Stay in the apartments in the main building, not in the bungalows behind the pool. They are much nicer and quieter. Great location just steps from the beach, stores and restaurants. Cleaning lady was rude but that's probably because she was working on new years day. Overall worth the prime location.

Room Tip: Stay in the apartments!!

So, this place was pretty cheap, only a 2 minute walk from the beach. The rooms were okay, nothing to brag home about, and my particular room had an adjoining balcony. The sliding glass door for this room had no lock so I had to pray no one would enter my room and steal my things. There's tons of young (17-20) prostitutes in this area, that frequent this hotel since it's so cheap to stay here, with old European men. Definitely not a place you'd want to stay with your kids because you'd have some explaining to do. This is a good spot for young adults with a limited budget that want to be near a party beach or for some bachelors that are looking to have a good time. Other than that...it's not good enough or appropriate enough for decent people that want a nice vacation experience.

Really cheap hotel but it is not worth it. Go somewhere else. Rooms need heavy maintenance. Window nets were broken, water was dropping down on my head in bathroom, broken ellectric sockets, no hot water. A/C worked.

I've stayed at the Kaoba over 10 times. Always good bang for your buck! You get a clean room, hot water and a ceiling fan. For 5 bucks more you get AC. Out of all the times I've stayed there a couple of rooms have been in really bad condition. Management needs to keep a close eye on this! Some rooms do need a little extra attention.

We booked the garden cabana for August 2013. We were spending 2 weeks in the northern coast of DR and wanted to spend a few days in Cabarete. The hotel is located right in the center of Everything!!! We spend very little time in the room so it wasn't until the 2nd day that we noticed that our room didn't have a TV, but didn't matter b/c we didn't need it. The two most important elements - hot water and A/C - were perfect. it kept us super comfortable. The accommodations were modest but clean. Although we didn't use the very large and beautiful pool, it looked well kept and clean. Beach is literally across the street for daytime bathing and sunning. All the great restaurants are also just steps away. Parking for our car was provided at no cost. Hotel has an ok restaurant attached where you can get GREAT cafe-con-leche or regular coffee for less than one US dollar. Remember to buy dominican pesos at Caribe Tour whenever possible because all the store front exchange houses are a royal rip off.
For $35 a night, this place was amazing. BTW, bring your own toiletries.:o)

Made us pay before we had even seen the rooms, the other seven places we have stayed in the DR we payed when leaving. if we had not payed (ok stupid of us) we would have left after the first day. The hotel seems to be falling apart. I've traveled 13 different contries in Latin America and mostly I stay at budget accomodations. They have all been way better than this place and this isn't a cheap option. First day there was a bottle floating around in the pool until we picked it up. There's several dogs running around, the owner has saved them but is he running a dogs home or a hotel? The air condition did not work until we had pointed it out several times, just one sign that the hotel hasn't been renovated for years.

I stayed at hotel kaoba in january 2013,I booked queen room with kitchen which was at the back of the hotel as the queen rooms without kitchen are at the fron of the hotel and too close to the road
My room was clean as was the bathroom,no problem with water pressure or temperature ,id say it was a while since anyone used the kitchen section and i did not use it either.
pool looked clean but did not use as the beach is a few min walk from the hotel,I choose this hotel based on price and location and would stay again .
And yes there is a few dogs hanging around reception but you find this in most small hotels in dominican rep.

Room Tip: make sure your patio door locks
