My husband and I stayed at the Watermark for only one night, which was a shame. This hotel is beautiful. It has amazing views of the Kite Beach, so I sat on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoyed the free show and warm breezes.

Our room was on the 3rd floor. They have an elevator, so bringing up luggage was no problem. The room had 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen, and wifi. The balcony is large with nice furniture both inside and out. The pool was very nice too - although no one was using it.

My husband and I did walk home from the beach bars one night. I wouldn't recommend doing this. Although it wasn't too long of a walk, it was way too dark in some parts. If you want to walk...walk when it is light enough down to the beach bars...then take a taxi back to the Watermark.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms would be perfect. I was on the 3rd floor - and it was lovely.

It is good to be home. I love Watermark from the spacias and luxurious rooms to the absolutely incredible beachfront view. Everyone here is happy, friendly and always makes us feel so welcome. Beautiful pool and two hot tubs on the roof. Kite Beach comes alive with the kite surfing and it is a really lovely walk on the beach to Cabarete. Lots of beach bars and restaurants in walking distance, too. Life is good at the beach.

Room Tip: All suites are oceanview

There were many things to love about Watermark. We stayed in the penthouse and the views of the kiting right in front of our spacious, well furnished balcony were great. The beds and linens were very comfortable, and the 2 bedroom condo was large and well laid out with high quality A/C throughout. It was fantastic to be right on kite beach as we could watch the weather and wind and be right there on the beach in a minute when it started to blow.

We took the motoconchos (motorbike taxis) whenever we wanted to head into town for the restaurants, and a couple of times we hiked to town on the beach. Although it is a bit of a distance to the center of Cabarete, the Watermark location was well worth it for the kiting. There are also several good restaurants located adjacent to Watermark right along kite beach, for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

There were a few things at Watermark that did not quite meet our expectations, considering we paid top dollar for the penthouse condo. We decided to lower our expectations, knowing that the DR is a less developed country, and thinking that perhaps we should not expect amenities to be on the same level as they might be at home. We didn't want these small glitches to spoil an otherwise great vacation.

The wifi did not work, so our warm and friendly concierge Yesenia tried to help as best she could. She gave us an ethernet cable that allowed us to use our laptop in the condo. But we could not use our ipad or iphones on wifi for the duration of our visit and there didn't seem to be anyone available to repair the wifi in our unit. We decided that perhaps it was divine providence, that we were meant to be just a bit more off the grid for the duration of our vacation.

The second issue was with the plumbing. The marble bathrooms and fixtures are all beautiful to look at, but the water pumps for the building got clogged and we had no water for part of one day. And it wasn't until our second day that we discovered that the hot water heater in the condo gets turned off in between guests. We had arrived on a Sunday and no one instructed us on the need to manually turn on a switch for the hot water. We assumed it was broken and took cold showers before heading out to dinner. Fortunately, the staff returned on Monday and they explained how to work the hot water heater. It would have been much nicer to have been introduced to this information upon check in. And once the hot water was on, it was quite limited, just enough for one person to take a brief hot shower. Well, at least we were in the tropics!

Overall, we loved Cabarete after meeting many warm, friendly, local people. And the beach, the weather, the kiting and some trips to the canyons, rivers, and mountains with Iguana Mama were unforgettable. I will definitely come back to Cabarete, but I am not sure if I would stay at the Watermark on my next visit. I'll have to think about that a bit more before deciding.

Room Tip: There are eight 2 bedroom units on four floors, all laid out similarly and the same size. The first floor units have the advantage of being right on the pool level, and the 4th floor units have the best views from up high.

Stay at Watermark Hotel for the amazing views and comfortable accommodations.

The hotel is the most comfortable I've staying in while in the Dominican Republic. The bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen are luxurious, though if you are looking to do cooking for a big group of people the kitchenware is lacking.

The ocean views, with a bay full of kiteboarders in the afternoon, were gorgeous. There always seemed to be a cool breeze blowing that made the A/C unnecessary and kept the bugs away.

The major downside was that the main drag of Cabarete, "El Centro", with beach-side restaurants is a long walk down the beach (40 minutes).

Additionally, it also seems like the most expensive property in Cabarete. We reserved without hearing back from some of the other hotels (response times are longer than in other places), and would up paying probably 20 - 30% more than some comparable properties.

Room Tip: Rooms seem fairly standard in terms of layout, so the main difference is in which floor you stay on. The fourth floor has the least obstructed views.
