“Beautiful & Relaxing....felt like home for 2 weeks!!”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

We stayed at the Tubkaak in May and by far it was the best hotel we have ever stayed in!!

Although the location is a bit remote and you can't really walk anywhere, to compensate they have a complementary shuttle bus three times a week (which is fabulous) but the advantage of it being so remote is the calmness the resort offers and the spectacular views over the private beach and the Hong Islands more than makes up for it!!

The staff are so helpful and friendly you would think that they all own the hotel not just work there. They would remember your name and staff would greet you with with a huge smile and traditional bow every morning without fail. A particular mention should go to Sonny who was absolutely amazing throughout our stay and could not have been more pleasant, helpful or made us feel more welcome!!

The rooms and furnishings were of top quality, we were very fortunate to get upgraded during our stay to a beach villa and it was out of this world! The bed was so huge and comfy, there was a huge plasma tv, dvd player and music player with ipod dock. There was a huge outdoor bathtub which was filled with petals when we arrived which was a lovely touch!

The restaurant was also fabulous....the food was out of this world!! It is a little pricey by Thai standards but the price tag is worth it just for the setting right on the beach and to be serenaded every night by the thai couple just made each night so romantic. Each table was private too and you could even have a table set up on the beach if you wished which the staff went to so much trouble to set up with lanterns and all-sorts!! The breakfasts at the hotel were out of this world! There was so much choice for everyone and there was a chef every morning making pancakes, waffles and eggs at your request. If I make any recommendation you must try the banana roti....AMAZING!!

I will have no hesitation to recommend the Tubkaak to anyone who wants a truly luxurious and relaxing holiday. The service and atmosphere that they provide is second to none. We are looking forward to returning when we next visit Thailand.

I must also add that the construction work was taking place whilst we were staying and it did not affect the enjoyment of our holiday one bit!

Room Tip: We spent our first few nights in a deluxe room which was fabulous and well worth the extra we then g...

We stayed initially for 3 nights and just couldn't revisit booking a 4th night! Lovely quiet place out in the sticks. Very well ran with wonderful staff and managers! It's a relatively small resort but that makes it so much better! It's very well maintained throughout which is nice to see! View from the beach is one of a kind! We loved our room which was a deluxe, which is the minimum you should have as you get a very cool outdoor bathroom and balcony! The only thing I would mention, which didn't make our stay any less amazing, is the prices of food and drink. There are no shops anywhere nearby so you don't have a choice but to pay the top price for everything in the hotel. Also the 17% service charge is a little annoying as its on everything you have plus a 7% tax fee. At the same time your staying in the best hotel on the island, so it's not cheap! Loved every minute of this wonderful place! Did not want to leave!

We stayed here for 6 nights at the beginning of June 2013.
This place exudes calm, serenity and relaxation.
This was despite some general maintenance being done on a couple of bungalows close by, which we barely noticed.
The quality of the service provided by Sunny and his staff is probably the best we have experienced anywhere in the world and it was always provided with gentleness and a smiling face.
I was unfortunately taken ill with dehydration whilst here. Within a little over an hour of nearly passing out (after having been given rehydrating fluids, cold flannels, general pampering from a number of staff, an impromptu massage from the chef and a taxi being arranged), I was sat in front of a knowledgeable doctor 20 minutes from the resort.
As well as the massage, the chef provided exquisite food throughout our stay, both the Thai dishes and the more Western options (e.g. Bruschetta, Caesar salad) were excellent. I would disagree with some reviews that it's expensive - maybe from a Thai perspective, but definitely reasonable from a European perspective. However, that excludes wine which is a Thai problem, not a Tubkaak one - you can't get much under £50/bottle anywhere in a restaurant.
From here we went onto Bangkok where we visited the award winning Nahm restaurant - in our opinion, the food was better at the Tubkaak.
The views from the bar and beach are also stunning.
One cautionary note; the resort is very rural and isolated, there's absolutely nothing outside the front door. The resort will arrange a taxi, but this tends to be expensive compared to ordinary cab fares generally.
You don't really need cash here. Everything including trips can go on your bill for settling on check out.
The hotel will arrange excursions with all pick ups from resort. There are some good ones, however, we went on the Krabi Town Night Market trip. If you like markets okay, but it wasn't particularly big and it was very difficult to occupy three hours until the minivan back.
In summary, we loved it here and would highly recommend it

Room Tip: We took an upstairs deluxe room. Would recommend

We stayed at the Tubkaak for 5 nights last week and had an excellent time. The resort is definitely out there - kind of remote - but we liked that it was away from it all. It's on a very picturesque beach and the resort grounds are beautiful. It's kept immaculately clean.

The hotel arranged our airport pick up which was there waiting for us when we arrived at the airport - the ride to the resort was kind of scary though! The driver definitely made us nervous, passing 3 or more cars at a time on twisty roads.

The beach is beautiful. The tides are very extreme - that didn't bother us. There's kayaks at the hotel that you can take out on the water.

We spent a lot of time relaxing at the pool also - very refreshing and quiet. There's some noise from the construction for the expansion of the hotel, but it really didn't bother us.

We stayed in a sea view room and loved it! Everything was very clean and comfortable. The room was very spacious and the view was pretty cool. Our only gripe about the room was that both the door to the patio and the main door to the room didn't really close the whole way. There was definitely air coming in from the front door and the patio door had open space at the top. This wasn't really a huge deal - it wasn't unsafe, but we were concerned about mosquitoes coming in. Also, because warm air from the outside was constantly able to come in the room didn't ever get as cool as we're used to. All things considered, when you're at a beach front resort in Thailand, it's probably going to be warmer than home so no big deal for us.

The resort restaurant was very good - we enjoyed all our meals there. It's practically right on the beach and the view at sunset is really beautiful. Breakfast was nice in that there was a lot of variety and everything was tasty. We enjoyed all our meals for lunch and dinner - it is more expensive than other meals we had in Thailand, but that's the case at all hotels so wasn't very surprising. They have happy hour each night from 5:30 - 6:30: buy one get one drinks. We definitely took advantage of that pretty much every night. It was really relaxing to have cocktails and watch the sunset. They also have a couple of musicians there almost every night - they were great! Very chill atmosphere music.

The service at the restaurant and in the resort as a whole was very helpful and hospitable. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The managers approached us a couple times and asked about how we liked the room and how our stay was going. The service is one of the things that makes this resort stand out.

They will help you to arrange day trips if you're interested - we'd already scheduled a couple ourselves so did not use their service providers,

Though this location was out of the way, I thought it was perfect. It was only sort of inconvenient at one point when we needed an ATM (not one at the hotel) and we had to take a cab into the nearby town just to get cash out. We got a cab again to go into Ao Nang for dinner and shopping one night. It's really not a bad drive, and walking around Ao Nang for the evening (although we had fun) made me glad we stayed at a place farther out!

THANK YOU so much to the staff at the Tubkaak for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. Do yourself a favor and book this hotel!

We stayed here at the end of our little Thailand jaunt as a treat to ourselves after some "flash packing" around the Krabi region, and what a treat it was!

The room was excellent, the pool relaxing and the beach was great with huge soft cushions to lounge on and watch the sun set with a cocktail.

The manager and staff where brilliant and really made us feel welcome.

If you are looking for a bit of Thai luxury - look no further than here.

Staying at the Tubkaak made us feel very special. The staff were very attentive yet observant of your privacy and the resort is amazing.

The location is a taxi ride from the hotel (who will supply a driver and air conditioned car for a small fee 1,200 TBH at time of writing) and on a quiet stretch of beach shared with neighbouring resorts (who you won't see unless you go for a walk along the beach).

There is everything you need on site, food, bar, spa, beach, pool - even a gift shop with presents for back home, sunscreen, hats, clothes, snacks and drinks. The staff are very helpful with suggesting excursions should you be interested and the manager Sunny seems to be a really nice guy.

We had an amazingly relaxing break in Krabi, all thanks to the team at Tubkaak!!

Room Tip: Seafront villas worth it if you can afford it - set in front of the other rooms you get the best sit...

My husband and I spent 4D3N at Tubkaak and had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. There are many positive reviews of this resort, so we would just like to add/emphasize a some points:

Pros
- Beautiful, clean beach with spectacular, spectacular sunsets. The restaurant tables come right up to the waters edge at high tide and it is wonderful to enjoy the scenery, sound of the waves and sea breeze, with a good book in hand. We didn't have any problems with the crabs, and found those that we saw to be cute and fascinating. Look out for the little holes and balls of sand they make on the beach.
- Outdoor rain shower head with excellent water pressure and responsive temperature control. Lovely to hear the birds chirping while you are showering!
- Great and attentive staff who speak good English. Mr Sunyadech the resident manager is very friendly man who is always ready with a smile.
- Restaurant food is very delicious and nicely presented. The banana pancakes, waffles, thai curries are highly recommended, my husband had several plates of the banana pancakes - it really is that good.
- Use of the kayak is FOC, some resorts along the beach charge.

Cons
- The restaurant food is expensive by Thai standards, but is comparable with the other hotel restaurants along the beach (and is in some cases, a little bit cheaper)
- I found the toiletries to be average compared to some of the spa resorts that we've stayed before, but this is a personal preference.
- We had a few power outages during our stay, which was perhaps due to the monsoon, but the hotel generators kept the critical things going. Air conditioning however was lost during these periods, so the rooms could get a bit warm.
- The rooms are generally small, but decent for a couple.
- There is some construction noise, but I personally found it to be not too intrusive. It was quite peaceful by the beach.
- The spa is very basic, but the quality of the massages is good (although again, expensive by Thai standards).

Tips
- If you like lounging outside your room, get the 2nd floor rooms as the balcony is larger than the outdoor space for the ground units. There is also more privacy in the 2nd floor rooms
- There are shuttles to Ao Nang where you can get cheaper massages and food, though this has to be weighed against the 200baht per head shuttle fare to/from the town.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Tubkaak and would consider visiting again, when their new villas are ready.
