My husband stayed in this hotel nearly 20 years ago and is has been renovated and renamed The Singora in the last 2 years. We checked in on 19th Nov 2010 for 3 nights.
On the outside,it looks good,nice,clean and the uniforms are very Thai. Unfortunately, we have to open our own doors even though there was a door man around. When we came back to the hotel after 9pm, the staff were watching TV or chatting in a corner.
We have enlisted the help of a friend who lived there to book the hotel on our behalf and no credit card guarantee was needed. It was booked at 1100 baht per night for a double room and when we checked in, we were told the rate was 1100 Baht including breakfast which was fine.
The room was clean and tidy though it is not a big room and the toilet was tiny. Somehow, it was a family room that was allocated. We stayed for 3 nights but there was no make up room services other than the 1st day.
When we ran out of toilet paper and informed the Reception on our way out, they simply put a roll of of the toilet paper in our room.I was surprised as usually,the housekeeping would put it on the toilet roll holder in the toilet.
Breakfast was a mixture of western and Thai.Almost the same daily, buffet style - consisting of fried eggs,wafer thin ham and tiny sausages,stir fried noodles/rice or rice porridge,stir fried minced chicken in basil,etc. The food such as the fried eggs is cold and the others lukewarm despite being in a warmer as the buffet table is directly under the aircon.
We sent our washing to the laundry services, 3 shirts,2 jeans,2 underwear and 2 pairs of socks came up to nearly 800 baht and 1 pair of socks is missing.
The nightmare was during the checkout. We were charged 1300 Baht as we were given a family room, the 3 local calls we made for a total of 4 minutes was 170 baht,there was no proper invoice,everything was calculated through the calculator in front of us even though they have computers. One of the staff even tried to charge us for 4 nights instead of 3 as she herself counted the nights wrongly, We paid cash of course after all these dodginess.
There seems to be only 2 staff throughout the hotel who can speak reasonable English so they were not helpful in giving advice and information.
Unless you are firm with them and have everything in black and white,do not stay in this hotel
