“Thail hospitality at it's best”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

After many hesitations because of an un clear web site .. We arrived for 6 nights to this peaceful property - big surprise !!
We were 2 couples , we stayed at the Royal Villa and our friends at the Pool villa - both accommodations were superb .
The Royal Vila is located near the sea - breath taking view , a large pool and a pampering setting in and out .
Our Butler Tania was devoted and efficient , the resort is big so you need the buggy service - but there was no problem with it - Tania was always at alert although she served 3 other villas at the same time .
The Spa by Espa - was a real treat , I spent every afternoon there .between the steam room , to the relaxing treatments room - this is heaven ..
The food & beverage Needs an up grade .. The 3 restaurants - Thai , Italian and Sea food suppose to be enough but - if you prefer to stay in every night - I would seek for a wider food menu,- same goes for the beverage - but we managed with a lot of fried rice and noodles ( very tasty )
Carlos Tarrero the Director of operations is the real spirit behind this place .. He listens to each guest and try's to fulfill every request , always with a smile and very efficient.
The gym is fully equip with the best of the best Techno Gym .
The only down side is the lack of sun beds on the beach - the sea is there but only for the view - for us it was perfect !!

We recently stayed here for 3 nights - and what a way to treat yourself! We got upgraded to a Reserve Pool Villa ( private pool attached to the villa) on checking in. Straight away we got sent for resort cocktails at the Sunset Bar, which had a gorgeous view of the sun setting over the Hong Islands. The room itself, had its massive beds, had a lovely verandah (from which we got a bit of a sea view); an outdoor AND and indoor tub, along with a separate showering area and the outdoor pool - made us feel very, very spoilt!

We took the half day complimentary trip to Hong Island which was excellent. Its a peaceful little bay, and the hotel staff provided us with towels, water and snorkelling equipment as we left the boat.

Apart from that, our butler was quite on the ball with getting us bookings and make recommendations - excellent service. Across all staff - there was no one without a smile or not going out of their way to help.

The food was great as well! Italian was superb as was the Thai menu. Being vegetarian, their vege-friendly menu was a pleasure and not too unkind on the purse strings. Having said that, it will get expensive if you intend to order bottles of wine with every meal. We generally had a cocktail before dinner and then no alcohol with dinner. That helped keep prices in check. You have to be smart about that!

I strongly recommend this hotel if you're planning to treat yourself!

I recently stayed here for 6 nights. Whilst the rooms were spectacular, and the butler service was exceptional (my butler Belle was fantastic), this hotel is missing the extra little bits that would make this a 'must return' hotel. If you are looking for a beach holiday, this is not the hotel to stay at - I think the pictures are a bit misleading. The layout is definetly not suitable for those with disability/walking difficulties, and whilst the food was nice, it wasn't 5 star. Finally, i think it is a shame they put the fitness centre underneath the entrance as you are basically looking at a brick wall. Given the view from the hotel, I think they should have though about having the fitness centre facing that. Beautiful hotel but some key elements missing.

My key to a great holiday is mixing things up a little bit. As a young family, we have to work on a tight budget when travelling, but we still enjoy the finer things in life (who doesn't!). Which is why on our holidays, one day we could be staying at a $20 guesthouse, and the next day, we'll be in an ocean view, plunge pool villa at the Ritz. Variety is the spice of life they say!

Phulay Bay was the ultimate splurge! It has been on our dream list of resorts to visit for a very long time now, and after having spending a night there, I can comfortably say it is one of the most luxurious places on earth! From the moment you arrive, you are treated like a VIP.
The whole resort is a masterpiece, of pure luxe and calm. The staff are of a standard that I have never come across before, they are consummate professionals when it comes to hospitality and fulfilling all your requests.

We were lucky enough to have been given an upgrade to a Reserve Pool Villa with Sea View. It was the pinnacle of all our hotel stays and I don't know how any other place can ever live up to it!
352 square metres, inside and out of architectural splendour! Everything is in excess, the bed (the size of two king sized beds) is of giant proportions, two bathtubs (one inside & one out), his and hers scallop shaped sinks, gift boxed amenities, a bidet, a shower room, an outdoor area with a place to cool your champagne and our own, personal plunge pool that was on an island in our yard, surrounded by a moat that was a tributary of the waterfall trickling down the hill.

And then there was our personal butler. There at your beck and call for whenever you had a request. We were lucky enough to have Wanda, a gorgeous lady with an infectious smile. Our son absolutely loved her. She informed us of the complimentary sunset cocktails, and drove us there in her golf buggy. We met people from all around the world, and enjoyed chatting to like minded travellers who enjoy Thailand as much as we do.

The main infinity pool overlooking the Hong Islands is paradise on earth. The pictures tell no lies, it truly is as beautiful as you think it is.

I went back and forth reading negative and positive reviews, losing sleep, trying to make the right decision as to whether it was worth spending the big bucks here.We were not disappointed, and I am so glad we splurged. This is what we work day in and day out for. The chance to treat ourselves and feel like royalty for the day.

So here's my advice for those of you who are also on a budget (i.e: non-yacht sailing billionaires) that are also deliberating over whether it's worth it to spend your hard earned money here or not.

-Rent a car. It's cheap, the roads are good, and you'll be able to leave the resort if you need cheaper dining options.
- Eating at the resort can be costly. Breakfast is included, and is a great spread, but dinner can cost up to $200AUD a couple. We chose to take our car and drive to the little village of Tubkaak about 5 minutes up the road, and had a brilliant Thai meal, including beers & cocktails for about $30AUD for three of us.
-If you're celebrating a special occasion, let them know. It was my birthday at the time and I was treated to a delicious Mango mousse cake, a bottle of shiraz and a bubble bath complete with rose petals and candles.
- It's true. There's no sandy white beach attached to the resort! Shock Horror!! You can either walk 10 minutes along the seaside to tubkaak beach where it's very pleasant, or catch the complimentary long boat in the morning to the glorious beach in the Hong Islands. Personally, I prefer the pool. It is sensational, and the views are to die for. Who needs a beach anyway?
-Alcohol can get very pricey, but there's nothing to stop you bringing your own. Staff helped us carry our carton of Chang to our room, which we kept cool in the bar fridge. We all laughed about it, yes…we're tight-pocketed..we know!! Haha!

So, I highly recommend this place. Don't be scared, take the plunge. Krabi is paradise and you will feel like royalty staying here. Life is for living, live it!!

Room Tip: Reserve pool villa with sea views, highly recommended. What a treat!!

Phulay Bay, Ritz Carlton should not be missed when visiting Krabi. This 5* hotel is a perfect oasis on a private beach. From the moment you arrive the grounds will amaze you. High walls, painted a deep purple transports you to a calm place. The rooms are beautiful and with only 54 villas/pavillions yet on many acres you feel as you are on your own private island. The 4 restaurants are small, and service is exceptional. What also stands out is the staff. They are trained by the best and by the time you leave you feel like you now have an extended Thai family. The management is present, and are not in their offices but walking around the resort interacting with guests to make sure they are happy. Shout out to Ana Henriques, General Manager and Carlos Tarrero, Dir of Operations and of course our private Butler JB, who took such loving care of us.

Room Tip: All villa and pavilions are spacious and comfortable. If you can afford it go for a Beach Villa or a...

I'm not sure where the negative reviewers on here have stayed , but it's obviously not here!
The resort is absolutely stunning, yes we were upgraded to a villa and this was truly stunning but we looked at the Pavilion rooms and they are beautiful, the ocean ones having stunning well ocean views!
Service was outstanding, the Butler service was good ,to be honest we didn't utilise her much but am sure if you did they would be even more efficient. The grounds were outstanding , beautifully kept and maintained and the infinity pool overlooking the Islands was just the perfect romantic setting reminiscent of the Maldives.
Only negative was the food was not great , Thai food was poorly executed, the Italian was poor and all restaurants were extortionate in price (apart from breakfast which was included which incidentally was excellent) and because the resort is so remote ,taxi's to nearby restaurants can cost up to £30! I can highly recommend the Catfish restaurant tho!

Room Tip: If you can afford it have a Villa with pool .Otherwise I would choose Ocean Pavilion over Reserve fo...

We have stayed for a long weekend at Phulay Bay Ritz Carlton and enjoyed every single minute. We are travelling a lot for business and pleasure and always stay in top hotels, but Phulay Bay is truly a class of its own. It consists of not more than 50 villas, but provides the infrastructure of a large resort (huge pool, 3 different restaurants, various bars, SPA and gym, etc.). At the time of our stay there were about 50-60 other guests. Every place was wonderful and absolutely calm.
Staff is great and very helpful. Each guest has a dedicated butler that takes care of any request. Our butler JB was absolutely amazing. She and all other staff went the extra mile to make our stay as perfect as possible.

The villas are very well equiped, beds are great and huge (2 meters wide and 5 (!!!) meters long), in- and outdoors showers and bath tubs as well as a huge veranda with garden overlooking the sea completed the nice experience.

Food quality at the restaurants was always very high. We have also booked a private BBQ at the beach which was very tasty, nicely decorated and absolutely romantic.

Other guests have complained on tripadvisor about a nearby mile. We did see the ships ankering there, from a few places at the beach, but did not really felt disturbed by it. Another small drawback is the very limited beach access which is only available at high tide. We were initially not aware of that, but managed to use the beach during afternoon high tide. In that respect the hotel could ensure advance information to set the expectations.
