“It's all about Olga”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

Missed the boat to Caye Caulker and got stuck in an otherwise uninteresting town. Enjoyed our stay here mostly due to the great host and owner, Olga. She had drinks with us well into the night and treated us to snacks and pizza. Such a warm welcome. Much appreciated. Rooms are basic and clean and value is average. Tasty breakfast included with your stay. If you want budget accommodations in Chetumal , stay here!

Room Tip: Go with a private room.

Offers simple, clean rooms and dorms for an easy stopover in Chetumal. A good kitchen is provided with all utensils. Simple but good breakfast included. Friendly family run place. Take a taxi from the main bus station or port as this place is a short distance away by cab. Be patient...the taxi driver will find it eventually.

I stayed here for one night en route to Belize from Playa del Carmen. The hostel is in a quiet, safe, middle class area about a 20-30 minute walk from the center. There isn't a ton to see and do in Chetumal itself, but it is definitely a nice place to rest and regroup in the middle of the long bus trip between the Riviera Maya and most tourist spots in Belize.

The hostel itself was pretty quiet--there were only a few other people staying there that particular night. It's family owned, and the owners spent most of the evening watching TV in the common room. There is a nice outdoor porch on the second floor near the room where I was staying. Wifi was kind of inconsistent--I usually had to go downstairs or sit in the hall to get it.

The included breakfast was a cut above most hostel breakfasts. Aside from the usual bread/butter/jam and coffee/tea, we each got two eggs to cook as we saw fit. I didn't do any cooking aside from that, but the kitchen was pretty well stocked.

Overall, a nice place to stay for a night or two.

It's quiet, there's a good kitchen, free drinking water but the Wifi barely works and there's no hot shower and we never saw the "free breakfast" but that may be because we left early in the morning. Also, our bathroom could have used a bit of a cleaning. This hostel tells you that it's 50 pesos for a taxi from the ADO station to the hostel but it should be 20. Even if you're leaving at 6:20 am (to catch the 7am bus to Belize City from the ADO station) it'll still only be 20 pesos for a taxi to the station even though the hostel owner will tell you 50 pesos.

Arrived at the Posada with a total group of three, we were instantly welcomed and given a room. We were in a mixed dorm and although the rooms had a ceiling fan and the windows were open, it was still a bit hot in there. After a couple beers the sleep was no problem. This hostel is perfect if your crossing the border in to belize or guatemala, although you do need to take a taxi from the bus station and to the ADO it is less than 20 Pesos so no complaint there.
The family that owns it is very friendly and know good english as well. The only two down side's are: not many restaurants that we could find in the town, although a supermarket is around the corner and you can cook in the shared kitchen, and that there is only one shared bathroom which was inconvenient at times but would be a lot worse with more people. The wifi was fast and like everyone said a flat screen tv. We stayed on new years and were drinking outside on the patio, playing instruments and singing along till pretty early in the am and no one seemed to be bothered, so good drinking atmosphere too!
Would reccomend two stay a max 2 nights only because I really hated the city and was just passing through to Belize.

Very clean hostel, nice large shower and private bathroom. The beds were a little hard but nothing terrible no springs or anything. The dorm room had a fair amount of bunks but was still rather roomy.

Breakfast was good 2 eggs and a nice bun and a banana fair for a free breakfast. Nice that you cook it your self so there's no rush to hop out of bed.

Adorable little dog and friendly helpful staff. We were headed to caye caulker after and he called ahead and made a reservation for us with out even waking us. Thank goodness or we wouldn't have made the boat.

Stayed here in Late July and, although it was almost empty, the place was clean and the staff extremely friendly, helping book my boat across to Belize for the next day and offering tips for local restaurants. Breakfast was DIY, but I had an excellent omelette with fruit and toast, so no complaints there.

Unknown to me at the time I left 3 unstamped postcards in a book I exchanged. Two months later they arrived at their intended destination and I can only assume it was the staff who sent them on. An extremely kind and selfless act, for which I am so grateful
