classes for kids which makes it unusable for guests trying to have a quiet weekend by the pool. The staff try really hard and are generally polite, but they are just not trained well enough to deal with irate guests like me and they seem to have no manager in the place.

The minuses are many. Room is small and run-down. No in-room internet, only free wi-fi in the hotel lobby. The toilet was backed up when we got there and got backed up once again in the middle of our stay. There was no cable service on the TV the entire time we were there, they made a valiant effort for two days to fix it but just weren't able to. The housekeeping staff would leave dirty linens and towels outside the cottage most of day, this one I cannot explain. The business center, gym, and climbing wall are closed on Sunday.

We complained to the front desk staff constantly about the cable and the toilet, but they wouldn't upgrade our room to give us the cable service we paid for. Most of the front desk staff would give us blank stares and tell us they will call someone, but that never went anywhere.

All in all, not the worst place i've stayed in and one of the cheapest, but I wouldn't recommend it even to budget travelers because of its location, clueless service staff, and run-down infrastructure. You can find a better place in the city.

I made it to Cagayan for my second trip this past august 2010. The room was reasonably priced as being i stayed for 21 days we recieved a 20% discount so we got the room for around 41$ a nite. Alwys ask for a discount, more than likely they will accomodate u. The room was nice, tv worked and cable was good. Room was very clean which was nice. They had a amoire for u to put ur clothes in. We took the standard room. Twin beds were small for my fiancee and i to sleep in but no probs, we slid the beds next to each other to make one big bed. Housekeeping was very great. Everyday we arrived back to room, beds were made we had towels, toilet paper and towels were made in the shape of a blooming flower. That was soo cool. Ive never seen that before. We did have a prob with back of toilet overflowing due to a part inside breaking off but no worries a call to front desk and they were there to fix it within 15 minutes. The room came with a complimentary brkfst for two everymrn which was cool. Only prob i had was i would order two egg omlets one for me and one for my fiancee. She would just give me hers and eat something else, i guess thats why they would only make me one but we were paying for two regardless.. Hehehe i really love my eggs in the mrn. The breakfst was great and delicious. Fresh everything. The staff was trully great, wow, everyone was so helpful and friendly. They have a gym that is free for guests to use which was cool as well as aerobics class for the ladies. They also have indoor badmitton courts, and a giant indoor rock climbing facility. Swimming pool was great also, olympic size, with a hottub as well as a kiddie pool. Security guards at all the gates so it was also safe there. There were like 4 or 5 weddings and receptions while we were there so its a very nice place for weddings as well as receptions. This place was trully great . I really didnt want to leave. If u plan on staying Cagayan de Oro, this is the place to go. Oh and although they say free wi fi in rooms, u dont catch a signal in there. However, u can catch a signal in the lobby or anywhere else in the hotel, just not in the room which wasnt cool, but still that was just a minor thing that did not detract from the great experience i had. One last thing, if u plan on staying there u can contact me if u need a taxi that will bring u wherever u need to be brought while staying in Cagayan de Oro. I kept the taxi driver's cell number while i was there that my fiancee and i used the whole time we were there. Its important to make sure u have someone that is dependable as well as trustworthy while u are there that knows of sites and places to go outside and around Cagayan de Oro. He even arranged for us to go to the Maria Christina Falls in addition to driving us to Iligan to some of the falls there and also to the waterpark there. So if ur there and need his number i can of course give it to u.
