Great relaxing stay!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Oct 2012
My fiancée and I stayed at the Tubkaak for 10 days and loved the relaxing time we had. The hotel is well situated amongst the forest with excellent views of the sea and a private beach. It is situated a way away from the nightlife but you should not book this hotel if that is what you want. If calm relaxation is what you want this is the place. ( although there is a shuttle to and from Ao Nanag)

The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. They gave us a quick tour of the hotel before seeing us to your room. It is a boutique hotel so this does not take long but is great for finding out things rather than reading the hotel book. The beach is fantastic to walk along and the food by Chef Kitty is top class but more expensive than in town (this is expected in all hotels). The entire staff from house keeping to the restaurant were excellent and so friendly. During our stay we were welcomed by the senior staff Sunni and Warapetcharat which was great and were told of there plans to extend the hotel.

We stayed in the deluxe room over looking the swimming pool which was very nice. The outside bathroom and shower were great and the room was well decorated. Small things always make a holiday and we were given free spa treatments and discount off the on-site shop purchases on arrival, which came in handy, as well the free wifi throughout the hotel even on the beach!

We will stay again when in Krabi and look forward to seeing the new bar area on their facebook site. Thanks for a great stay!

if you are planning trip to Krabi and want to stay away from busy Ao Nang beach area, i highly recommended The Tubkaak Boutique resort, i visited the hotel in my business trip last Aug 12, the hotel is situated on Nongtalay beach, in naturally tree surounding the resort and romantic sunset beach, the hotel is located about 40-50 mintues away from Ao Nang beach, please make sure that you love to stay away from entertainment area, if yes, this nature resort is the best place for you and of course for Honeymooner and for the nature lovers, you may book deluxe room around the swimming pool, you may request room on upstair (more privacy and nicer view than room on ground floor), room decorated in comtemporary modern thai style, sunset dinner set up on the hotel's beach with the stunning view of varouis nearby island is the most romantic time, don't miss it

I have booked this hotel due to its very positive ratings here in Tripadvisor; but to sum up the impressions from a recent stay I believe their attitude has changed considerably and I found them not on par with other Thai hotels on that level; next to a lack of attention to details you can feel that they use every possibility to charge extra:

Food: the offered special on one of the evenings in their restaurant was a local lobster for THB 1.800; I found the price very high (45 EUR) but asked whether the lobster had at least a decent size. Even though this was confirmed I ended up with a 1 lb miniature lobster which clearly left me wanting for more; in the consequence from this and a similar incident the evening before a routine then became the question for a decently sized dessert; they asked again for a premium over the normal dessert price. You then get both sides (!) of a mango as well as an icecream scoop-sized ball of sticky rice, which is my favourite Thai dessert. The dessert was charged at THB 280 (6.50 EUR) which is again completely out of proportion.

Transportation: They will not call a local taxi but insist on offering their internal transport. Had to organize the return trip to the airport myself.

Handling of problems: I locked myself out in the open air high-walled bathroom with no cloths available due to a malfunctioning door which locked itself; there was no gesture of regret or excuse by the management that a guest would be left in such an akward position for about half an hour.

To complete my frustrating impressions the taxi back to the airport was held by the bellboy until the minibar was checked. They do not care whether you miss the plane, it leaves you looking like a thief - what is worse - and is about items of neglectible value (only soft drinks in there) This is clearly a first timer for me.

Last but not least I can understand that there is no pre-payment reimbursement for an early check-out (due to 3 days constant rainfall) but the reasonable question for a voucher against a future booking was instantly denied. I doubt that I would have come back anyways.

All the above I would expect at a two or three star hotel with no reputation to loose/chances on returning guests. But after what I have read here in Tripadvisor and what has motivated myself to book the hotel I am more than surprised about that behavioural pattern. Something must have changed recently.

We chose this hotel for the first week of our honeymoon based on a few recommendations and the reviews on here. Unfortunately the weather was not great during our stay however we did expect this being 'rainy season'. We were torn between the deluxe balcony room and the seaview rooms, eventually deciding on the deluxe balcony and I'm glad we did. The sea view rooms are set quite a way back with trees in front so some with a partial seaview, plus they are quite near to the restaurant which can be intruding at times. Our room was overlooking the pool area and had a relaxing day bed on the balcony. The room itself had everything we needed and the outside bathroom was a nice touch. I have to compliment the house cleaning staff as they were very attentive and cleaned the room twice per day. The restaurant area was good and we ate on the beach a couple of evenings. The food is fairly pricey so I would suggest walking along the beach and trying the 'Sunset Reataurant' open all day, it's a third of the price and delicious food. The hotel also runs the shuttle bus into Anong Beach 3 times a week so also recommend for some good bars and restaurants.

Unfortunately we have a few negatives...

We were sold on this hotel as a honeymoon and couples resort believing it to be adults only but it is not! There were a couple of young children staying and 1 of which they chose to put in the room right next door despite other rooms being empty. We wouldn't have minded had it not been a disobedient child that banged walls and slammed doors open very morning and night. We did complain and Sunny wa brilliant, trying to do all he could to make our stay enjoyable.

The second is that when we stayed there was no bar, it was being build during our stay and the noise from drilling and hammering went on all day. Having a massage with a drilling in the background is not so relaxing.

Albeit the above, it's hard to find a sunset like this, sipping a cocktail and watching the sun go down, very romantic!

What makes this hotel is the staff, location and of course Sunny!! :)

It is in a very nice beach with not too many tourist since there are few hotels nearby. The service is excellent always helping and smilling, though their English is not very good. The rooms are nice and very comfortable. The food is excellent with a wide menu; the breakfast is fantastic. The gym facilities are good as well as the pool. The spa is terrific, don't miss to take a massage. It is quite expensive if you compare it with Bangkok (was more expensive that the Sukothai, in Bangkok, a leading hotel of the world), though it seems is a fashionable area.

The resort is located about 30 minutes from the airport and we were able to easily get a taxi from there. We were made to feel right at home as soon as our taxi stopped in the driveway. From the warm welcome, the quick and efficient check in, to the short but sweet tour of the property, we knew we had made a good choice.
We had a Deluxe room and while it was smaller than I had expected, it was still more than sufficient for our needs. Well appointed with comfortable beds and seating, a spacious wardrobe and the oh so wonderful open air bathing area. It was the little things that made us love the room - like the ample amount of toiletries, the coffee maker, the beautiful balcony overlooking the pool.
They are expanding their restaurant and had construction work going on but we were given a room well away from the restaurant and we never had a problem with the noise although we spent the entire day there.
We enjoyed the food at the Arundina. We ate there twice at lunch and once at dinner time. The menu was varied, authentic and frankly quite good. We are used to late dinners and therefore we were the only diners at around 10 PM, but the live band continued to play just for the two of us and the staff was not negligent in its service at all. We stuck to the thai dishes and did not regret our decision.
The staff at the reception helped us get a car on rent and they were most helpful with suggestions for tours etc, even offering us weather information so we don't spoil our plans.
Unfortunately, we had to cut short our trip and return home for an emergency. The staff was very understanding and they charged us very nominally for cancelling our reservations. They helped us plan the few hours we had left there so we could make the most of our time.
All in all, my husband and I have promised ourselves that we are coming back to Krabi and definitely staying at the Tubkaak again. It was absolutely wonderful an experience.

Room tip: Since they are expanding their restaurant, I would suggest take rooms as far away from it as possible. Superior rooms don't seem to have a lot of privacy as they face the pool and are on the ground floor. Deluxe rooms are the best value for money.
