“BEST IN IXTAPAN”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

We have been in this hotel several times. Their quality standard is always at the same level (which is ok for the rates paid). Rooms are spacious and clean. Public areas are taken care of very well. Breakfast is very good.
The spa is in good condition and very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel and it's spa.

We were very well taken care of at this lovely property. It has a nice mix of traditional and new, rustic and modern, and the staff was amazing! Everyone from the banquet team, housekeeping, front desk were very personable and quick to respond to any request. It really had the feel of old, quiet Mexico in all the best ways. The food options, presentation, and flavor were what you dream of when you go to Mexico. Well done!

We stayed this past week-end at Marriott Ixtapan. The drive from Mexico City is about 90 minutes if you take the cuota (paid highway). You can now take the cuota all the way (although our GPS indicated that we had to take some other roads near Toluca!). The hotel was very quiet when we stayed there as Mexican summer holidays does not start till mid-July. Our kids (6 and 8) loved the pool by the pirate ship. The pool temperature was fine during the day, but as soon as the sun started going down, or when it was cloudy, we found it too cold (even though the pool is heated). There is another pool indoors and heated and open late, but it is small and was very crowded even when the hotel was nearly empty. The food was ok. Our kids specially liked the burgers by the pool (about $10). We had a room on the highest floor, but the view was not great. The biggest problem for us was lack of water pressure when taking showers. The hotel offered to move us, but when we checked the other rooms, they were not much better. We also had a few earwigs in the room (saw 2), but we are used to them, so did not bother us. There is a good kids club (go cart, etc), but there is an extra charge. There is also a good tree house that our kids loved. Rooms are spacious, but there was no fridge in the room (nor coffee maker!). There is a safe. There is valet parking (about $10), but we also noticed some people were just parking on the street outside for free. The town itself (Ixtapan) is nice for a walk, especially near the church and zocalo. There are lots of restaurants and taquerias on the main street direct acrosss from Parque acuatico, but also a few better ones nearby. We liked Pugo better than Firenze (but Firenze -closed on Mondays- is good for pasta). The town is well located for day trips to the caves (there are two, with the bigger one about an hour away, but not recommended if it rains heavily). We also went to Zoofari (about an hour away) and it was a great place (160 pesos adults and 140 children), but nowhere to eat there or nearby. Overall, there is enough at the hotel, in the town and nearby to keep the children and the adults entertained for a week-end get away. And the hotel itselt is certainly great value (we found the best rate on their own website).

We stayed at the Marriot recently.
It's a great option for a weekend with kids.
There are 3 family pools, one of them with a great pirate ship that is great for kids.
The temperature of the water is ok, even though the weather was rainy.
The Tecilli Spa brings a delicious and great experience. I took the Tierra Masage of 50 minutes, I experienced a relaxing time.
The staff in general is kind, warm & friendly.
The food is average in general.
In my opinion, the hotel should focus in changing:
1)the shower of the bathtub.
2) the mats of the chair deck by the pool.
3)in the spa the carpets must be change, it will look cleaner with floor tile or wood floor.
4) the Spa Menu had spelling mistakes.

I think this hotel was amazing. I was there in the off-season so it was quiet and nice. It was an incredible value, surprisingly cheap. The lobby and conference rooms are huge and very nice. The staff was a little short when I was there, but it was so slow I can't say I expected a lot else. The restaurant and bar were very nice, and the room service was good. This hotel is definitely more for Mexican's than tourist based on location, so you should have some basic spanish or you might have a hard time communicating. English was the most common second language, and a few people spoke great English. My high school spanish classes were enough to get me by though :)

The rooms are huge, and very nice, bathrooms nice, tv's nice. Grounds were immaculate, and the views were stunning in the morning at sunrise (well all times were nice, but sunrise was special).

I think it was a great place and would stay again.

I see several complaints about Internet, but all full Marriott hotels have fees. However, the hotel was so cheap it's not a big deal. And if you have status (I'm Marriott gold) then the internet is free anyway. I am someone who rely's on Internet for work, and I would rather pay to have fast internet, than have every room connecting and bogging it down anyway. So I thought the internet was great.

I have had the opportunity to travel to several countries, for business reasons and with good experiences in general, however for family vacations, the service from the people of the Marriott hotel in Ixtapan de la Sal exceeded my expectations.
Since we arrived, the reception manager, Gerardo was attentive to make us feel special. Thanks to the manager of the Restaurants and Bar, Pablo Lopez, who was always looking to satisfy our whims and delighting us with excellent food and variety.
Samuel and Mauricio as part of his team personally taking care of our son on Valentine’s Day so my wife and I could spend an amazing evening.
Suitable for children because of all the attractions such as Go-Karts, pools with water slides, games room, The Jungle, cinema, etc. etc.
Our favorite place from now on to return again and again.

This is a beautiful and hotel built on a rugged hill side with beautiful gardens and pools. The rooms are large and nicely furnished. We were the only Americans at the hotel and we had a great time. There was a struggle at times with English but we were able to help staff members with their English and in turn they helped us with our Spanish. We ate the majority of our meals at the hotel and mainly in the Orange Restaurant. The Orange is Managed by Victor Najera who speaks very good English and is constantly working with his staff to make sure that everything is done correctly. We would like to complement his staff, Adan, Rosa, Mauricio, Eloy, Oscar, Maribel, Jory and Victor Hernandez on the outstanding service they provided in the Orange. Luis, at the front desk was very helpful in helping us confirm our bus trip back to Mexico City and speaks good English. We met the Hotel Manager, Eugenio Herrera, on our last day and realized the hospitality at this hotel starts at the top. He cares about the guests, the staff and the hotel and it shows in the way everyone treats you and each other. When we have an opportunity we will be back the Marriott Ixtapan de la Sal. We had a great time and wonderful experience. It is a property that everyone should visit.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms overlooking the mountains can be noisy because they also overlook the pool.
