“Beautiful Room - large!”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

You could dance in the room, it was so large. Internet connection was good. The pool needed some serious cleaning. There was a strange smell coming from the jungle/forrest behind the hotel that was naseating. The breakfast was okay. Good value for the money. We cut through the Sheraton every day to head down to the beach. Great restaraunt on the beach!!!! Good area to get away from everything. A small strip mall nearby with good restaurants. About a 30 minute trip into Ao Nang which we had thought was much closer.

The rooms are big with nice beds, for family with 2 kids one room is enough. Cleaning could be better but normally we just need to place to sleep, lot of activities the daytime. The breakfast was really... lets say bas as there were ants in all dishes and really limited selection. The beach is close via Sheraton resorts and we didn't have any problems access it, we even stayed and swam in their pool. There is pretty good Thai restaurants around the hotel but if you need good western food it's better to go Ao Nang. As a conclusion, it's a good budget hotel especially when family travelling with 2 kids.

the check inn is the perfect place to stay in klong muang if you are on a budget. the hotel is perfectly serviceable, with large rooms, comfortable beds, free wifi, a pool, etc. however, it is really a no-frills hotel. there are no toiletries in the bathroom - they put liquid soap and shampoo in the dispensers but we ended up using our own that we bought in bangkok. try to get any room that is not on the ground floor, as people will walk by your room if you're on the ground floor, and you won't have a comfortable little balcony where you can hang towels and other wet things. the food from the restaurant is so-so; the phad thai tasted like they used ketchup to make the sauce. but it's cheaper than any of the restaurants around, and nice to have it delivered to you by the pool. the food selection at breakfast leaves a bit to be desired, but the fact that there is a complimentary breakfast at this price is actually a pretty sweet deal. the manager and staff are super sweet and nice. i wouldn't necessarily ask them for any travel tips, as they weren't very helpful and were in fact totally wrong about times & prices for the ao nang princess (the ferry that gets you to/from koh phi phi and koh lanta). but that's not really their job. overall, for what i paid, i was satisfied with this hotel. it was a nice launchpad for our trips out to the 4 islands (poda, chicken, etc.).

Room Tip: Try to avoid getting a ground floor rooms as they do not have balconies (second and third floors do...

This property has excellent potential and with the right management and staff could really be a first class property
. The rooms are huge and well equipped with a large fridge, Microwave, water boiler , large TV, hifi system etc but is let down by poor housekeeping and bed linen becoming tired. The pool needs a good clean to bring back to being in good condition. The breakfasts were laid out buffet style and the advice would be to eat early whilst the food is still warm and before becoming sunburned. A little work and attention to detail is all the property needs. Treat it as an apartment instead of hotel and it becomes good value.

Room Tip: The upper balcony rooms have two double beds so would be ideal for families

Nice hotel, big swimming pool, good breakfast. 2double size beds, a bathtub and a shower. Small kitchen, laundry in 2 hours...

Staff doesn't seem to know much about activities, transportation... But a lot of "travel agencies" around. A little more expensive for restaurants and shops around than anywhere in thailand so far, but i guess it's the south...

Just don't expect many shops and restaurants around, it's too far away from the town itself. And if you arrive at the bus terminal, which is far from the town center, they charge you 1000 baths for the taxi, it was insane!!! (so understand: no shuttle from the hotel)

But for location, if you want to relax, almost the only one on the beach!!!

This place is one of the best value rooms we have ever stayed in, and we are frequent budget travelers.

We stayed 4 nights in jan 2012 and will most definitely be back. Something we noticed during our stay is how hard they are working to improve and add value, they obviously take note of what feedback they receive.

The positives:
* as noted the rooms are huge, cleaned daily and well appointed. The sheets and covers are soft, wifi works really well, air con is quiet, cable Telly, basic kitchen, nice towels supplied, fridge, balcony. There were no signs of bed bugs or creepy crawlies.
* the second day we arrived they opened their own breakfast service in their cafe and not the Indian joint. Their breakfast was way better with pastries, more food choices including soup and rice and filter coffee.
* they also opened the pool bar while we stayed here and it is pretty awesome. 90 baht cocktails which are ace, and a full drinks menu, plus snacks.
* the pool is great! Yeah it is a bit old, but we saw the. Cleaning it and there are two kiddie pools.
*the area is really interesting. Smattering of tourist shops and then local places to eat, including an issan place, a Muslim curry stand, grilled meat joint and so on. Feels like a small village.
* we found the staff so friendly and gorgeous, especially Nu, the receptionist and cha, the manager. I heard they changed management recently, so maybe that's why? They were so friendly to the kids.
-* there is a functional gym which I used daily. I did bring my own towel as the place needs a serious vacuum!
Negatives
* like much of Asia, there is a bit of a funky toilet smell that wafts in. I have smelled this even at 5 star joints. It's a plumbing issue. It does come in the air con unit a bit, it's true, but not really badly. You do get used to it, especially after about 5 mins.

* the place is a little rough around the edges. The shower curtains are spotted with mould, there are black marks on the walls and if you look around the place some things are a little old, but hey, it's Thailand and the rooms are $30AUD a night! What do people want? If you want total perfection, go to the sherAton and pay 4 times the price!
* on price, due to the Sheraton, prices in the village are inflated. However, there have been recent floods and that has apparently affected everything.
* no public transport to ao nang

Basically it's a total gem. A resort feel with rough edges for the price of a Vietnamese pho meal for
3 in Melbourne!

Some tips:
The esan food place about 200m down on the left (same side as Check inn) is great. The place called balini a few doors up is also terrific, more expensive (150-200 baht mains) but incredible.
There is a beach front restaurant (cut through Sheraton to get to beach quick, although the Main road is an interesting walk) next to Sheraton is pretty good. Not ace, though their alcoholic smoothies are very nice! A little pricey for what you get.

The massage place on the beach is better and cheaper than those on the road.

Big room would be nice if it was clean properly and daily. Sightings of a rat in the room. Can not use the AC because it brings the smell of feces. Non-english speaking non-smiling staff. Poor breakfast.
