We wanna thank the boys at Andaman adventures for insisting on placing this hotel in our itinerary. we were very reluctant, fearing a rustic elephant camp with creepy crawlers and thin mattresses all in the name of getting back to nature. They assured us this was very different and gave us a good rate -- well never been happier to follow someone's advice over my gut feeling. This resort and the entire domain is superbly done. Great landscaping and architecture. The elephants all seem healthy and happy (very rare!) The staff is sooo attentive and considerate, its impressive. Our room was very high-class and kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Beware the location is a bit remote.

We stayed here during our honeymoon in September 2010, and made a very last minute reservation of the next day due to an absolute necessary hotel transfer (long story). Anantara was incredible in accommodating us-- making sure everything was set for the next day. As we let them know it was our honeymoon when booking, they did some things to make the stay extra special. This hotel is luxurious, but authentic. We had majestic views from our room of the jungle-y setting, which overlooks Laos and Burma. The pool was really nice-- took some of our favorite photos there. The italian restaurant was surprisingly good (which we thought was ironic, being a hotel in thailand). We loved driving the elephants and bathing them at the elephant camp-- which is a must even if you aren't staying here. We also really enjoyed the boat ride to Laos. Didn't stay long enough to experience the spa, but I'm sure it would have been nice too. Great bar/traditional live thai music in the lobby area where we hung out at night. This hotel is truly a gem and we feel fortunate that we ended up needing to switch to this resort!

Like others, I had an amazing stay at this hotel and some very memorable experiences. We stayed here around new year's and paid about US$1300/night for a suite with great views. The elephant experience was very memorable and the highlight of the stay. My partner also very much enjoyed the three rivers experience. (I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was that memorable). Service was generally great and we enjoyed ourselves.

I had two gripes about this place. First was the price. As others have said, the value was not apparent at $1300/night in high season around new years. The food was mostly fine, but not great. (The Italian restaurant was good, the buffet was not good, breakfast was not memorable.) The room was lovely, but not astounding. And, for about double the price of the Four Seasons in Hong Kong, seems like it should have been more.

My second gripe was somewhat outside the control of the hotel, but sometimes hotels need to manage these things. There was a loud and obnoxious group of American tourists at the hotel that ruined the experience of several guests. (I'm American, so I can say this freely...) I don't know what the hotel could have done -- perhaps offered them some premium drinks in an area away from other guests or otherwise bribed them to stop behaving badly. Still, it really ruined our two nights in what was otherwise a tranquil setting.

One other note is that although the hotel is physically nice, it shows that it was previously Le Meridien Baan Boran. Some of the architecture shows its 1970s chain resort heritage.

Room Tip: three country suite was very nice.

This is the best hotel I we have ever stayed at. The staff are amazing, the food beautiful but the interaction with the Elephants and their Mahouts are the highlight of the hotel. I have done quite a bit of travelling in Australia, Europe and the US and there is absolutely no better place to stay.

Room Tip: The three country view rooms are fantastic.

The Anantara Golden Triangle is a special property. I felt the place was a very good value and if you love Elephants, this is the place to visit. The staff was helpful. The room was great and the grounds were beautiful. Where else can you have a view of the Mekong River and three different countries? I would visit again. Five star treatment all the way!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view, but a room overlooking the pool is even better.

I only stayed two days at this hotel and I wish I could have stayed for a week. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing. The food is surprisingly good. I can't believe one of the best Italian restaurants is in Thailand. I recommend going just for that. Great service, great ambiance, great food. The Thai restaurant is good, too, and the breakfast is decent, with something for everyone. Room service offers all the food you can get at the restaurant. The restaurants are very accommodating, for example if you want an ingredient left out that's not a problem. It's really cool to eat breakfast with a view of elephants and Myanmar in the background. Even if you don't do the elephant camp, you still get to see elephants from a distance, and it looks like you're viewing them in the wild. An elephant also comes to visit at breakfast and you can feed it. The spa is nice, not gorgeous or anything, but the treatments are very good. Really pretty infinity pool. The bar offers good service and a variety of beverages all day. Nice gift shop with lots of things to bring back. The hotel provides transportation to a lot of activities. You can do a tour of the Golden Triangle, and enter Myanmar. You can also go to an old temple dating back over 700 years and see the remains of the Chiang Saen wall. There's also the Hall of Opium, which is across from the hotel, and it's a really well-done museum about the history of drugs in the area. I didn't do the elephant camp because I'm not into it, but if you like elephants I heard it's a great experience. Rooms are spacious and attractive. Free mosquito repellent is provided. I went during the rainy season in the summer and it was wonderful because there were only five groups and we got exceptional service, so I would actually recommend going at that time. It's also nice because you get a pretty view of clouds hanging low over the mountains. The absolute best aspect of this hotel is the way guests are treated. The staff appreciate tips and you will want to tip them.
