De River, right on the banks of the Mekong offers great views. During daylight hours the long tail boats zip between Thailand and the market in Laos for tourists to experience the trip whilst slow boats to china lumber past every now and then well into the night. When night comes, the opposite bank of the Mekong lights up inviting those that cannot gamble in Thailand to make the short trip it the casino... maybe tomorrow. Rooms are reasonable but getting a little tired, do get a river view, looking at the road has no plus points whilst the river view can be quite rewarding. There is a bar / restaurant in the evening and the available food has always been good, but I say available because it seems that many items on the menu are simply not available. By 9.30 to 10 pm the bar and restaurant close. This is a problem as there are no alternatives close by. Breakfast, if you are opting for the western style would be in the OK rating.
De River should have everything going for it and I think it would if it actually looked to provide an environment where guests could relax and enjoy themselves into the evening instead of being forced to take an early evening.More
