Coral Costa Caribe Resort & Spa
Ranked #3 of 12 Hotels in Juan Dolio

My husband and I went for a wedding of a couple friends. The bride & groom chose the resort. They also chose our flight - we flew into Punta Cana Airport (poor choice because it's a 3 hour transfer from airport to the resort, so if you go make sure to fly into Santo Domingo, which is only about a 1/2 hr away).

Service was excellent - no complaints there. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the bartenders at the swim-up bar. Nightly entertainment was good.

Clean rooms, common areas and restaurants - no complaints about cleanliness. However, several members of our group complained about mould in their rooms. They requested different rooms and were accommodated. Most of us had some kind of problem or other with our toilets - some overflowed and others just didn't flush properly (usually requiring several flushes). Signs in all the washrooms instructed guests not to flush any toilet paper whatsoever down the toilets, but to dispose of it in adjacent waste baskets.

We "upgraded" to a "superior" garden-view room. There wasn't anything superior about it, that's for sure. As for the garden-view, it would have been more accurately described as "parking-lot" view. Also, strangely, this resort is dissected by a public road with about 1/2 of the resort on one side and the remaining 1/2 or so on the other. For us, this meant crossing the road to get back to our room from the beach, pool, buffet, etc... Not really a big deal, except for the prostitutes and drug dealers hanging out on the road. They were always careful not to venture onto resort property, but had free rein of the road. The size of our room was decent, and we had a small balcony (overlooking the parking lot). The bed was small - size of a full/double bed. Plenty of storage cabinets, t.v., small couch, table and chairs. We had a good sized in-room safe (big enough for a laptop, plus our other valuables), but safe size varies from room to room. Our in-room air conditioner made the room way too cold and it was very noisy. We ended up shutting it off so we could sleep, which of course, meant a hot, humid room, so we really couldn't win there.

Restaurants - food was good, but not great. I particularly enjoyed the Tex-Mex Restaurant. It wasn't very busy when we went, so we didn't have to make reservations for the A la carte restaurants, which was nice. Buffet was okay - nothing stellar, but no huge complaints either. Greater overall variety and more fresh fruit selection would have been nice. Snack bar was always open, but mostly just had lettuce salad, (made from frozen) pizza, french fries and hot dogs or burgers.

I don't think there was a kid's club at the resort, so its definitely not a place I'd bring my children to. Best for couples or singles.

The beach was okay (clean, plenty of beach chairs, etc...) - it reminded me of Wasaga Beach (Ontario, Canada). If you're going to the Dominican Republic for its beaches, Punta Cana is the place to go, not this southern part of the island.

Wedding - the resort staff prepared a very nice set-up for a Caribbean beach wedding. It really was beautiful and tasteful. Not only did they set up an area for the actual ceremony, they put up a private bar, dinner table and outdoor dance floor for the wedding party and guests.

Overall, we had a good trip, with a good bunch of people, but I wouldn't go back to this particular resort. I would say it was average, but it is only classified as a 2 or 3 star resort, so what can you expect? If you're on a budget and can get yourself a good deal then you'll have a good vacation. I don't think it was worth what we paid for it ($2,600 with flight from Toronto).

We have jeust returned from a two week holiday at this hotel. Well what can I say: Most awful hotel we ever stopped in.
This was our third visit to the Dominican Republic but this was by far the worst hotel. I did not totally believe all the bad reviews I read but they are true. We will go back to the Dominican but never again to this hotel.
On arrival we were allocated a room which smelled badly of sewage. We were eventually given another room were we the toilet did not flush and we had to shower in with cold water. Once again we complaint on several occasions but the staff on the reception desk had such a bad attitute and were only interested in looking after native speakes. We were just ignored. We complaint again and again and eventually somebody under the name of 'Lewis' helped us and the plumber who was unable to fix the hot water supply and toilet informed the front desk that we needed a new room. We now moved into our third room. We did not have hot water but at least it was warm.
After a few days we had some bad tropical rain for two days solid and to our disappointment our room got flooded due to the big gaps in the patio doors. The maid put some towels in front of the doors and that was it, nothing else was done.
The food was average, the enterainment poor. The hotel needs pulling down and re-building. The only good thing was the beautiful beach. Would I go back: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

My friend owns a time-share in this hotel. When we arrived, the suites that she bought were not the ones that we received. Therefore, if you buy a time share in this hotel, they will show you a room that will not be the one you will get when u return.

The facilities are incredible wear down. The place is dirty and the quality of food is really not good. They say this hotel is 4 star, I will say is 2 star. I definitely will not stay here again.

When my company informed me that I would have to go for a couple of days on business to Santo Domingo I've decided to find a nearby hotel and fly my family over for the weekend since it was our son's birthday. I looked for hotels close to Santo Domingo and found this hotel - close to the city and even closer to the airport! But to be quite honest some bad reviews scared me. I said to myself "C'mon its only couple of days, it can't be that bad...after all its the Caribbean we are talking about!"
And the truth is that it wasn't that bad! Not bad at all I would say.... The hotel is O.K. and it's exactly what you pay for! It is a bit old and It does need some improvements but I must say it is clean and well kept. Our room was quite spacious and it was cleaned daily and always had fresh towels and clean bedding. The beach was great! Crystal clear water, comfortable lounges available for you all day! The pool does get crowded but hey, that why you have that amazing beach right? The entertainment was very good and so was the food. Drinks were amazing and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
So, if you are looking for a nice getaway to always worm DR and don't want to spend too much money - this is the hotel for you!

Let me cut to the chase- I planned what I thought would be a wonderful family escape vacation. Although the staff and hospitality of the employee was wonderful, the hotel environment and paractices were tramatizing. The resorts permits outright escort service for old men with young girl who engage in inappropiate behavior at almost all the common areas of the hotel. It was like watching a rated x movie all the time. My teenage daughters and myself were offended , disrespected an disappointed with are vacation. The practice of legalized prostitute was visable and accepted by staff members. Would not recommend to any family. In additional the resort needs to be upgraded and ammneities are scarce. Honestly not a nice decent environment.

First of all I must say that I was a bit worried after reading the negative reviews. I traveled with my husband and two kids (ages 7 & 13). For the amount that we paid we have few complaints. The staff at the resort were very pleasant. A few dollars tip will get you above and beyond service. The restaurants were not bad at all. I especially enjoyed "The Fogon" Dominican Food Restaurant. We kindly asked the staff if we could substitute items on the menu for others and they said absolutely. The dishes that were brought to us were absolutely delicious, the seafood salad buffet at the restaurant was delicious with a mix variety of calimari, shrimp, fish, mussels etc. All three restaurants were very clean. We arrived for dinner at 6:30 sharp and got seated right away. No waiting at all. We were given an oceanview room with balcony and two double beds. I must say the beds were on the hard side and the pillows were flat, but after being out in the hot sun when it was time for us to go to sleep we had no problem falling asleep. We did request extra towels since there were four of us in the room. We did not call the front desk we asked the cleaning lady directly. She would bring them right over every time. We had water pressure problems twice for a few minutes, but other than that no further complaints about the room. The pools were cleaned constantly by the staff. After 6pm they were closed for maintenance and in the morning when you first went down to the pool they were clean as can be. By the afternoon they were a bit dirtier with leaves, etc. The disco was great. We loved the music that was being played. The drinks were awesome. We visited the Casino a few times and it was great. The waiters will kindly ask you if you would like something to eat (nuts, sandwiches, etc.) or to drink when you are playing. My kids & husband got to play pool during the day at the sports bar which is open to children before a certain time, they played miniature golf, tennis, basketball, etc. We also rented jet skis at the beach. You can definately talk the prices down. Never pay what they first ask for, this goes for the merchants on the beach, and the tour representatives, etc. We managed to lower the prices on the Horse Back Riding which we did twice and the jet skis rental. If they approach you to buy something just say a "NO" and keep on doing what you were doing and they walk away. There was nightly entertainment by the "Chocolates" which performed various shows for the audience. They highly encourage the audience to participate in various games, dance contest, etc. The best show was on Friday night, they had the stage on the beach with dancers/games, a live band, and a bomb fire at the end. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel I suggest you stay elsewhere, but if you are not too picky and do not want to spend too much $$$ you will find that it is not a bad resort at all. With the experience that we had I would rate it 3 1/2 starts close to four. Thankfully we did not have any of the negative things that I had read in other reviews happen to us..... I would go back in the future.
