“Chilled out existence right on the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012 via mobile

Granted, I came here for a wedding, however, this is one of those places where you feel you have no need to leave the resort. Occupying a quiet and calm piece of beach, this is a compact and un-pretentious property. You have a wonderful restaurant and bar right on the waterfront, small spa and bean bags on the sand from where you can read your book while looking at the magical karst rocks jutting out of the sea in front. The rooms are small but well appointed.

It's a peaceful and self-contained little oasis, with full (and free) wifi coverage throughout the whole property :-)

To sum up, this is a beautifully designed, secluded resort with impeccable service quality. We are expats living in a large Asian city, and for us this was wonderful place to come for some R&R. The place did have a few faults, but they were still minor from our point of view.

To be more specific, I can list the good and not so good qualities

First the good things

1. The setting is lovely. Hotel grounds had a lot of trees and a small stream that trickles down to the ocean. Its relatively small and located on the beach directly across from a group of limestone islands, which make for a gorgeous view even when the sky is a somewhat hazy or cloudy.

2. Tasteful design. The wooden buildings and Thai architectural motifs blend extremely well with the surroundings. Very nice pool area and an open air restaurant facing the ocean. The beach has hammcoks as well as comfy bean bags and end tables set up. We stayed in the most basic room, which wasn't huge or anything. But a high vaulted ceiling made it seem pretty spacious.

3. Great Service. Even by Thai standards the staff here were extremely helpful and polite. Western style breakfast was pretty standard and just OK but the restaurant had pretty authentic Thai food (at least by hotel standards). Would highly recommend hiring a longtail boat with the hotel to visit nearby Hong island. It will get you there in 15 minutes and you can practically have the place to yourself if you leave before 9am. If you want to explore the surrounding areas on a scooter you can book one with the front desk for 350 baht for 24 hours.

4. Peaceful and secluded location. Tubkaak and nearby Klong Muang are relatively less developed aside from this and other upscale resorts along the coast. Tubkaak beach is basically empty most of the day while Klong Muang seems to attract mostly local residents.

Side note: Whilst deciding on which hotel to book in Krabi, I noticed one less favorable review of this resort noted the long distance between the hotel and Ao Nang - as if this was a bad thing!? We went to via scooter to check it out, and although the 25 minute drive getting there was pleasant enough, Ao Nang proved to be just what I suspected - a dingy, sleazy, godawful tourist trap! I simply can't understand why anyone over the age of 21 would come a place that's full of stoned hippies, sunburned fatties, tacky T shirt stalls, rubbish bins, Burger Kings and a slew of Indian-owned restaurants serving crap "international" food?

Now that finished with that rant, I'll mention a few problems with Tubkaak resort.

1. For me, having a gym isn't really that necessary for a beach resort, but if you insist on having a good exercise facility you should be forewarned that this one is pretty meager and somewhat smelly (maybe its the lack of use).

2. The pool area is very nice looking and the hotel staff explained that the pool is fed by natural spring water. This sounds great, but unfortunately the water temperature is basically luke warm. This would be fine in some place with cooler weather, but when the temperature hovers over 30 degrees Celsius basically everyday it would be nice to actually cool down in the pool.

3. In-room wireless internet service was somewhat unreliable.

All this is a great place and we will definitely come back!

We have stayed at 3 different places inTHailand.this was the most expensive one, and I really don't know why. Rooms were way too small, and crammed around the pool. It took one family with 2 small children and you could just forget to read your book in peace and quiet. Rooms had very little natural light and little privacy.
The restaurant was ok, thai food was good, but international cuisine was very dissapointing. I think that they just don'tknow how to season this type of food, so either they don'tseason it at all or overdo it with wrong ingredience (my poach egg so swimming in vinegar, absolutely disgusting)
The beach was way too shallow, you had to walk 0,5 km before getting water over your waist, especially at the low tide.
As said, you get somuch more for the money elsewhere

Have stayed there twice now and had a fantastic time...
The staff are amazing, its in a great location, rooms are lovely...
Even when we went back there last year and they were having work done, not that it bothered us (nothing could spoil it) the staff were great giving us free spa treatments..
Would happierly go back every year..... LOVED IT...

My wife and I held our wedding reception here last year and were so amazed by the organisation by Sunny and the many other staff. The location is breath taking, staff so friendly and helpful. The rooms were stunning. We had many of our guests stay here also, which were all very impressed. Food from the restaurant was also great. We will be back next year without a doubt.

I find it difficult to know were to start to review my stay here as it was just everything we needed after a busy two weeks rushing around Thailand. We stayed for five nights and wished we had stayed for 10 or more.

The staff were so helpful and attentive always cleaning and caring nothing was too much trouble for them the Resident Manager Sunyadech Srimanee was brilliant taking time to talk to all the guests ensuring all was good with their stay.

Firstly a word of caution when I describe the food, if you have been travelling around Thailand before going to this hotel you could possibly and more than likely been used to paying very little for you evening meals, this hotel is not expensive and the food is excellent but a bit more than you would have been paying a set three course cost about 850 B each with a Thai meal for two at around 1300 B fantastic value. The restaurant is located right next to the beach by a pond full of fish that you can feed at breakfast times we ate on occasion right next to the beach and looked out to sea it was just heaven. The Breakfast was good with plenty of options for all tastes and the lunch snack menu was great we ate so much during our stay we only shared a sandwich at lunchtime.

Sun set is not to be missed cocktail in hand sitting on the beach in the bean bags is just so perfect, the sand is powder white and the sea so clear.

Our room was on the first floor and had a little balcony the outside shower and bath were fun and novel overall the room was great.

The pool area was lovely great setting and very clean. The garden were beautiful and the whole place was just magical, when you stood in the sea and looked back you couldn’t see the hotel it totally disappeared into the surrounding just amazing.

Would I go back like a shot and I never go back to places as I always like to move on but for this hotel I will make an exception.

Summary

Hotel great
Staff great
Food great
Stay perfect

only a small number of rooms so not crowded at all very intimate

Room Tip: we had a first floor deluxe room worth it you can get a good view of the pool or a more secluded opt...

It was all the little things that made this hotel perfect. As it was our honeymoon, our outdoor tub was filled with flowers on arrival - it was lovely. The little touches in this hotel make it special - the incense in the rooms, candles being lit in the bathroom upon returning after dinner, the room being made up a couple of times a day, the aloe vera cold towels, the soft sheets, the beach bag with towels and fans.

We ate at the restaurants most nights and the food is very nice - you have to try the Pad Thai. It's very reasonably priced and the food is lovely - we have spent more money in less time in Phuket and the quality is nowhere near as nice as the Tubkaak.

The sunsets are magical and coincide with happy hour, which is great! There are plenty of seats by the pool and beanbags on the beach, which by the way, are sooooo comfy. It’s convenient that everything is charged to the room (including taxis booked through the hotel) but you can loose track of how much you are spending – but you don’t mind as you don’t want to leave when you get here. We have one more day here and don’t want to leave.

The staff are so so friendly and there are so many staff for the size of this resort. We have been in Phuket for a week and nothing compares to The Tubkaak - we miss it so much and want to return.

A must stay for those who are looking to unwind and relax.

Room Tip: We looked at both the upstairs and downstairs room and decided to stick with our orignal downstairs...
