“OyVey! FRESH BAGELS!”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

So...I've been living part time in cabarete for the better part of 7 years. There are soooooo many awesome restaurants in this town. However one of the things I've always said is that whoever figures out how to do fresh bagels will be carried around the north coast on the shoulders of the population and hailed as a conquering breakfast hero.

Claudia and Claire are these heroes. Having made an arrangement with the local bakery their bagels are baked fresh every day and are ONLY available at Alegria. I know this because I tried to bribe the bakery to give me a few on the sly and was rebuffed and soundly chastised for suggesting such a thing.

It's not just about the bagels tho, the food they make with the bagels is great! My favourite is the "we found nemo" which is lox and cream cheese on a toasted bagel. This is like crack to Jewish people. It may also have the same effect on non-Jews, I'm not sure.

Other awesome items include the pancakes, and the turkey sandwich.

The most important reason to come here however is Claudia and Claire. So attentive, so lovely, so funny, and so concerned that your time in their restaurant is a positive experience.

Come for the bagels stay for the Dutch girls.

“Perfect place to start the day”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

I recently stayed at Hotel Alegria and was extremely pleased with the restaurant. The ladies are wonderful people, who are willing to give you any info. you request or point in the right direction of someone who can. The food, coffee and fresh juices were a prefect way to start my day as well as the great conversation with Claudia and Claire. I highly recommend eating here!

“Pleasant surprise”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

Owner Claudia served up an excellent breakfast! The bagels are very, very good; the coffee excellent; and the eggs were done to perfection! Freshly made fruit juice rounded out the meal nicely. I tasted my husband's Dominican Breakfast, and it too was super tasty. This café is an excellent choice.

“Wonderful cafe - great owners, great food, great coffee”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

We wander down an ally and find a cute café called Alegria where 2 nice Dutch ladies introduce themselves as the owners. They bend over backward to give good service including making me an avocado salad that is not on the menu with a basil vinerette topped with pinenuts and a virgin pina colada that I top with a few pumpkin seeds that I have stashed in my purse for protein.

The espresso was delish and sweet enough that it did not need dairy or sugar.

It is worth the wonder off the main street!

“Bagel lovers celebrate”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

A friend had heard about a restaurant with REAL, fresh bagels and we found it today. Algeria cafe not only has fresh bagels, Montreal style, they also have smoked salmon, great tuna melts, as well as other bagel sandwiches. Their breakfast menu looks good too so will try that soon. It is open 8:00 a.m. Until 2:00 pm daily except closed Wednesdays. To find Alegria cafe turn by Janet's market and go LEFT by the Janet's parking lot......it is about 2 doors down the lane. The cafe is not huge but nicely shaded and cool, friendly owners from Holland, and really good food. Only open since fall 2013 so let's support them so they stay open.
