The staff is wonderful but they cat make up for the run down and very tired facility that hasn't had a nickel invested in it in years. If you like really old and out of date, this is your place. Too bad to see what was once an ok place fall to near ruin.

Room Tip: Go for a top floor. You might get a good view.

I go back again and again. If you are looking for a large resort with multiple pools and many amenities this is not it.
We get a 2 bedroom. Has 2 baths. TV and DVD player in livingroom. Dining table and full kitchen. Air conditioning in both bdrms. Balcony with seating area. Higher elevations have view of ocean. No matter the weather, there is a breeze at night. The pool is large. It is what I would think we call a "boutique resort". The condos surround the pool for the most part.
The best is the staff. They are excellent. The maids clean each day. Restaurant, good food; the service supreme; just ask and any of them will go out of their way for you. They treat you and your children like family. Five-7 minute walk to surf sandy beach. I see families there; couples, singles, US, Canadian, European.....
Yes, it's older resort. It could use updating and maintenance but I go to DR for the cultural experience in another country. So,if you like me, you will like it. Local bus on highway to Susua, Puerta Plata one way; Cabarete and on to east the other way.

Room Tip: all quiet; top floor best view.

This hotel is located conveniently between Cabarete and Sasua, however without a car or other mode of transportation, there is no way to get anywhere. It is not a walkable distance and /or safe to walk. The actual hotel has a nice pool, the rooms are very outdated, they do have a kitchen and a nice balcony. Air conditioning does exist but usually just for the bedroom if at all. When it is very hot outside it is going to be an oven like heat inside the room. There is no glass on the windows even in the rooms that have an air conditioning unit. Otherwise, the cleaning staff seems to make an effort. Shortly, keep your expectations very low then you will may have a chance of being pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated, airconditioned room

This is definitely not a 5-star quality resort and I would have given the resort 2-stars if it wasn't for the great staff. There are many positives for staying here, but the place needs major updating. The room size is outstanding (5-stars). However, the room is in need of a major overhaul - seems as if the furniture is from the 90's and the shower needs major work. My room didn't have a dresser so we had to keep our clothes in our suitcases all week. There were other guests whose rooms had various missing furniture or kitchen items. The room has a safe, but you have to rent the lock from the resort $15/week. The resort also gives you a very good exchange rate.

The restaurant is nice, but there were times when they did not have the item on the menu or I was told it would take too long to cook. Also, I ordered the same item on different days and the item came out prepared differently each time. I didn't have a bad meal, except once (pizza).

The pool seemed as if it was under repair although it was it use. The stairs in the pool and on top of the wall separating the pool from the wading pool was missing top coat. The pool also had a lot of holes where it looked like someone was about to do patch work, but decided to stop. A real estate agent came through when we were there and said the owner is trying to sell the place. Which probably is a good thing, because it doesn't seem the current owner is taking care of the place.

The front desk person is useless and cannot be relied upon for accurate information about the beach area or any of the trips offered at the resort. He was more interested in trying to get us to use his taxi driver friend instead of the offered tours. He told several of us that things were happening at the beach area and then when we get there nothing was happening - even though the activity was listed on the information package the resort provided.

The resort has a little beach area you can to walk to (10-15 minutes). it's part of the public beach, but the resort put a hut with tables and some lounge chairs out there. During the off season no-one is there to man the place, so bring your own food & drink. Many of the lounge chairs were broke, but there were at least 6 good ones. There is a small beach restaurant a little walk along the beach area. Wear comfortable shoes if you walk to the resort's beach, much of the road is unpaved.

I did have a great vacation and the place was relaxing despite the many flaws. It was a great value.

Room Tip: $30 to catch a taxi from the airport to the resort. Guys pack light - .50 is the most you'll spend to clean something.

I stayed at the Coconut Palms. It was a little outdated but overall a decent stay. The hotel staff were friendly and likeable almost like family they went out of the way to ensure we had a great stay. We had a three bedroom/ two full bath condo decent size more than enough room for a group of four girls. There was only air conditioning in two of the bedrooms. One downside there were not many activities to participate in at the resort. We stayed for a week and I only saw two other people staying at resort. The restaurant was clean but I did see stray cats and dogs frequent the grounds. The hotel is close to the airport and many other beaches, clubs and attractions. That was a plus because the resort was dry and being on a girls trip we wanted to enjoy the town.
