“Splendid retreat in the rainforest”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Our only misgiving is that our stay was far too brief.
The setting is beautiful & Errol is most welcoming and a real gent. Staying here was a total escape. The room was immaculate. Tea & coffee, snacks were in the sitting room. Breakfast was exquisite with the beautiful selection of baked goods & fresh fruit, and to dine in that setting was just gorgeous. Daintree Manor is pretty much self sufficient so we weren't at all perturbed when told of the drought in the area and to go easy on the long showers. We visited in October & the fan was more than sufficient to keep us cool. Hopefully we have the opportunity to visit again.

Arriving in the dark we were welcomed by Errol who was keen to ensure we felt comfortable from the outset of our stay. Our room was spacious, immaculate and spotlessly clean. Errol's breakfasts were a complete treat! His 'famous' tartlets did not disappoint and the accompanying fresh tropical fruits, scones and coffee were a perfect start to the day. All of this in the open air with spectacular views. When asked, Errol also offered us advice on tours/activities which was most welcome. Thank you so much Errol for making our trip to the Daintree so amazing!

I have been staying in Daintree several times and I believe this is the best property. The view is superb, the room well appointed, and the cleanliness is top notch.
The owner prepares an excellent breakfast with homemade scones, quiches, tropical fruit salad, and excellent coffee. He even made me dinner when I got stranded returning from a trip after restaurants had closed. I strongly recommend this location.

My husband and I stayed three nights here -- and both of us left wishing we could have stayed longer. Host Errol made us feel right at home, and we were urged to enjoy the amenities of the common lounge area and veranda, all beautifully appointed and fastidiously maintained.

Errol takes justifiable pride in his amazing breakfasts, featuring locally grown fruits (including some from his garden), light-as-air scones, and quiche-like tarts. He will also custom-make espresso, cappuccino, and macchiato drinks that rival those of commercial coffee houses in quality -- and exceed them in presentation (fine china and glassware). One evening we wanted to dine in with salad and prawns purchased at a supermarket, and he invited us to use the china and cutlery from the common room to make our meal elegant. And he did the clean-up as well! Amazing!

There is no air conditioning here, and the rooms, equipped with fans, can be stuffy. Our room (Number 1) had no ventilation other than the doorway. While the fan helped, it was usually cooler on the veranda. We kept the curtains wide open, aiding the air flow -- but had there been other guests, we might not have done so. (We were the only guests there for the length of our stay).

Still and all, this B&B ranks at the top of those I've experienced -- the setting is spectacular, the furnishings and amenities are divine and absolutely spotless, and the host is gracious and generous to a fault. (He pressed scones, papaya, and passionfruit on us even as we left.)

We had a charmed three days in Daintree, and cannot thank Errol enough!

Room Tip: The two larger rooms facing the Daintree river have better views than the double room (Number 1) tha...

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to write a review. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you also for mentioning the air conditioning etc, as this provides me with the opportunity to explain the situation North of the Daintree River to the readers.
Until recently there was a 12 year ban on the supply of grid energy to properties North of the Daintree. (The Rainforest) As this recently expired, residents and business owners sent a delegation to the Queensland government, with the backing of the power supply company, to request connection. I was excited to think I would be able to put air conditioning into the property, not only for the guests but for our own comfort. Unfortunately the request was declined. I then did some research to find a more practical solution. I came across some state of the art ceiling fans with advanced German technology. These are replacing all the current ceiling fans on Friday 6 Dec. The benefits of the new fans are as follows:
1. They are silent, even at high speed.
2. They have 6 settings, the highest using only 18W, about the same amount as standard ceiling fans on low so we no longer have to be concerned about energy consumption overnight being on solar.
3. They have remote controls, no need to get out of bed to change speed or turn off if you get cold.
4. They can operate in reverse if you want air circulation but do not want the air blowing directly on you.
I am sure that the rooms will be a lot more comfortable as a result of these new fans.

Then here are my personal tips for the readers on when to book which rooms. During the winter months, the double room with the 3rd person option has a nicer view and is larger so well worth the $10 additional charge per night. One can book it as a double and ignore the 3rd person addition option. In the summer however, (the wet season) the standard double room is better as it does not get the direct, hot afternoon sun. The south view can still be enjoyed by sitting on the verandah area in front of the guest lounge area where there is also a sun bed to relax on.

The highlight of our stay in the Daintree a colonial style house. Some real luxury, immaculate clean with luxurious high quality bedding, a spacious guest lounge and great value.

An incredible location with wonderful panoramic views over the tops of the trees. Birds and wildlife a plenty.

The best feature is Errol the owner and host. He is a delight and a real gem, a lovely person who takes great care over his guests.

Located just over the ferry across the Daintree, Daintree Manor is a perfect jumping off point for a trip further north to Cape Trib or Cooktown. It is not right on the beach but it is a great starting point from which to explore this unbelievable corner of Australia.

Daintree Manor is five stars for comfort, style, attention to detail, incredible views and a great breakfast.

Daintree Manor is a wonderful retreat in an amazing part of the word. Errol works extremely hard to ensure his guests want for nothing even getting up very early to make us his wonderful breakfast tarts on a day we had an early start. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this B&B .

We stayed at the Daintree Manor B&B for 2 nights at the end of July. From the moment you drive up the driveway, you know you are coming to something special. The Manor is positioned for the views, and the gardens, are absolutely beautiful. Errol welcomed us and showed us to our room and over the Manor. The upstairs is for guests, with 3 ensuite bedrooms, ( the rooms are beautifully presented and spotlessly clean, and serviced daily on your stay), with lounge and dining shared, and a large verandah all round the top guest area, it is just the most beautiful place to stay. We were very lucky as we had the whole manor to ourselves on our stay, so quiet and peaceful, just the sounds of the rainforest, and the little critters. Watch out at night, when you sit on the verandah with the main lights out and just the verandah lighting on, for the little micro bats, they are so cute,( sort of). We walked around the back garden with Errol, who showed us the start of his fruit garden and vegetable garden, some of the fruit we had on our breakfast platter next morning. The breakfast and the setting was simply beautiful, flowers and fruit from the garden and freshly baked scones, so light and yummy, and a savoury tartlet to end an absolutely divine breakfast. The breakfast was on the verandah overlooking the gardens, and is just a perfect setting. We had researched the area, but Errol was able to fine point the Daintree area for us, so we got to see the best value in our sightseeing and food on our excursions. The Manor is ideally located to all attractions. We would highly recommend The Daintree Manor B&B and would definitely stay again. Errol and the Manor were one of the highlights of our stay in the Daintree.
