“Great Staff and and Great Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

The Anantara Golden Triangle is a special property. I felt the place was a very good value and if you love Elephants, this is the place to visit. The staff was helpful. The room was great and the grounds were beautiful. Where else can you have a view of the Mekong River and three different countries? I would visit again. Five star treatment all the way!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view, but a room overlooking the pool is even better.

I only stayed two days at this hotel and I wish I could have stayed for a week. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing. The food is surprisingly good. I can't believe one of the best Italian restaurants is in Thailand. I recommend going just for that. Great service, great ambiance, great food. The Thai restaurant is good, too, and the breakfast is decent, with something for everyone. Room service offers all the food you can get at the restaurant. The restaurants are very accommodating, for example if you want an ingredient left out that's not a problem. It's really cool to eat breakfast with a view of elephants and Myanmar in the background. Even if you don't do the elephant camp, you still get to see elephants from a distance, and it looks like you're viewing them in the wild. An elephant also comes to visit at breakfast and you can feed it. The spa is nice, not gorgeous or anything, but the treatments are very good. Really pretty infinity pool. The bar offers good service and a variety of beverages all day. Nice gift shop with lots of things to bring back. The hotel provides transportation to a lot of activities. You can do a tour of the Golden Triangle, and enter Myanmar. You can also go to an old temple dating back over 700 years and see the remains of the Chiang Saen wall. There's also the Hall of Opium, which is across from the hotel, and it's a really well-done museum about the history of drugs in the area. I didn't do the elephant camp because I'm not into it, but if you like elephants I heard it's a great experience. Rooms are spacious and attractive. Free mosquito repellent is provided. I went during the rainy season in the summer and it was wonderful because there were only five groups and we got exceptional service, so I would actually recommend going at that time. It's also nice because you get a pretty view of clouds hanging low over the mountains. The absolute best aspect of this hotel is the way guests are treated. The staff appreciate tips and you will want to tip them.

My wife and I had our honeymoon here and we were blown away by the place. The people were outstandingly warm, welcoming and helpful, the scenery was beautiful, and the hotel and decor were outstanding. Waking up with a view of elephants, riding elephants and 'swimming' with them was a childhood dream of mine and this place more than exceeded my expectations of that event.
We can't wait to come back for our next trip!

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the friend that I was planning to travel with on this trip was not able to make it so I decided to go ahead on my own. 5 days/nights in this lovely resort.

Every interaction with every member of staff, whether actual resort staff or third parties supporting the activities, were spot on. Friendly, considerate, open, patient, creative...the positive adjectives that come to mind are practically endless. I could not have felt more comfortable and looked after.

- I did 3 activities with the elephants and received my "Mahout" certificate. The experiences with the elephants were wondrous, exciting and enormously educational.
- The day trip to Myanmar and Laos was excellent, the guide was fully adaptable to whatever I was most interested in.
- The Thai cooking lesson was great fun and a lovely way to bring a new skill and the flavour of Thailand back to London with me.
- The spa was gorgeous and couldn't have been more relaxing and enjoyable.
- Many little lovely "surprises" to make you feel special and keep the experience personal.

I would also recommend going about this time of year (late May/early June), it is the beginning of the low season, so there is a bit more rain, but the resort is very quiet so the staff have even more scope for personal attention and it is very easy to arrange any activity you are interested in.

I do hope to go back some day, but in the meantime I am keeping up on what is happening with the elephants through the ThinkElephants website.

Room Tip: I had a suite (room 117) that was up towards the top - a bit of a walk, but the views were absolutel...

The Anantara Golden Triangle was a highlight of our recent two week trip to SE Asia

It was after sunset when my partner and I arrived and the Lanna-style Anantara was all lit up, twinkling with lights. All along the outdoor path to the lobby we were greeted by 'wai'ing, smiling staff members. Once inside at check in, another smiling group of welcomers served us homemade longan mousse, cold drinks and refreshing towels. Honestly it felt like a fairy tale entrance and we were the king and queen in the story. Khun Tuk, the delightful young woman in charge of activities, with whom I'd emailed before the trip, greeted us like friends and invited us to enjoy our 'home' for the next few days. If all of this sounds cloying, believe me, it wasn't -- it was genuine and warm -- in keeping with the homey feeling of the resort. Tuk reviewed our schedule with us as we enjoyed our complimentary shoulder massages (!) and detailed information about the resort, Hall of Opium, restaurant hours, etc. Afterwards, the charming Eak walked us outside and up to our spacious three country suite where we unpacked and ordered room service for dinner. Imagine our awe when we woke up the next morning, drew the curtains, and gazed out onto the river intersecting the three countries and elephants grazing in the jungle below. Magic.

The Anantara is such a peaceful, beautiful and well run resort, it would be hard to complain about anything. They staff is always at the ready with a smile, and our activities (three country tour, elephant mahout training) are now cherished memories. Meals were very good, especially the authentic Northern Thai cuisine, but our favorite was the Italian restaurant (it was so hot when we visited, the air-conditioning in there was a necessary respite for us in the evenings).

Lazy afternoons lingering at the beautiful pool were another highlight of our stay at the Anantara. Its sublime views make it one of the best 'pool' experiences I've experienced.

Note that the three country tour is best for the fun of border crossings, street markets, and the long tail on the Mekong -- nothing more culturally in depth than that, but an adventure if you've never experienced those things. The mahout training was our favorite -- riding the elephants bareback through the jungle and into the river for bath time! Playful Pepsi sprayed us both with water so many times that we were drenched! We left exhausted and exhilarated and were glad we'd scheduled our massages for that evening.

One additional thought: don't miss the Hall of Opium -- a world class museum which exceeded our expectations on every level!

I had tears in my eyes when we left the Anantara, it's just that special. I can't recommend it highly enough.

After the bustle of Bangkok this was the perfect antidote. This is a peaceful, understated hotel lodge. Service is impeccable. Rooms spacious, comfortable and well maintained. The infinity pool overlooking the elephant camp is breathtaking. Food in both the Thai and Italian restaurant was first rate. The Thai food probably the best we had, the Italian both authentic and unusual.
The elephant experiences will last a lifetime especially with our son. The private dining in the baby elephant camp was the perfect end to our stay. Also worth doing the guided tour into Burma.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the slightly larger rooms overlooking the pool, with Burma in the distance
