“Very relaxing!”
Reviewed 18 June 2011

My boyfriend and I just returned from a trip to the DR, where we stayed in Santo Domingo and Cabarete. The country is a little hectic (which was to be expected), and Natura Cabana was a wonderful retreat from all the craziness. We stayed in the Piedra Cabana, which was so nice and had everything we needed. It was great to have a fridge and a little stove so we were able to eat lunch on the cheap and keep our beers cold for after the beach. Our favorite part of the day was coming back from kiteboarding for an afternoon swim on the beautiful private beach and then sitting on our awesome porch to relax before dinner. The food at the restaurant is wonderful, and our waiter Arolfo (sp?) was so so friendly, as was all the staff. Everyone is multi-lingual and very helpful.

I took one yoga class while I was there which was great, but it was difficult to swallow the $20/class price. Nonetheless, I think it's an awesome service they provide, and being in the "open-air yoga temple" facing the beach pretty much makes it worth it (the teacher is very good too, and handles teaching to varying levels well).

The only recommendation I would make with regard to this hotel is that if you are going to stay there, you should probably rent a car (which I would do in Puerto Plata). We did feel like if we hadn't had a car we would have felt a little isolated.

Overall we had a fantastic experience here and would definitely consider staying here again!

Room Tip: Make sure to get a cabana with a great porch!

We found Natura Cabanas by chance on the Internet. We wanted a nice play to stay in DR, but not an overwhelming resort; we wanted a place with character and comfort. We found all that and more at Natura Cabana. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us like royalty and family, a rare combination. The location is terrific: the beach is relaxing and as uncrowded as one imagine; and the cabanas themselves are gorgeous, comfortable and inspire total relaxation and happiness. Cabarete and Sosua are within a quick taxi ride, so you can easily head to town if you need to. We cannot wait to return.

Lovely resort, very quiet and comfortable. Good facilities with two restaurants/bars, yoga and spa and own private beach and pool.

Situated in a safe, enclosed area - only a short, 10min drive away from Cabarete and Sosua towns.

The staff are very helpful and charming - they made our holiday special.

Tips: Avoid the all inclusive resorts and try something different, like Natura Cabana. Explore the island (you can rent a car for US$40 p/d) and mingle with the locals, the Dominicans are lovely people. The food in general can be a little average (watch where you eat!), but there are some good restaurants - I highly recommend Nikki Beach and Miro in Cabarete. It's best no to go out alone at night (specially if you're a girl as the boys are pretty keen over there :) ) and avoid the public taxi service - they can be pretty dangerous; instead use the tourist/private taxi service which will cost you a fraction more but it's worth it.

Our family of five...three adults and two teenage daughers thoroughly enjoyed our week at Natura Cabana. Overall the service was lovely...from main reception to waiters, cooks and housekeeping. Non intrusive but very welcoming and helpful with sight seeing logistics. Two restaurants on site are quite good and all you need but there is also a small store at entrance to adjacent neighborhood for extra water, snacks etc. Cabarete restaurants (lots of beach dining) are a short taxi ride (or a 1 1/2 hour adventurous walk) for a nice change of pace and scenery. The cabanas are well built, highly individualized and beautifully decorated. The grounds well kept and full of small community spaces. The yoga "temple" is truly amazing and the instruction was most excellent! Be aware it does cost $20/class and is open to cabin quests as well as the local community. Generally a great place for romantic getaway or a wonderful place with young children (pool, swing set, treehouse) and teenagers who like to beach and read or play in the surf. There is a surf school a short walk down the beach as well as horse back riding available. Also a fantastic golf course (one hour taxi) which at this time is largely deserted due to the affiliated hotel being closed. However, if you are an avid golfer, it is known as "the "pebble beach of the DR" adn well worth the drive.

I traveled with my two teenage daughters and wanted a bonding vacation, one where we could relax and just enjoy each others company. The surroundings at Natura Cabana captivated us, the warmth of the staff enveloped us, and the calm serenity turned us into mush. Thankfully, the yoga classes kept us strong mentally and physically as we enjoyed each day.
Our room(s) were beautiful, and fun to live in. We felt like we were living on Gilligan's Island, at times we had miles and miles of beach to ourselves-and this-during spring break! Like you, I read other reviews and wondered how it was possible for one resort to have so many highly ranking reviewers. The reviews are all true. Don't worry about weather or bugs, don't worry about food or shelter-all are great here. Bring your kids, or your spouse, or just yourself.
Natura is a bit of heaven on earth.

This is our second stay at Natura Cabanas - we were there two years ago and could not wait to get back. This time, we brought 4 friends. Our cabanas were Playa (two double beds, two twin) and Africana (4 double beds in two rooms, each with huge bath and closet). We had stayed in Playa before, so we knew what to expect, but Africana was a beautiful cabana with the lounge are and kitchen in between the two rooms, covered with the same roof, but essentially outside. Just gorgeous - every detail is lovely and appropriate in these lodgings, and every cabana is completely different. The finishes are all local and incorporate everything from slate to coral to woven materials and textiles. The rooms are large and roomy with closets and dressers - plenty of storage space. I want to stay in all of the cabanas!
We all took advantage of the spa treatments and, with some notice before we arrived, the hotel was able to arrange for two masseuses to be available for us so that everyone could get massages, facials, et al. on the same day. The spa is very clean, and every treatment is professionally applied. The hot rock massage was wonderful!
I find this hotel to be quite the bargain given the quality of the service and the restaurants. The price is $130 per person, $90 for 2, less for 3, etc. per room. For families with children (or adults on a budget), the twin beds in some of the rooms are perfectly adequate - they are memory form on a platform and quite comfortable.
The restaurants are both delightful and surprising - the variety and quality is outstanding. I don't think I can find better at home, and I live in a city proud of it's food. There are two small restaurants on each property. The first is the breakfast/lunch area - breakfast is included with your stay, and it includes coffee or tea, fresh eggs prepared any way, fresh fruits, a bread basket of fresh local breads - wheated, seeded, marbled and egg breads all soft and warm, honeys and preserves, and different offerings every day - one day we had "Dominican Breakfast" - young plaintains mashed and pan fried with onions. The plantains are not mature so they are not sweet and tasted much more like potatoes. Delicious. Great variety here at lunch time as well - fresh fish perfectly prepared, and sandwiches with great combinations. Filet mignon with humus and peppers, tuna and egg with capers. These were about $7.50 US.
The evening restaurant was outstanding - from the wine list to the specials. The food was exquisite - scallops wrapped in Spanish ham, black risottos that melt in your mouth, lobster perfectly prepared - not rubbery and chewy (a feat with the crribbean variety), a round, tender filet that you couldn't beat in Dallas or Chicago fresh vegetables like snap peas and tiny tender potatoes the size of cherry tomatoes. Everything is grown locally and the salads were also varied and delicious. The Chef is most recently from Spain and his desserts stood up to the best of his entrees. Creme de Catalonia - a brulee with a hint of orange, or panna cotta topped with a berry puree that was creamy and delicious. Our dinner with two bottles of wine, salads, entrees and dessert was about $50 per person.
This property is adjacent to a large beach, and we were actually surprised to find that it was swimmable this time. Last time we were there the surf was quite large and it seemed to be a dangerous place to get in the water, but our weather was better this time around, and we saw many people in the water - not deep, but deep enough to get cooled off. There is a pool and a play area for children on the property as well. You can hear the surf from every room - it's lovely at night.
Nothing was poorly done at this hotel. From the in room toiletries (l'occitane) to the friendly accommodating staff, it is impossible to find fault. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet place to recharge your batteries, I would recommend it completely. This is not a place for partiers or possibly even teens (unless they're looking for a yoga/spa retreat) - if you're looking for nightlife, you would be better served by looking in Cabarete proper. There are no televisions or telephones on the property, and the lighting in the cabanas is very low. The trade winds year round make air conditioning unnecessary and there is none available. There is wireless service in the day time restaurant and the reception sitting area if you need it, and there is plenty of scalding hot water if you turn on your eco water heater about an hour before you need it.
I can't wait to go back!

We arrived and checked into our room. Can't remember exactly which one it was, but it had a very strong wet mildewy smell. We approached the manager, who immediately accommodated our request and allowed us to change cabanas to a much nicer one next to the swimming pool and swings and a nice deck. They helped us get a rental car that was delivered to us, which we ended up using for the entirety of our stay. They made recommendations on other restaurants and attractions. They helped us work out an issue obtaining pictures and a DVD of our dolphin swim at Ocean World. Any time we needed help, the staff at Natura Cabana met or exceeded our expectations.

Relaxational highlights for my wife were massages at the spa and yoga; for me it was the excellent food, lots of El Presidente, and the people we met during our stay. Most notable of all was the incredible dinners we had every night at Natura Cabana. Giancarlo, the chef of the restaurant at Natura Cabana, has a limited set of tools and only fresh local food to choose from. Yet every single night he totally killed it! Near the end we just kept ordering the tasting menu. Both in terms of presentation and taste, everything Giancarlo served us was at the level of the very best restaurants I've ever been to where we live in Manhattan (e.g., all of Danny Meyer's restaurants, Per Se, Le Bernardin, etc.). Nothing we had on the island during our stay came anywhere close to Giancarlo's cuisine.

In general, staff excellent, diverse yet mellow group of interesting people staying, and the hidden gem highlight that I recommend to all who like to eat good food during their vacations is dinner at Natura.
