Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Ranked #1 of 12 Hotels in Nong Thale

Reviewed 17 June 2010

My partner and I had recently gone to the Ritz Carlton reserve in Krabi for a two nights weekend getaway. As what the previous visitors has commented abt the resort, its exotic, nice landscaping, beautiful sea view, thai+moroccan designed villa. We had truly enjoy our private & quality time over there and hopefully some of the tips and comments are helpful:

+ point

1.the view by the pool is breathtaking, you can laze around by the sundeck for the whole afternoon just to enjoy the quiet time and the view.
2.pool attendants are friendly and attentive, bottle of ice cold mineral water and cold towel will be given to you right away once you park yourself down there. And a refreshing complimentary coconut will be given to you too.
3.Ice lemon grass tea is awesome! thick and refreshing
4.we were upgraded to the sea facing royal pool villa, the villa is huge!! you might get lost in the room or play hide and seek in the bathroom. The pool and your bed is facing directly to the sea. breathtaking!
5.the huge sunken bathe tub with sea view is really romantic.
6.the villa itself is very well hidden, you get lots of privacy.
7.the pool is deep and long and swimmable!! and remember to enjoy the jacuzzi too!
8.the resort entrance is very dramatic, the thai temple alike pavilion which seated in the middle of still water is interesting, and surrounded by 2000 plus candles...isnt it dramatic and cooooooool...a must go place at night. * but somehow after a while with the new age background music which makes the whole place eerie. but still cool
9.the bar lounge is must go chill out place in the evening around 6pm. The sun will set down right in front of you at your comfort of day bed chair. Very romantic and very cozy with sea breeze.
10.I must say the quality of food in ritz reserve is the best we have ever tried among the other 5 stars resorts. Both western seafood grill and thai food is absolutely yummilicious!!! Top quality!
11.The bread is served warm and fresh, accompanied by the baked garlic and mashed olive in olive oil. Very appetizing and duper delicious.
12.Mango with home made pancake is a must to order during breakfast!!
13. The mango with kaffir lime jam superb!!! beautifully created by the chef and it tastes unique and fresh!
14, A big thank you to our hardworking butler Ken, the pretty and friendly Session from the restaurant and of course the fun loving pool attendance Pow, Chan and Karen! U guys are the best!

- point

As both of us are from top service line management and had a few yrs of hotel experiences. Pardon us if things start to get a bit picky if u are talking abt Ritz standard and this price u are paying for.

1.be careful when you reserve your villa and rooms if you like lots of privacy cos not all room comes had full sea view. and not all villas have full privacy cos some villas are besides the bridges and roads..everyone can see you in your pool and balcony.
2.Quite disappointed with the turn down amenities, only a small book mark stand is given. *unsure whether it can be used as a book mark. Unlike the other villa we stayed they gave sweet treat and tea in the evening which changes daily too
3.No welcome fruits are given in the room
4.toiletry in the bathroom is very normal if compared to other 5-6 star resorts, expect a little bit more from Ritz reserve. The best we had from other resorts are like His and Hers amenities incl shower gel shampoo and lotion, body scrub, face scrub, mask, refreshing mist, sun tanning lotion, lip balm. *yes all from the same villa in Bali! I guess its not too much to ask from a villa which cost you $US1000++ per night.
4.1 the lotion is not smooth, it is very difficult to spread it evenly on your body. It just become dry and rough.
5. Insect repellent should be offered to guest who dined outdoor.
6.tripped and fell down at Lae lay seafood grill restaurant with bruises on the knee. Its a bad fall but did not injured badly like spraining the ankle. There are two steps from the restaurant to the outdoor dining place, as the lighting at the door way was too dark and the two steps are of the same dark colour. Your vision at night would see the two steps as one, pls be extra careful, esp the elderly. *met the GM the next day but she did not seem to know or care what happened to me or maybe she is the only one in the hotel who is unaware of the accident.????
7.it gets very dark outside the villa, the butler who shows you the way has to bring a torch light to lead your way. Not much night lighting system at night
8.toilet light in villa 31 connection did not work properly during the stay, it turned on and off by itself every 3 minutes. Its gets irritated when the light is off when u are using the toilet half way. ANd its gets even more frustrated when you are sleeping even the toilet door is closed. Had informed the engineer twice and prob still did not fix.
9. The reception of the satellite tv channel is poor. Most of the channels are fuzzy. Informed the hotel and the screen is still unclear.
10, we are welcomed by the thai traditional snack-myan kum which you have to wrap all the thai ingredients in a leave with the special sauce. It is a special and nice gesture but we guess it is too tasty already that it has already first tasted by the ants. *even the whole plate is all wrapped up.

We hope the above tips and comments are helpful to those who is interested in Ritz Reserve Krabi

THank you

cheers

I do not have enough adjectives to describe this hotel. Indeed the very word hotel is not enough, it is beyond everything you can imagine a hotel to be.

The best way to summerise our stay here was that my wife was so emotional at the thought of leaving she was crying. This place was soooooo special that it had made her feel like a child again that didnt want to leave their new best friend or part with that special toy.

As other reviewers have said, you know you are somewhere that is like no other place you have stayed when you arrive at the pavillion. Welcomed by hotel management in the most impressive pavilion you can imagine, stunning architecure lit by thousands of candles.

No concern you have is to small for any of the staff. From the gardeners (and there is an army of them ensuring this place is immaculate) stop bow and say sawaydee kaa until you have passed them. To the restaurant, pool and bar staff who would stand by our 4 month old daughter whilst we grabbed a few minutes in the pool. Should she wake they would come and tell us.

Special praise MUST go to Ken our butler and Umm who looked after us. Our 4 year old son Boris literally could not get enough of him and to this day endlessly talks about this time and asks when we are going back. This is all the more remarkable to everyone who knows that Boris doesnt instantly trust like this. Ken and Umm may all your days be filled with smiles, you are a beyond a credit to the hotel

Estelita in her flowing white dresses has pulled off something special, I dont know if we will ever get this feeling again about somewhere new. New and yet so seemless in its operation that you would never know they were not a family run affair. They combinme the intimacy of the family with the impeccable.

The villas are thoughtfully and tastefully done without being over the top. The OVERSIZE beds are wonderful and make you feel like a child in a giants land! The villas are very much as well kitted out as your very very very special London or Manhattan home. But with one added feature...the "oh my god.....those views!"

Every morning was a delight ...Silvia, Session and others made the morning experience a treat. remember we went with a 4 year oldf and a baby of 4 months - how often do you hear parents say mornings are a treat!!!

I think the best way to show how much we loved this place is that we have booked again for Feb 2011 and we CANNOT WAIT to return

From the minute you get into the van to the property, you know something is different. The arrival pavilion creates a unique arrival experience that cannot be compared with any other property. No front desks, just an amazing journey across steps in the midst of water to meet your butler.

The place is a Ritz Carlton, but then it isn't. You wont see the lion logo anywhere. There is one unmistakable characteristic present, and that is the service. Butler Ken was amazing and the unique aspect is that you have the same butler for the length of your stay.

*Yoga mats for the workout you should have done before you got here? No problem.
*Extra wifi network in the room? Here with smiles.
*Baby elephant to meet you at the beach today (because you'll check out and miss it tomorrow)? Bring the peanuts.
*Scan important documents so you don't miss the deal? Done before you are back before you are back at your villa.
*Ordering off menu - no questions asked.
*Need a ride back to the villa from breakfast? Your butler shows up right on time without having to call him.

The service is formal yet casual, it is after all, Thailand. In the end there are no compromises to your service or your experiences. You can ask for just about anything (within reason) and you never have to worry. There is a will, and they find a way.

The scenery is amazing, the rooms are unique and the service is top notch.
Worth it!

To describe the Phulay Bay Ritz Carlton Reserve as a hotel or "boutique resort", is simply understating what this place truly is... an amazing luxury experience that redefines personal service, hospitality, and comfort.
From the moment you are greeted at the reception area by the General Manager Ms. Estilita Sebeto, you are made to feel like you are the most important person on the planet, and this luxury retreat was made especially for YOU! From the ground up, Estilita has personally supervised the building of this wonderful facility, and she cares for it like her child, and a very proud mother she should be!
She has created and managed a world class retreat that caters to your every whim, and no comfort or personal service detail has been overlooked!!
My wife and I spent 3 nights in the Reserve Villa, and we were treated like Royalty during our entire stay. Our wonderful butler, Ken, anticipated our every need, and was always available to sort out any questions or special requests we may have had. Ken was the epitome of service, and he along with the rest of the fantastic staff we met throughout our stay were friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about all aspects of the facility! I could go on and on about the service, but suffice it to say... it was the best service I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, period!
Our villa was impeccably designed, crafted, and supplied with every amenity one could reasonably wish for. The beauty and attention to detail that went into the interior design was appreciated, and enjoyed!
My wife and I took advantage of the superb Spa facilities, which were relaxing, tranquil, and again, staffed by caring and personable staff, eager to make our stay and experience as pleasant as possible! No time limit was set for our relaxation, and we simply spent an afternoon indulging in the beautiful appointments that were provided!
The restaurants were first class, with a very nice selection of foods to fit any taste. And if you did't find what you want... ask! The resorts Chef, Ron, was always available to see to your needs and make sure you were completely satisfied with your dining experience. We followed some of his best recommendations, and we were not disappointed!
One other note I'd like to mention about the dining and drinks.. unlike other "Resorts", the food and drink prices at the Ritz Carlton were quite reasonable, and you never felt like you were being taken for every pence for a bottle of water or snack, quite the opposite.
The price for staying at the Ritz Carlton Phulay Bay is not cheap, nor is it outlandish for what you get. I would honestly say, that in all my travels throughout the world, this wonderful facility that Ms. Sebeto has put together is an outstanding value for the money!
If you are reading this article, and seriously considering a stay, I not only recommend, but encourage you to take advantage of the world class service and facilities that have come together at Ritz Carlton Phulay Bay. You have found what you are looking for... forget the rest of your search! Make this experience a priority.

I have stayed at several properties through out Thailand - this relatively new property, the first of the Reserve in the group is truly exceptional. From the first moment you step foot into the property its almost a magical experience till you check out. You arrive at a drive way, are escorted through an immense floating pond into a vast reception area , your senses are immediately swept into a relaxation mode. General Manger Ms. Estelita Sebeto was on hand to welcome us and introduce us to the property. She runs an amazing property with discreet, impeccable service.
The surroundings are immaculate, you feel you're the only one in this property. Our Butler Ing, was on hand at every moment to anticipate our every whim and need. I just had to mention once my preference for Green tea after dinner and every night after we found a pot of tea after dinner in our villa.
We were upgrade to a Royal Villa and what a sumptuous villa it was !! A superb pool, out door jacuzzi and bath area, separate dressing areas and wash rooms - the space was huge !
Service at the pool and restaurants was first rate, the staff possessed an immense faculty for remembering guests needs and preferences.
Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
