“buyer beware dont go its closed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2013

ok so lets get to the truth, the tropical Azul resort is closed. we purchased a timeshare from them in March. booked in September to attend there on December 3 to 10 th 2013. When we arrived from Canada on the 3rd of December we were greeted by a pad lock on the front gate. They should have told us it was closed in September when we booked our unit. It really sucked having to pay for a room at casa marina who thankfully had room. what a rip off they didn't have the respect to tell us it was closed. From talking to locals the gate has been locked since Late August so any postings after that date are just bull. Even a salesman the Irish guy from Victoria House told us it has been closed for 4 months. and oh ya tried to sell us a membership to Victoria house if we would give cash down, ya what evere.

Room Tip: stay away its just a scam again

Just spent a couple of days in Sosua and stayed at the Topacio Azul Resort again, another good time. The place is under new management and because of the old owners there were some glitches. But the team there was fantastic in dealing with any issues. The rooms are neat and clean, the grounds are pristine and the proximity to all the action is UN-BELIEVABLE! Booked my trip through DRTravelZone and check in was Easy Peasy! Tell you what, if your bringing the family then its a good time, but if your a single you will be blown away. Easy commute from the airport; once there you won't need a car because everything is in walking distance. Bottom line: Go, Go, Go!!

Based on price, you will get a lot more than what you are paying for. I always stay in cheap hotels, unless payed by the office. For my vacations I just select a cheap hotel as always. For my surprise, I had beutiful views, nice cleaning, nice service, and a beautiful place. I really liked my stay here. What is the thumb down? Well, the water was not always hot but warm, the rooms does not have wifi (just corridors and lobby), and they dont have room service (because the hotel is all-inclusive). Overall for me is a great hotel.

Room Tip: They views to the bay are the best and a must do for everyone.

Great hotel and staff and the sights are spectacular. Going back for the giant singles party in October 9th to the 15th. The new manager Ninoska is great, she really makes you feel like part of the family. The view is spectacular to say the least. AC worked great so over all a great trip. See you soon guys, L:

Room Tip: almost all the rooms are on the bay

We went in March thru RCI. Got there to find Victorian House had changed hands. They did not know we had a reservation. The lies that are told to people are criminal. The buffet was only good for vegetables and fruit. Horrible meat, bread, desserts, house wine only. Ask for a specialty drink they suddenly don't understand English. No game room, billiard room, the other Special restaurants were non-existent. When we complained they set the Italian restaurant up, but the food was brought over from the buffet of the day before. A horrible joke. There is no longer a diving school, no water sports, no access to the water from the resort. The local beach had rats and was packed. The supposedly all-inclusive resort rents out the lower priced rooms over the 3 day weekend to locals and boisterous groups from the US at lower prices. They take over the pool, which is the only facility available. The beggars on the local streets are legion. There are no upscale shops at all. Trashy all around. The Casino was not on grounds. It was under construction. The smell of glue and concrete dust made us ill. Washclothes were not to be found, towels few and far between. The towels at the pool were rags. We had a beautiful suite, but it was one of the few on site. There are hoards of rooms in dark hallways that no one had an explanation for, except that they were saving power. Do NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMTANCES be taken in by their "Vacation Club". They sell a 25 year membership with 50 weeks vacation. They start high and go down until you sign on the dotted line. It is a corrupt and shaky business situation as they only have a 10 year lease. We were given information about the business situation too late to save ourselves from being scammed. Please save yourselves from our fate.

Room Tip: Only the corner suite

This hotel used to be the Sosua Beach Resort, but they aparently needed to start over again. And they probably will need to do that again in the near future. First of all: the architect of this hotel likes stairs. Wherever you want to go, you need to walk stairs. Lots of stairs. The pools are small and when we got there a bit dirty: filled with pastic cups and stuff.
On arrival the booking system was out of order, as was the machine that generates the digital roomkeys. As a backup system for the latter problem, they had a pile of keys behind the reception. Unsorted. And although the hotel was quiet and the receptionist didn't have much work, it never came to her mind to sort them out.
The rooms as well as the beds are nice. There is no wifi availlable in the rooms.
But since this is an all-inclusive hotel, there is another aspect I need to take into consideration: the food. There is a word for it: dogfood. They managed to put the same limitted amound of dogfood on the table every breakfast and every dinner. So the bread didn't even qualify for the ducks by the end of the week.
On departure, they still hadn't fixed their booking system so they asked me to wait so they could sort things out. But since I had seen the receptionists picking their noses for the last three days, I didn't feel like waiting - especially since we were travelling with a baby. Then they decided it was all ok if we just payed 450 dollars, which I refused since I booked the hotel for 375. After I asked the receptionist tried to **** me, he refused to speak to me anymore, so we left.

The Resort itself is gorgeous, the standard room however could use some upgrading, the bathrooms need work and they need to invest in wash cloths. I only got them 2-3 days out of my 7 day stay, the lights kept going out in the bathroom as though the circuits were overloaded and the water in the tub wouldn't drain properly.
The staff receives plenty of English speaking people everyday for them not to speak English, it should be a requirement since the locals are not staying there everyday. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and the staff is very pleasant for the most part, they tend to you if you need anything except having visitors, seemed to be a double standard for the men to bring the local women to their rooms for overnight stay but as soon as my group of friends asked for one of the local guys to come to her room she was told that he had to pay $35 even though he was only going to be there a couple of hours. After we left we were told by another guest that all we had to do was him to the side gate and she could have just brought him in!
The ride from the airport is $25 and its only like 15 mins away, the resort should invest in a shuttle bus to and from the airport and I feel they will get the money invested in the transportation by the increase in guest. They also only have WiFi in the lobby and that too should be upgraded to reach the rooms since we have grown accustomed to keeping in contact with social networks and apps that require WiFi, it was an inconvenience to have to leave the room to go to the lobby to send out a text or to contact anyone while there.
The food could also use some upgrading, seems like they served the same thing over and over again, chicken and pork was on the menu more than I cared for. A little variety and some spices would go a long way.
The staff helped us to get around, Manni, Ramon, Franklin the photographer, Alexandria, Juana, Carmen the bartenders, Maria in the dinning room and others whose name escape me were all very helpful and spoke pretty decent English. It was only right to give them a nice tip at the end of our stay.
The locals are all friendly and if you ask for Jose Gonzales he can help you find out where to tour and get you in contact with a fabulous taxi driver that will take you around and wait for you to take all the pics you want and bring you back safely.
Like I said they upgraded the name but it still could use some work, the few things I mentioned would go a long way in me recommending this resort to anyone.
