The beach and its surroundings is nice to visit as a day package. As usual, the mermaid is the main attraction. Do be careful when climbing up the statue for photos as it can be slippery.

The Golden Mermaid is the symbol of Songkhla. Its situated on a nice part of Samila beach and is visited by both locals and tourists.
Many leave flowers at the statue and climb up to have their picture taken with the Mermaid.
Local folklore has it that if you stroke her it will bring you good luck.
It is mainly symbolic but worth taking the trouble to view.

Samila Beach has a nice beach and promenade for walking along and along that promenade are various statues of different things, but by far the most popular one was the mermaid statue down on the beach, its easy to find just follow all the people, you then have to wait in line to have your picture taken sitting on the mermaid, but with a nice blue sea as a backdrop its worth the short wait.
There are many small stalls along the prom for the usual souvenirs and various food sellers as well, worth stopping for lunch as there are also some nice restaurants on the beach.

Quite easy to find the landmark along the stretch of the beach.
Due to the popularity, you'll see lots of tourists queuing up to take pictures with the statue.
The novelty sort of wore off after a while.

You'll see more attractive sights (families having picnics, peddlers with unique clay souvenirs, coconut ice cream, etc) around the area.
