“our best place in India”
Reviewed 13 September 2013

Stayed there in the end of Aug 13 for 1 week (with 2 kids). Jency and Allwyn are the best hosts you can imagine. Especially for our children it was a relaxed, friendly, warm and interesting week.
We had all our breakfast and dinner in the guest-house, because Jency is surely one of the best cooks in India!!! We had so many different dishes and all were fantastic. And Allwyn did organize all our trips so well (Backwaters, Shopping in Alleppey, 2 fishmarkets, temple with elephant, ayurveda treatments,...). We had cooking class with Jency in her kitchen...it was a pleasure, she knows all about kerala food, spices, coconut....
The beach is sensational, but be careful the drift is strong in August. Against the mosquitos Allwyn had a effective fire with coconutshells and inscensesticks. Perfect place for 1 week.
We were sad to leave the place, but we still remember Marari Dreamz as the most pleasant place of our 3 weeks trip.
Jency and Allwyn are the most pleasant hosts. It was a pleasure.

first time i was in allwyn-and-jency's place in winter - i was tremendously surprised. they are totally different from all other local people (like aliens, really) - no greed, openness, sincerety, really trying to do the best for their guests, whom they regard not like their clients but as alive people who need care and understanding. their place is made for comfortable rest, everything is planned, privacy and safety are provided. delicious fresh food to your (not local) taste is made every day. five minutes walking - the best beach in the village. one minute walking - authentic ayurvedic massage (which is rare in marari). if you want - guys will entertain you and take you to some beautiful places, if you don't - you'll be left alone in their little paradise, but the unseen motherly care of jency will still cover you as a cloud.
and by the way they've made a new villa - looking forward to see and try it!
see you soon
love, alina

Selected from trip advisor when staying at Bella home stay in Allepey

Had a fab time here. Arrived after lunch and this was no problem for Jensy she prepared lunch. The food is excellent especially the fish dishes. Alewyn organised a visit to the local fish market, be prepared for the 6 am start but worth it. Also went on an elephant ride, thought this was overpriced and poor value for money. You pay the elephant handlers so check price before going. The beach is beautiful and a short walk away.
Alewyn and Jency provide excellent service whilst staying with them. I only hope they can maintain this high level of enthusiasm they have.I would highly recommend here to friends, I wish I could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: If you want hot water inform owner when booking as not all bathrooms have hot water.

Hi Jo & Beckey..
Thank you for the feedback....
We are glad that you are satisfied well and regarding Elephant ride INR 500 is not that costly as compared to other locations in Kerala and the people who handles elephant provide food to Elephant.
As a whole i would like to appreciate you for spending time to write about us..
See you next time

Stayed there in Aug'13, this time we were on a budget and wanted to try a homestay to get a closer look at the Kerala culture. The rooms were basic and nice, being monsoons there was dampness all around in room and beds, but I guess it cant be avoided. Surroundings are good with hammocks all around in the garden. Dining table is laid in the verandah, which is a good idea for better seasons, but we had to fight it out with the mosquitoes. Bathrooms are open air and close to nature, picture perfect, but again water pressure was less in our room and be ready to be really close to nature :-)
Marari beach is a short walk away, wonderful virgin beach, absolutely worth staying in Marari and not in Alleppey.
Our hosts were friendly and served us great food as per our requirements, both veg and non-veg. They arrange for vehicles and tours as per your needs, but better to plan in advance, as we missed some things we wanted to see since we didnt inform in advance and being a sunday.
All in all, good value for money, basic but comfortable place to stay, and good hospitality by the hosts.

Room Tip: Only one room's bathroom has geyser, so if you need it, inform beforehand.

Thank you very much Preethi for the feedback. We really appreciate for taking time to write about us and we are glad that you enjoyed well.
As we are running an Eco friendly business we are forced to avoid some of the luxuries which is always good for our planet. As the heavy monsoons are just over we are still on the hangover and mosquitoes are a part of monsoons and we were not informed about the mosquitoes and i am really sorry that i couldn't ask you about it. Actually we had very effective solutions for mosquitoes from Ayurveda.
We never had got any feedback regarding the water pressure and we really appreciate your feedback as we can settle it down soon if there is something.
You were here for just two days and one day was gone for boat race in Alleppey .As our activity menu advises 6-7 days to be at Marari for enjoying the high end, i would ask you to be here for at least 4-5 days next time.
Thank you very much
Regards
Allwyn

Having initially planned to stay only one night it quickly became clear that we would be making a big mistake leaving so soon, so we extended our visit. Allwyn and Jensy were fabulous hosts and welcomed us into their home. The beach was beautiful and very close. The room we stayed in had an authentic Kerala feel to it, which added to the experience. Hammocks outside were ideal for relaxing in. There are lots of activities to keep you busy, we rode an elephant, visited early morning fish bartering and went to see a bird sanctuary. These were all organised by Allwyn at an extremely reasonable price. Jenny's food is the best we have had in India (fresh, great taste, leaving you wanting more!). Without doubt if you go to Marari this is the place to stay.

We have just come back from a few days away in Kerala and I wanted to say thank you to the brilliant hosts alewyn and Jency for a wonderful stay.

The Villa is clean and comfortable, with relaxing hammocks outside. The food Jency cooked was incredible. Seafood like I have never had before and I live near the coast with crab and lobster on tap!!
The beach is very close and we spent a very fun afternoon swimming (the current was ok), relaxing and playing ball games. We didn't have time to do the other activities offered, so I would recommend a longer stay to make full use of the local attractions and the wonderful food!!

A little stressed from the travels we only had one day to spend at Allwyns place but it made us recover perfectly and we would have loved to stay longer! The place is all handbuild, with nice colourfull rooms, the cutest outside bathroom and a beautiful garden with hammocks to relax in. Allwyn and his wife took care of us so well during our stay and also helped us organize a backwaters tour and train journey the next day. Beach is five minutes away by foot, clean and so Nice. Overall Allwyn's place is a perfect choice to calm down from the stresses of bigger cities and back packing life :)
