Victorian Luxury Condominiums
Reviewed 9 June 2009

I stayed here 8 days with my husband and child for a bit of R&R. The property comprised of three completed condo buildings with one more being finished. Flora and fauna were being planted when we arrived at the rented condo (from VRBO) and all of the pictures perfectly depicted the condo so there were no unpleasant surprises. We stayed in a spacious two-bedroom, two-full bath, two story penthouse condo with lovely ocean views of the beach. The condo was beautifully finished with warm tile floors, granite counter tops in the kitchen and very nice bathrooms. The layout was open and contemporary with the first floor comprised of the dining/living room kitchen (no air) and one bedroom (with air). The condo had high ceilings throughout so you never felt claustrophobic. The condo was decorated tastefully and had lovely towels, wash cloths and beach towels and as well as dishes. There were two balconies, one on each level and the top level comprised exclusively of the master bedroom/bathroom (with air) with a huge walk-in cedar closet. We enjoyed our stay immensely, despite extraordinarily minor gaffes. The staff were very hard-working folk and the condos were cleaned daily and assigned a specific housekeeper. All of the staff were very pleasant to us and we enjoyed our stay so much that we wished we had booked a longer vacation.
The pool was small but adequate and looked directly onto the beach. The sound of the ocean was all one heard all day and all night long. All of the buildings are beachfront, and the thoughtful design of the condos allow all residents to enjoy the view. Although construction was ongoing, the roar of the ocean was so loud, we were never disturbed.
This location is just outside the main drag and is about a 10-15 minute walk or a 1 minute car/motorcycle ride away.
The beach is long and one can walk for a long time and still not reach the end. There is a lot to do on the island--dune buggy rides, horseback riding on the beach so one can stay as busy as one wants.
I highly recommend this property and visiting this absolutely beautiful island. Make sure you shop at souvenir shops that have the prices on the merchandise, otherwise you will be ripped off.

First of all do not deal with Amber Gaurdian (their services are being removed from other hotels in area also), they do not deliver what they promise.
Room was unfinished, with no curtains in living room or bathroom, therefore robbing of us any privacy.

Had continuous problems with the toilet, it would not flush, so had to open lid and flush manually which is a disgusting thing to have to do, especially on holidays. They sent a plumber, after a day it did not work again, he put a too large part in, so second time he put right size peice in. Worked fine for awhile, but was soon back to opening lid again, as a result I the lid was dropped and broke, but we went good on it, and purchased a new toilet, (no doubt a scam in the first place). Near the end of our stay, the toilet would not even flush. (one month, we were booked for four, but could not stand dealing with these people and empty promises anymore, so we gave notice of vacating).
It says on the sign up front that there is internet, NOT!. We were then promised internet, it took them 3 weeks to deliver, the day we left, and it was cable at that, no wireless. Also it says back up generator, no such a thing, oh there is one, but it does not work, at least not instantly, if power went out, and it did quite frequently, it took at over an hour to come back on. This happend on many occassions, so one was left sitting in the dark.
I have to say the place has potential, but not with Amber Guardian as the property management. Spoke to many owners and they felt the same way, and had a meeting of owners, and got the right to have a say. As I said this outfit is getting the boot from other resorts that have been using them, but they too are not happy with their service.

I would suggest using Hispaniola Real Estate, (Bigi, who on our anniversary last year sent champagne, cheese, and crackers, right to our villa, very classy), as we had great service from them in the past. Or Josefina Covents, have always had extremely excellent service from her group of employees.
I would not recommend the owners of Amber Guardian to my enemy.

This review is not about the property, it is about the old management company. The visit happened at a time when the complex was still under construction. The management company the reviewer had so many problems with has not been involved with the management of the complex since shortly after the reviewer's visit, (they were replaced by the developer before construction was completed) and The Victorian is an attractive, comfortable, secure, very well maintained complex with reliable electricity and internet, which is as good as you can find in this country (which is certainly not up to the standards of many first world countries)

The condos are all individually owned, and there is some condo to condo variance, but but if you look at the bulk of the reviews here, you will get a fair idea of what the complex is like now. It is a wonderful place for your Caribbean vacation - sun, sea, sand, palm trees, comfort and much more. A great place for you and your family!

You couldn't ask for a more perfect spot...far enough from the hustle and bustle of Cabarete (1km), but close enough to enjoy its laid back energy and fun spirit (an easy walk along the beach or a quick taxi ride). The condo was new, spacious, spotless, well-appointed and comfortable. The on-site staff was friendly and helpful. We always felt safe and "at home". And, the view from the third floor balcony at sunrise will put your heart at peace with the world.
