Very well located right in the heart of Ranong this modern hotel is pretty good value. It's a bit like sleeping in a parking garage - not a dusty old dirty thing but a posh and clean one. This concrete design means the whole place is very clattery and a bit 'cold'. The bright splashes of colour helps the eye (and the 'disco lit' toilet cistern is the best - every home should have one, particularly useful for lighting the way for the middle of the night toilet stop) but this doesn't overcome the terrible sound insulation which is the main problem. We were very unfortunate to have a group of young French guys staying in the rooms across the corridor. The door slamming, beer bottle clinking and loud talking (shouting) at sudden points until 2am did not help but that was not the hotel's fault.

We didn't use the pool, not there long enough. It's small, probably good for a cooling dip but that's about it. And the birds - the recorded track that plays incessantly from 6am to 8pm is loud. It didn't bother me too much but I'm sure it would irritate some, especially if subjected to it for long enough. We had a car and parking was no problem in their off road, shady car-park which was great given the central location

Breakfast is served at the top of the hotel. They opened the sliding windows fully and it was cool enough for me (who is an air conditioning freak) - it felt a bit like eating al fresco with a nice view. That was the best bit as the food was pretty poor. No choice - just sit down and along comes your 2 fried eggs, bacon, sausage & toast.

The staff were OK - helpful & polite enough but nothing special.

We had stayed the previous night at the Thansila just out of town. I preferred the B because of the location and the rooms - the 2 places are very different but I just preferred the more modern rooms the B offered. I couldn't have stayed more than one night though - it's a shame the noise insulation is so bad and perhaps this was so much worse for us because of our noisy neighbours. That was the only problem.

Room tip: You don't hear the bird recordng as much in the rooms at the back of the hotel (away from the car park). Avoid the ground floor rooms as the corridor is a walkway between the bar and reception.

This is a most unusual and yet very nice hotel. The design is modern and as trendy as they claim with a blend of polished concrete walls with some bright and angular fixtures and fittings and themed trimmings around the name of the hotel which is, for example printed on the bottom of the very good if small roof top pool. The lighting throughout the hotel is clever, colourful and funky and even the transparent toilet cistern changes colour with internal and ever changing lights!
Breakfast was fine if not gourmet and they tried hard with a set Western breakfast. Staff are young and also try hard although English is a little limited. We would certainly not agree with previous reviewers who considered them unhelpful.
For the money this is a good, clean and unusual hotel with the only complaint we had being that the outside lift is very noisy in some of the rooms...but doesn't thankfully seem to be used much.
We tried to rebook on our return leg...but they were full!

Stayed here on a visa run. One of the best hotels in the area, and far better than the over priced Tinidee which is close. Very clean rooms, nice pool and family friendly. Service was pretty good apart from the guy in the bar who seemed to think it was his own front room and just turned the Tv over at his own enjoyment while we were watching it (he was checking the football scores) but i guess this is Thailand and guests do not usually come first.
Well situated amongst the nightlife so no need to go out in your car.
Apart from the Barmans front room and noisy birdlife at night not a bad hotel.

Ranong is a completely non-touristy town. Surprisingly it has the finest selection of New Generation Hotels in the south of Thailand: Le Sarin Chalet, Luang Poj Boutique Hostel, Numsai Khaosuay Resort, Pathu Resort, Thansila Resort -- all of them beautiful and attractive, each one with its own character. For my visa runs I stayed in each of them already, at bargain prices hardly found anywhere else in the south of Thailand.
But the top choice is the very new The b Ranong Trend Hotel. In the first moment I was shocked about the extremely modern design with gags like changing colors in the bathroom water tank and towels decorated like crabs or rabbits. But then I felt the great atmosphere and nearly perfect ambiance so that I did not want to leave. Yes, there is that bird noise from the loudspeakers in the old cinema, and sound insulation is not a strong point, but the decoration in the public areas, the friendliness of the staff from the receptionists to the waiters in the bar on the roof, the view over the city from the pool area...
All this for a super deal of 800 Baht (without breakfast) in a standard room all of which are painted in different colors.
The hotel is situated right in the entertainment area with bars and restaurants, which has nothing to do with the bar business in Phuket or Ko Samui.
Highly recommended is the Restaurant and Bar "Sophon's Hideaway", just 200 metres away. All live music bars in the vicinity are friendly and relaxing.

Room tip: Try to get a bargain rate for one of the two the suites which are actually a larger room with some seating furniture. And yes, the rooms away from the old cinema have no noise from the bird sound loudspeakers.

We unfortunately didn't find out about the B until after we arrived to Ranong ahving booked real basic accomodation -as all the other hotels looked tired and depressing I decided I'd rather save the money for our next stop. But the B is a great stop, it was about £20 a night when we were there which is a bargain!

It's fairly new I think and there weren't many people when we went, we paid £14 for two people to use their rooftop pool all afternoon (after a visa run) and had it all to ourselves.

Great hotel in a real Thai town, not much to do for tourists but get involved in the markets and check out Myan Mar
